I discovered JJ Cale when I was fourteen, and immdiately fell in love. I bought his fabulous album 5, and from there traced my way back through his catalog. Since then every new record caused exitement and the promise of a fine summer. That sound was so... ear candy. And virtually every song told a story i could relate to. Truely unique! The guy himself was a mystery to me. There were no concerts in my town (Amsterdam), no interiews in the media or other public appearences (we're talkin about the pre-TH-cam era). I'd have loved to hug him and thank him for all he's given to us.
Thank you Christine , I know you are a good guitar player. And I know that you are definitely a part of JJ cale's sound and became even better because of you.
... "stay around" Christine. You are the "sensitive kind" and that good old "okie''s music is at your hands now. May that "cajun moon" shine above us all... I love you both. From Athens Greece - Mike ...
My brother exposed me to JJ Cale, and I'm still a great fan. "Shades" was the first album I heard. On the back of an earlier LP, I was struck with the photo of the cutest babe I had ever seen and I wondered, "She's gorgeous.Who's she? Is she in the band?" It was years later I discovered Christine Lakeland's story with JJ and in the band. All I can say is - "JJ was a really lucky guy!!"
For all of JJ Cale's fans I wish to thank you for all you did for him keeping him alive as long as he did.. I am sure without your effort we would have lost him years earlier. It is very fortunate we still have his records and videos to really see what a fantastic songwriter and musician he was. I can't stop watching" his masterpiece" over and over again. Thanks again for all your work.
Thank you Christine, I heard cales music ,way back in the late 70s on an fm channel radio while milking cows in my father's barn ,western Canada 🇨🇦. After midnight. Well it was after midnight at that time and I can't ever forget it . Made milking cows well worth it
Thank you Christine and I hope the whole JJ Cale world will thank you. I believe you are the reason we got as much music out of him as we did. I could see his heart warm when you smiled at him. Thank you great lady!
In the early 70's, I worked the door at the "Nine of Cups" in Tulsa. It was one of a couple musician hangouts / gathering spots. John would come in, spend time networking with other musicians, set in with friends and try out new material. He introduced Eric to me along with a few others. Both John and Eric were two of the nicest guys I ever met from the music industry. John was absolutely the king of laidback. Christine, thank you for putting this latest collection of music together. I really love it.
I have all JJ's albums on CD- except Closer - (which I am going to locate soon) - I play JJ every night at supper - my kids have been groomed on his music - it's everlasting
I discovered JJ Cale only this year and I was born/raised in OK, listening to Leon Russell in the early 70s. I so enjoy JJ's music that I've bought several CDs in the last 4-5 months. I really liked the documentary here on YT! Thank you for putting out the "Stay Around" CD. My favorite. You were a lovely couple Christine.
i bought their number 5 album at a lyon thrift store in the 80s. i had never heard of jj cale. When I came home and listened to it, I knew that I had just found an artist who was going to be with me forever.
Thank you Christine for "giving out as much Cale as you can give us" ! As soon as I heard Lights Down Low, I loved it....not because I thought I ought too, simply 'cos I loved it....my favourite recipe continues !
A big box full of JJ Cale albums I collected over the years since nearly 1970 and some weeks ago I also purchased "Stay Around" ... so good of you Christine, that you made this album with reserved songs of John - I like it so much !!! Christine, please go on to tell us about your man and music-companion! Thank you for all that!
Thank you so much Christine for giving us such a precious piece of heritage from JJ... Sometimes, by hard times, I listen to JJ and musicians mates, and I feel happy we have had such a great Artist on this earth, he and his music, his style helped a lot when I was down, God bless you, and JJ for all he gave to us... Of course ´stay around’ ii on the shelf...
{{{sigh}}} I am so glad I happened onto this, thank you Christine. Growing up a Tulsan meant having Leon & John Cale around us everywhere. I can't wait to hear the "new" stuff!
It was a wonderful surprise that I happened across the video "Stay Around" and learned that there is a new J.J. Cale album. Thank you, Christine Lakeland Cale. God bless you. ❤
J. J. Cale was truly a brilliant and very talented man; he was able to create a unique method of living by always placing his need for personal freedom before all else. John truly set an example of how to play the life game with passion and elegance. Although he was 15 years older than myself, we were both able to grow up in the best time imaginable: the best music, the best time to be single and interact with the opposite sex; back when we traveled, we had the freedom and opportunity to see this sacred realm without any restrictions. Although I discovered his music after he died, each day I listen to his words and vividly remember the days of my youth. Freedom from the prison many humans choose to live in, is a choice. The freedom I feel from listening to his music will forever keep a smile on my face, and reinforce my own desire to always feel the beauty of nature, and in the wildness of the winged gods that share my life. All of them dance each day to the music of J.J. Care, and we will be forever thankful for his intellect, and his amazing musical creations. John, you were a brother to many of us, by simply being yourself, and for that, we celebrate you.
Christine Lakeland Cale, your background harmony vocals on so many Cale albums are the sweetest, purest, most sensual I've ever heard....divine. Thank you for it. I savour them!
Bought the album out of the blue in a still existing record shop, on CD. Saw John Melbourne, Australia around 1976. One of life’s privileges. Thanks Christine for keeping the Flame. 🎼
I’ve been a fan of JJ’s music since Troubadour and all but 2 of his albums. I bought Stay Around not knowing what to expect. It is tremendous and clearly fits with his other albums. As well as being great musically, recording quality is exceptional. If there are more of this quality, I hope they are also released.
Fascinating interview with Ms. Lakeland! JJ Cale was exactly the persona he presented to the public, and he is my favorite musician! Thank you for giving us a further glimpse into who JJ Cale was, and how you interacted with him. Well done!
Talking about J.J.'s wanting to be anonymous: When he came to play in my town in the 70's, he ambled up on stage and started softly tuning a guitar. We had no idea who he was, thought he was a roadie. Until he came up to the mike and opened his mouth! :)
I second I heard crazy mama and after midnite I was hooked like 50 years now. So smooth the appidomy of cool the breeze. And you young lady you are too. In the studio live devil in disguise you couldn't keep from smiling and looking at him. Reminds of my wife
Got the new cd the day after it was released & it definitely had that typical JJ Cale sound that so many of us love. I have every album [cd] that he's ever made & say w/out hesitation: JJ Cale was simply THE best! *Hope ya'll find some more relics on the studio tapes; it is such a treat to hear a new JJ song; thanks for making the music available.
Your reviews are always important for me, dear Christine ... for me as a fan from JJ Cale since beginning 70th and you too (as member of his band and also as solo-singer with your Chr. Lakeland-albums) it is wonderful to hear your memories! ...yes..."Stay Around" ! Handwave from guy in Germany ;o))
It was great to see the Christine Lakeland Cale! I was at the concert in Knoxville, TN at Ella Gurus when Christine was wearing the hat given to her by Stevie Ray Vaughan, priceless. Second time in Knoxville at the Bijou Theater, and third and unfortunately the last in Asheville, NC at "Be Here Now". I have been hoping that she will someday write a book.
Thanks Christine for this. I missed this CD when it came out but you can bet I WILL be tracking it down to add to my already large JJ Cale collection. I did not know about his Harmony guitar until today. Just had never thought to look it up. Then by chance I started watching on TH-cam the video recorded at Leon Russell's studio and when JJ talked about his old Harmony guitar, I was blown away. What a cool guitar! I stopped the video and immediately started searching online for more info. 'Naturally' came out when I was in high school and I wore that 8-track out! "Magnolia" is my favorite Cale song, and now I know how he got his unique sound! "Naturally' is such a strong album all the way through. There is no filler.
Dommage,je vous ai rater de peu à Paris (1994) Vous pensiez revenir 3 ans après!!! J'ai cru en 2004 aussi,et non... Je vous ai attendu jusqu'en 2013 !!! R.i.p
Thank you Christine and Mike for this great new album. I'm currently caring for an ill loved one & this music brought peace, good cheer, rhythm & soul back into my life for a while today as only the the one & only JJ Cale could. Just what the doctor ordered. Bless You
I truly miss him and didn't ever get to meet him. At least I have his music. What a team. I know you miss him. A day doesn't go by without me listening to him.
Hi Christine I am in bits! Love J Js music for years. If you’ve found unheard recordings please please put it out on TH-cam . Hope you are well, Happy New Year. 2020. Regards Bob Gilhooley Art . England UK.
Christine: What the world REALLY wants is a excellently produced album of JJ's best LIVE performances. For example - edit and maybe enhance Call Me The Breeze from Cains Ballroom and make it great, edit and enhance Cocaine from Cains Ballroom and make it great. Edit and enhance After Midnight from the 1979 performance at Paradise Studios with Leon Russell. PLEASE!!!!! That's what we want to buy.

Same here. I allways asked myself "why didnt you go to a concert of him?" But there were almost no concerts in europe with JJ. :o( Greets from Hamburg
It’s so me, one second I thought I was readind my own comment!
My 3 idols were & still are JJ, leonard cohen & bob dylan NUFF SAID & i am an old Liverpudlian.

I discovered the blues through JJ Cale. And to this day, he is still my favorite blues man. With Clapton. Thank you Christin.

Christine Cale
Thank you for sharing this beautiful tale of joy from your life with J. J. CALE
His music will stay with humanity forever.
Just like Mozart´s and Beethoven´s.
I found him in 71? To this day Magnolia is one of if not the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard. I was a JJ Fan! Rip JJ!

If it wasn't for JJ Cale I wouldn't play the guitar and that is basically what keeps me alive these days. Thanks man.
Hopefully there will be more unknown songs/albums coming up to honour this musical legend
