Former SCCA driver here. I’ve driven a Roush Capri mid 80s Trans Am car and can confirm that these Group 5s (or GTX is what we called them back then) feel about right. Really tight diffs with understeer on entry and sudden power oversteer on exit. Recommend running soft RARB and soft rear shocks. As the Roush boys told me: “Try not to f*ck up”.
Thanks for reviewing these Mike. I completely agree that this is easily one of the best mod packs out there. The DRM team have absolutely captured (what I would imagine to be) the raw, visceral experience of driving these cars. I think it's the sounds that impress me the most - all of the turbo , gear shift, gearbox whines, downshift exhaust barks, just add to the experience and each car not only has it's own physics but very distinct audible characteristics as well.
Hey Mike really entertaining video once again. Just bought the pack yesterday. I loved the older version but the update is really nice. It is great to wrestle a group 5 car around the track instead of the 'tame' and newer cars.
Thanks for bringing us this historic content. Am a sucker for vintage racing and how hard they had it back then. I mean, the thought of a 800hp on a 1ton platform with era tires and suspension would qualify as a death sentence today.
So excited to see that this pack has been updated now! I just got back into AC in the past few months and I was disappointed to find that the mod had become outdated, as I so thoroughly enjoyed it years ago. Can't wait to hop back in to these beasts!
Great video Mike - I'm just about to buy the new DRM pack as the original is an old favourite from a few years back and I didn't realise there was a new version available, so thanks.
Funny, just last week-end I was playing with the Group 5 cars in PC2, and was amazed how much better that game now feels on a DD wheel with custom FFB. Maybe feature something in PC2 again, Mike? After all, you were the one that introduced that game to me via your channel many, many years ago. 😊
Thank you for this video! I wasn't aware of this incredible vintage car pack and completely forgot of the existence of Group 5 cars! That's exactly what I was looking for after 1999 BTCC Car Pack! Purchased it today, absolutely worth in my opinion. Cars are brutal, I'll need to tweak FFB and the CRP pedals to improve the feeling (oversteer fest on corner exit, as you mentioned!)
Did they fix the exhaust timing from the original release? I emailed them a few years back about that. You'd be tearing down the straight at some place like Barcelona with a flame licking out the exhaust stack. The combustion velocity would not allow for that. The other thing that really bugged me was the lack of braking on the 935DP. It felt like it had no brakes for at least three laps. I worked on just about every model of Porsche up to and including the 930 Turbo. I find it hard to believe the 935...despite having never worked on that model, would have such bad brakes.
Hate to nitpick, but the Escorts you compared are different generations. The DRM car was a Mk II while the Escort RS1600 you compared it to is a Mk I, so they wouldn't look alike even in their road car variants. Otherwise, good video. Also, thanks for featuring 1967 Zolder. I wasn't aware a mod for it existed on AC and I can't wait to drive it, which is something you'll never hear me say about modern Zolder.
@@oktc68 Isn't this the same MK1 featured in the bestest of all racing games ever: Project Gotham Racing 3? O maybe it was 4, I can't recall. Ok, so maybe not the best but definitely the most fun. Not that I miss racing in an Xbox 360 in the least, although the Microsoft steering wheel was ahead of its time.
Latest Pure really has regressed the look of AC now. Regards these cars they were utter hot garbage handling wise before this update but they seem to of made them drive a bit more like a car now...

Proper cars, so much fun and rewarding to drive. So refreshing after a glut of GT3.
Originally, this was the mod for rfactor 1, and one of the greatest. It was free back then.
I really enjoy your videos man You talk about the history of group 5 You talk about the experience the value and you make many interesting notes

All the Group 5 cars also available in RaceRoom if anyone is in that ecosystem.

Been putting off getting this mod for a loooong time but i think you have just convinced me to pull the trigger. Great vid as always dude!!! 👍

Fantastic mod, had it about a year and love it. Need to download the update now
Yes please! These are very challenging cars to master. Still, super fun!
Love the Group 5 cars

Loved the looks of the Mk i
@@oktc68 I agree. Lovely looking car. The back end of the Mk II looks a bit mundane in my opinion.

Love the vintage racing..thx!!
Have fun with it!
Oh, these cars are a lot of fun!
Zolder used to be such a nice race track, without the shitty tight chicanes
Yay, I like a bit of racing history while watching the cars go round ❤
I already have v1.31, so do I need to repurchase the mod, or are updates included somehow?
This is exactly the sort of thing LFM for AC needs.
Looks totally real...totally and literally!
Could be me, but the handling seemed a little easier with v1.31 compared to this final version 1.32
There is also a version for Automobilista 2 thanks to Thunderflash mods
My uncle has 3 of those bmw motorsport ati1 steering wheels, which you can see in the e21 320, but doesn't want to give me one for my simrig 😄
still the best ac1 mod imho
you've been costing me money lol
