I worked at a pawn shop last year and one of these came in. Being the most experienced with instruments in the store i got to have a wee test play. Nice playing machine and got to talk to the family about the history.
I have a 64 Epiphone Century E422T which is almost the same guitar. It has a P90 instead of the melody maker pickup and two exposed f-holes. Also has the long Epi headstock. Got it in 1981 from 48th Street Guitars in NYC for my twenty first birthday. It sounds great and is fun to play.
Guild is underrated - they made some excellent instruments, used by some famous musicians. Jerry Garcia may have had his best tone in the early days when using a Guild Starfire. Bonny Raitt always plays a big Guild acoustic guitar. Guild 12-string guitars were some of the best. Phil Lesh played a Guild hollow body bass in the early days - those were great too. Kelly Joe Phelps used a Guild DV-52 acoustic for awhile. D-35 and D-40 Guilds are mahogany drednought acoustics that feel and sound much like a Martin D-18. and their D-50 is similar to a D-28. My 1972 D-40 is an awesome mahogany dreadnought, which now has 6100 frets - an old warhorse of a guitar!
Very interesting guitar, but more importantly is the confirmation that Jen is a complete Monster!! I love it when she just jumps in and steals Lemmo's thunder, keeping it light, keeping it fun!! 😁🎸🎶
This is a great wake up vid for me in Europe as always. I look forward to being stunned by your playing Michael on terrific guitars. Seeing this really beautiful guitar I think is an apitomy of the early 60's.Good to hear that Jen taught you an alternative tuning! Thnx again.
I am pretty sure it has all the electronics housed in the pick guard hence the height off the body, reduced cost not having to wire it through the F hole. Another great job Lemmo ! Thanks Jen ! 😎🎸🤘
I do luv the epiphones , I have 7 in my collection , never even heard of a Granada tho , very cool actually , crazy pick guard , great tone tho , very bright and deep , perfect for Mr. Lemmos hammers and pulls , such a unique and creative guitarist , never ceases to amaze and entertain , a huge talent , very impressive , thanks guys.
Hammer ons with index and pinkie, playing the rest of the strings with pick lightly. Really cool effect, try it and you can get the hang of it eventually.
My dad has the Gibson version from '64 (Es- 120-T) It was his first guitar. Very cool guitars, but I prefer the full bodied ones with the p90s. (ES 120)
Just curious, but did the make the goofy pick guard so they could just bolt down all the electronics on top of the body? Probably saves money on drilling holes and fishing all the wiring inside.
Such a beautiful guitar! I love that finish and I like the pick guard, but I wish it was either black or tortoise shell. They probably made it cream to match the binding.
What a HUGE Insult to Lemmo ! Take away Morello's "Whammy" pedal, & NADA ! He's got Nothing. "Bulls on Parade" is a cool song, I Stand by my comment. Effects are like spices, To be used.. As Needed. I had a Prototype Whammy pedal Years before "Rage". But to me, It was "Cheating" I CAN do that & more on an Old Charvel 1980 ? W/Early Floyd, small reverse Strat Headstock. I Rarely play that anymore. I Will Litterly give it to Lemmo. ((If I die )) ! + MORE.
Not having a crack but.....Tom Morello does plenty of cool shit and is definitely an innovative Guitarist, that's the beauty of it,so many different ways to (skin a cat) so to speak,Tom Morello may not be everybody's Cup of Tea but he's friggin cool and damm good, Hell of a public speaker and Fu.kin Smart too
The McCarty pick guard was an add-on to to non electric Gibson arch tops in the late '50's and early '60's, like Super 400's and the like. It featured one or two slug magnet P-90 style pickups built into the flush floating pickguard. The controls were mounted on the pick guard too.
@@dotnex Thanks for the info I was wondering if that was the set up , Jeff Beck plays the Gibson version I think in the film Blowup with the Yardbirds , Stroll on . Also Beck smashes it to pieces in the scene .
Does Mike not know that it's a single f-hole guitar and that all the electronics are above the body, in that bubble pickguard? That's why the pg is so bulbous. He sure knows how to make it sound sweet, though.
That EXACT SAME Guitar used to be in a Pawn Shop in Hot Springs, ARK. KALAMAZOO MODEL. It was sold to Los Angeles Dealer in 1989 or so. Pawn Shop on Park Avenue, JOHN'S PAWN SHOP. He was very excited to learn it was """Collectible""" (he got way more than his asking price." ) & I got a $10.00 VICTOR ARMS 12 GAGE SHOTGUN made in 1899 for my Tip to Uncle John. Yeas, a Long Barrel "Goose Gun" for $10.00 because the Hammer was Trigger Worn, I had to take it to a Gumsmith in Montgomery Gounty to the Oldest Gunmaker in Arkansas, he had THE TRIGGER THINGIE that WAS VICTOR ARMS to keep it from SHOOTING with a SHAKE! That thing had a not nice Neck Profile to me, I was a 1966 Gibson ES 330 player, WHOLE DIFFERENT NECK profile, as you knwo.
I have this guitar tattooed on me my bishop who taught me guitar had this guitar I miss him so much 😭

OK... Chumly ...
Er...ok
This is the most musically rewarding demo of anything I’ve seen in a *LONG* time 😳 Thank you SO much! ❤️
Great to see something different today.. sounds awesome
Reminds me of how Phil Keaggy approaches a song . Lovely guitar, and of course Michael's talent.
Phil is Looper king!
Very nice. I have a couple Epiphones and love them. This medley was approved by my dog who loves music. He just calmed down while you played
JEN!! She kicks ass! ...A-D! Finishes the kids tuning description!! Great!
Tomorrow is GOTD 4th anniversary!
i love that medley he played i wanna learn to play it so bad
When's Jen gonna do a gotd
Dat pickguard is THICC!
brittle plastic is an issue but it sounds really nice
I could listen to this all day long

This has got to be one of my favourite GOTDs... that song at the start. Wow. Such a vibe.

Notice how Fender are at the top by lots, makes me think fender are paying a few quid in back handers.

It just depends what sound you want and what you like
Wow. This tone and playing is top tier.

Michael!!! Inspiring✨
Love the originals
I like that playing style A LOT.
I like that tuning, very nice playing, nice guitar
Very relaxing set. Loved it! Never seen that guitar before. Always interesting to see new stuff.
got the Gibson 120T virtually the same ..Love that guitar
Trippy guitar
What are the songs played in the video?
I am pretty sure it has all the electronics housed in the pick guard hence the height off the body, reduced cost not having to wire it through the F hole. Another great job Lemmo ! Thanks Jen ! 😎🎸🤘
Your album should be titled, "The Sounds of Lemmo."
Feel free to keep that...

I dig Melody Maker pickups. Nice playing from Michael too.
very enjoyable
Jen steals the show
Beautiful medley, Lemmo! What an interesting guitar.
Its super cool because i live in Granada 🤟🤟
Thanks, Jen. Always wondered the correct spelling for Dadgad👍
I really liked that it touched my soul
Perfect song to complement the guitar. Name of song?
Cool Thanks for sharing
Absolutely love that guitar, keeper for sure
5:00-5:25 is dreamy
Really enjoy the tune
Lemmo is a hypnotist! Dr. Mesmer!
this would’ve made a good wacky wednesday lol
h a p p y d a z e when I saw the video come up I got confused and actually thought it was Wednesday lol
How does he do that? - would love to see a lesson. Not likely I could learn it, although might be able to get some new ideas
Hammer ons with index and pinkie, playing the rest of the strings with pick lightly. Really cool effect, try it and you can get the hang of it eventually.
For the low cost model, it has a nice sunburst.
My dad has the Gibson version from '64 (Es- 120-T)
It was his first guitar.
Very cool guitars, but I prefer the full bodied ones with the p90s. (ES 120)
It’s funny on 08:10 Michael trying to still playing and talk at same time 😂😂
I like it and dope little tune there. 🤘
I was learning to play on this guitar back in 05 -06 and my alcoholic father borrowed it from me and lost it to a pawn shop in Williston Florida.
Bro that song was so cool
Very cool.
Always epic dude.
A beauty!
Just curious, but did the make the goofy pick guard so they could just bolt down all the electronics on top of the body? Probably saves money on drilling holes and fishing all the wiring inside.
You are spot on
Oldy, but goody👍
Such a beautiful guitar! I love that finish and I like the pick guard, but I wish it was either black or tortoise shell. They probably made it cream to match the binding.
Nice playing Lemmo :)
弹的很棒!太好听了!
Gorgeous
Does Norm not have any right angle cords? For some reason it bothers me seeing that jack sticking out there. Great playing as always!!
Needed to play some Jeremy Spencer/Elmore James on that guitar man
cool. Shades of The Messenger.
I wonder if the electronics and wiring are all contained within the pick guard body?
They are.
Thats why it gets thick towards the lower bout room for the pots and output jack
Nice to see something different today. Maybe we can get you to play the Bellzouki next?
With the pickguard shape, to me this looks like a "Phantom of the Opera" guitar
One day, i'll to LA and i'll meet M.Lemmo at NRG and i'll buy one of their guitar!!!
i have the same daydream!
I went and saw. It was a great experience, Norm and team were very friendly. Tim Pierce was there as well.
Funky axe dude ! 😯
Nice looking guitar, I wonder how much.
Lemmo The Looper...😁
$150 in June 1963 had the same buying power as $1,276.83 in December 2020.
Is that a wood bridge??
You can take the pickguard off and it’s just a thin hollow body acoustic
I wonder if there’s another f-hole under there and that’s why it’s hollow plastic that doesn’t quite sit flush?
Joe R M no, it’s raised to allow room for the electronics. There might be a F-hole, but I cannot remember
@@jjulch No f-hole, just an oddly shaped hole for the wiring covered by the pick guard.
Never seen one of those before. Nice git.
The Tom Morello of this generation but with a Full DJ rig, wow!!!!
What a HUGE Insult to Lemmo ! Take away Morello's "Whammy" pedal, & NADA ! He's got Nothing. "Bulls on Parade" is a cool song, I Stand by my comment. Effects are like spices, To be used.. As Needed. 1. Life in the Fast Lane, The Eagles
2. Rock n' Roll Star, Oasis
I was hoping for The Rain Song lol
Do the strings come free?
It was a guitar that looked rather like this that Jeff Beck smashed up in "Blow Up"
That's friggin rad

The pickguard is called,(if I remember..) “The McCarty Pickguard”
The McCarty pick guard was an add-on to to non electric Gibson arch tops in the late '50's and early '60's, like Super 400's and the like. It featured one or two slug magnet P-90 style pickups built into the flush floating pickguard. The controls were mounted on the pick guard too.
Look it up, it was designed for high end Gibson arch tops.
@@dotnex Thanks for the info I was wondering if that was the set up , Jeff Beck plays the Gibson version I think in the film Blowup with the Yardbirds , Stroll on . Also Beck smashes it to pieces in the scene .
How long have Epiphone and Gibson been working together...? asking for a friend...lol
Lemmo tell Todd he's the shit love the edibles !!
What a weird but wonderful looking guitar you got there Lemmo! However! Gotta do a Maton!
Just picked up this exact model and year. Mint condition. For sale, if anyone's interested.
You make it sound so good. This was the guitar I learned on. Ugly
Remove the guard = Cool looking guitar
That was a tasty fine medley!
Holy shittttt
You make it sound so good! But that horrible pickguard!
Sorta Michael Hedges
Pretty sure the tuning is DADADE

Very nice. Also, how does Jen feel about Cricket wireless stealing her catchphrase. “Byeeeee”
Am I the only one who can barely hear the thing! C'mon Lemmo crank it ! Give it some shit!
That pick Guard was designed to let the f hole breathe and hold the guts
I guess it’s not a good guitar unless it’s made in America? I got plenty of great guitars made in Japan.
List for $149.50 . Minimum wage in 63 was $1.25
Gas was a quarter a gallon and chicken was 15 cents a pound and a brand new '63 split window corvette was about 5 grand!
