  • Why do we use head-tracker to fly FPV? Some pointers on how I use head-tracking to enhance situational awareness, immersion, scale realism, and maintain safe separation with wingman and bogies! It feels so natural and intuitive to fly with head-tracking FPV - freedom!
Flying in a Spitfire has been a dream since childhood. Now I have done it with head-tracking FPV from the cockpit of a RC Spitfire! You can, too!
Plane: Avios Spitfire Mk Vb / Pilot: "Motionsic" (FPV)
Defender: Freewing Avanti / Pilot: ”Aerocali” (LOS)
Featuring: miniature Mk 8 US Navy reflector sight 1:7.5 scale, 14mm wide
*FPV Gear: DJI Goggles Race Edition Combo - including camera, air unit, and built-in head-tracker. I no longer recommend this system. It is outdated! Use following instead:
    Recommended FPV system:
    DJI FPV Goggles V2: www.getfpv.com...
DJI AIR Unit (by Caddx): fpvdogfight.co...
Pan & tilt: Motionsic BAG (BadAss Gimbal) fpvdogfight.co...

Field: OCMA, Black Star, Bob Swenson Memorial Field, Silverado, CA

    Auto Pilot: "Glide Slope active."
I've dreamt about an ILS system for rc planes.
I imagine flying through thick haze to watch my rc plane appear outta the clouds landing lights on a well established glide slope on final.
Outfit jets with thrust reversers. Simple to introduce an actuated duct restriction enough to stop a ducted fan like the real jet. Spoilers and thrust reversers deployed per main gear squat switches.
One click on "go around" would fly preset courses automatic gear up flaps to take off climbing out at full along runway heading to intercept again ILS. You could even set beacon markers if you want to fly the ils yourself.
A simple system could utilize a gps homing device from transmitter to plane from a pre determined entrance altitude at say some beacon designating heading and distance to transmitter

    • @motionsic

Should be able to, in my opinion, if you can drive with one good eye. Even though the goggle has two screens, they are presenting the same image from the same camera, so not stereoscopic. And the image is individually clear. In fact, I am helping another client with similar condition setting up his first FPV plane as well. He has already “taken a ride” in my plane and decided to go for it!

Spins-line up over runway high and level flight slower speed-power to idle maintaining level-keep holding level or slight nose up-wait for buffet-use rudder to keep straight-when she goes over pull stick full aft-full rudder (either direction for now)-nose will drop and count 3 revolutions-stick neutral-center rudder-recover-add power in and level out. Wow, mind blown. FPV, RC, sim, immersion, situational awareness, the real use of head tracker.

    • @motionsic
      @motionsic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks! I always wondered why head-tracker have not caught on earlier. It's such a great device to make FPV truly immersive. I literally can't fly and don't find FPV enjoyable without using head tracker.

@@motionsic Is it because of the price thing? Or is it because of the software and programming things are hard to setup in general?

    • @motionsic

@@kwcnasa I guess t's just inconvenient to setup for most people. People really want a plug and play solution. Which it is now almost that easy. I guess it's the cost of the Digital FPV goggles that is really keeping from mass adaption.
