    I live on Oahu. Love the video. This goes to show HNL/Daniel K. Inouye Int. Airport needs a complete overhaul. It’s nice that HAL got a completely brand new terminal but how about some love for the entire entire airport.

    One thing I cant stand is that whine. I missed the power and the sounds of some of the older turbofand and Turbojet engines. like from the 727 or first gen 737. Even though they are no where near the power of the GE90 series, the sound and roar of those engines is what a turbofan engine should sound like!!

    • @sla31
      @sla31  2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Well, as Zeevil mentioned, the ad revenues I get from everyone watching go a long way to help pay for everything you see. That said, I still spend a lot of money, more than I make, to take all of these flights. I do not work for any of the airlines, so I don't have flight benefits. And despite what others comment, and you mentioned here, I'm not independently wealthy haha. Everything you see on my channel I take by myself, on my free time, on my own dime. I also don't travel for my job. So, I'm not taking these flights for work and just filming them as I go. In other words, the company I work for isn't paying for all of these flights. This channel has basically become my hobby, as I spend most of my disposable income on flights solely to film them for the channel. I run this channel on a strict budget so I don't bankrupt myself. It'd be easy of me to spend myself into credit card debt taking all kinds of amazing flights, but that'd be irresponsible haha. If money was no object, there'd be many many more cool and unique flights on here. In the end, I do everything on here by myself, for fun, and to be able to share it with everyone else. I'm definitely not getting rich off the ads and every cent that I make from them goes back into new flights.

    When you arrive at Hawaii do you have to go straight to Covid testing protocols whatever or once you leave the airside terminal. I’m thinking of doing a day trip to HNL

    • @sla31
      @sla31  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most airlines offer a “pre-clearance” option at your departure airport. Somewhere near your departure gate they’ll have a customer service center set up where airline employees will verify your information/vaccine status and you’ll be given a wristband that allows you to bypass all of the Covid stuff when you land. If you don’t get “pre-clearance” then yes, you have to do it right as you land in Hawaii.
      That all said, Hawaii is dropping all of that very soon. I think March 25th is the last day any of that matters. After that it’s just like old times.

    Love the attention to the cabin and seat amenities. I am assuming that is a later model B-777? The only experience I have had on one is a screen on the backseat. Is that first-class or business class?

    • @sla31
      @sla31  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Technically it's an international business class product. As United doesn't offer a true international "first class" product like Emirates or Qatar. But, domestically, United sells this as first class.

    There's no denying that you were able to get a very sweet view of the engine and wing on this flight (which was great/arguably ideal for this vid), but that seat didn't seem to me to be ideal for what is the best part of any flight, IMO...looking out the window. Honestly, I would rather save some money and get a better/more comfortable viewing seat back in "steerage" (ha ha).

    • @sla31

    • @sla31
      @sla31  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 2012 Untied livery. Which happens to be this livery haha. The 50/50 Untied/Continental livery that is still around today... I think it looked bad when it was introduced, was lazy, and wasted a good opportunity to re-brand United during the Continental merger. When Untied and Continental merged, this livery was already over 30 years old. And to take that livery and just slap United titles on it.... I really hated it, and still do haha. United's new livery is a major improvement.

      Due to the tight location of the gate, it is a "tow in" gate. There are several airports around the country that have gates like this. LAX is another one that has several that I can think of off the top of my head. Basically, things are so tight to get the aircraft in, it's safer for the aircraft to stop before the gate, shut down the engines, and have the ground crew come out and hook a tug up to pull the aircraft in the rest of the way. That's what they were doing here.
