This was an absaloute awesome fight. When he was trying to control his anger telling him to leave, I started to chuckle, saying the stranger is about to get whooped. My smile turned upside down when the guy punched him over his house..
When I heard Kratos say "leave my home", it gave me a flash back of all the bosses and God's he killed before and it was just a reminder of how fucking badass this character is.
SPOILER---- After beating the game and rewatching this, you get the sense that Baldur thought you were a Giant. He was sent by Odin because he wants to stop Ragnarok and the Giants had/have foresight. He thought you’d be bigger because he thought you were a giant. He says you know why he’s there because of their foresight. He never knew Kratos was a Greek God far from home.
Hashtag Orion I mean lets be honest. Kratos is still pretty big and intimidating with his mass and muscles so it just makes him look more like a small giant to baldur which only supports what you said.
The first ogre with those regenerating poison enemies were where I was forced to bring it down a difficulty. I had to just sprint around waiting for the ogre to throw all the minions first, but then the fucking thing had an AoE attack that was inconsistent. Sometimes I wasn't effected by it...sometimes I was OHK from the same distance after a dodge. Made it impossible
I think it’s a way to distance himself just enough from him so that if anything happened to him he won’t rage out like he did with his first family. This whole game was Kratos holding back because all he wanted was to start over. But he knows that he’ll never be able to change who he is.
Mamma uncles aunts & my peers would all call me "boy" when i was growing up... lol especially when i did something wrong. "BOY, SATCHO ASS DOWN SOMEWHERE" southern thing i guess
Right? I am bias toward Nordic lore so this was cool to see Baldur portrayed as a badass but also an asshole. Kratos never really won any of his fights with Baldur and yet Kratos had his weapons while Baldur just had his hands and feet. Just makes me wonder what the story is going forward.
FatalFist Dude, Kratos won every time and was also holding back according to the developers. Plus, he was rusty ("shaking off the cobwebs", as Cory Barlog put it). Baldur also had outside help through Freya and her spell. Baldur is nowhere near Kratos' level, dude. None of the gods are.
Watching this fight convinced me to get the game. I watched the fight twice before buying it. I've now played it myself, and yet here I am watching it again. It is just awesome!
I’m glad that they will with the route they took and focus on a handful of gods (lesser known one at compared Thor and Odin) as well as having one as a constant rival so to speak. GoW3 was amazing but many of the gods in it were only boss battle and nothing more you know. The gods you fight in this actually feel important and killing them will have consequences. Also I feel like it only hype up the eventually fight between Thor and Odin. If they did this with Baldur, imagine what they can do with Thor
I hope they don't down play Thor and maybe make some kind of redemption arc. Baldr was to be expected since in the Norse mythos, Loki tricks Hoor into killing him during a competition where Baldr was proclaiming that nothing could harm him. Hoor used a spear/arrow crafted by Loki that of course killed him. But this story is so weird. Jormungr being an ally for one (even though it was the sibling of Fenrir and meant to usher in Ragnarok) Odin even kills Tyr out of fear/jealousy so that begs the question as to why. Why is the Norse land so fucked up?
FatalFist My guess is that after the the evils Kratos released from pandora’s box were left with out vessels to contain them (as a result of Kratos killing the Olympians) they followed the vessel of hope (Kratos). With no containers powerful enough to hold them except for gods they infected the Norse gods after Kratos arrived in the Norse lands.
In the beggining: "stay calm Kratos he s just drunk * hits kratos * shit man... * kratos beats him * ohh god...poor guy * hits kratos hard * *HOLY SHIT* Edit: thank you for the 222 likes
Joel Boland yeah 😂 i was confused. After he hit kratos i was thinking about: "*HOLY SHIT* is he a god or something??" Then Balder (the stranger) started talking about his brother. I was asking these: "brother...is he....Loki? He has the powers of a frost giant...he s possibly Loki"
After seeing the ending reveal what the stranger is talking about (being better, enlightened, Kratos not being as big as expected) makes complete sense
My thinking is that Baldur knew of the greeks obviously but due to being young and arrogant, probably thought the Jotun (Nordic giants) and Greek Pantheon were one in the same.
This fight blew my fucking mind, and its like what, half hour, 40 minutes into the game. Anyone who was a previous fan of GOW will love the new take on kratos, but this wasnt the full thing
God of War raises the bar for every game that comes after, imho. Especially compared to all the lesser, eh....what I'd consider 'incomplete games' in the past 8 years alone that have a huge chunk of their content as DLCs........... at least GoW doesn't nickel and dime you every which way. At least for me, this is greatly appreciated........ and in this day and age of modern gaming.
No. It would ruin the creativity if multi-shots went away completely. Some of the best shots in cinematic history would never have been accomplished with a single-shot structure.
I was never this enticed into a boss fight since most of the boss fights In Kingdom Hearts 2. That was the last time I felt the epicness of boss battles.
Baldur may not care but I still think he has no clue who Kratos use to be. Because GOW 3 Kratos would have gone off the wall on Baldur from that first slap. He has definently calmed down since then.
Thats because he's TRYING to hold in his inner rage. The comic/movie art shows him letting a pack of wolves attack him. He eventually kills them all. Returns home and Boi was like "awesome dad" and kratos tells him no, he failed. He failed because he no longer wants contant rage and death, thats why this game is less gory and titty filled. Kratos needs to carry the will of his wife, which is keeping Boi safe and teaching. Kratos of GOW with all his weapons? Would ruin the norse pantheon ouside of Thor and Odin.
@@BrainDeadNed Greek pantheon can't die in actual mythology, Norse can. The difference being Norse gods are heroes whereas Greek gods are gods, the Greeks can never be courageous or heroic because they have no fear of death, they're assured victory in the end and thus have little to lose. Norse Gods are extremely powerful but Odin himself sacrificed his eye for visions of the future, he saw Ragnarok, the end of days where the Jotun would destroy Yggdrasil, shatter Bifrost (pronounced "Bee-froast"), and battle the gods of Asgard to the bloody end. The Norse gods would all ultimately die fighting the giants, all three realms would be destroyed, but in time the destruction would give way to a rebirth not even Odin's prophetic sight could forsee. So of the two the Greek pantheon is more powerful but the Norse would be more worthy of their mantles, by what justification do immortal beings incapable of bearing consequences also deserve veneration? At least if you die heroically you can join the norse gods in their banquet hall of Valhalla, a place where you can eat, fight, and indulge without fear until Ragnarok arrives (you literally die and are respawned in the hall if you do die there, you retain memories but death itself isn't agonizingly death-like)
I also like how the subtitles doesn't spoil the game. It said "STRANGER" at the first encounter. And when his name is revealed later on, it changed to "BALDUR".
Just started finally playing this game and this boss fight was beyond epic. I love that the first guy Kratos fights in this game is this scrawny small guy and he manages to kick his ass real good.
Its not about his age, its about him TRYING to not become the ghost of sparta again. Baldur was invincible here, kratos killed him 5 times over in this fight alone
Big Wagon he actually does as per Corey Barlog stating it. He is clearly older here and less powerful than he used to. But that’s the whole point of the game. Kratos from GoW 3 was peak Kratos. He would be too powerful. Just look how long it takes Kratos to recover in this game
I swear I think that If you hate the kid then you have so much in common with being a child that you’re in denial. They did a such wonderful job with Atreus. There relationship makes the game in my opinion. He’s a LITTLE BOY people. Of course he’s going to be annoying!
I think some people hate him without even giving him a chance, most likely because of some traumas we've experienced in games that had a companion alongside you in the journey (Ashley from RE 4, for example). Thing is, Atreus is such a great character and should not be discarded as merely an annoying kid

BJ MoraleSS Official Page Oh. I see. You’re a little kid. That’s why you don’t understand.
I love this part at 5:45 how Kratos just completely overpowers him.
This isn't the whole fight...
Baldur gets right back up after you try to leave
Yep
Yeah how surprising... Everyone knew its gonna happen lol
Yes, but you still crack his neck after that.
I like the part where they cracked the ground in half.

it's Conor McGregor!

I thought the same lol
Lmao😂
He just wants Kratos’ belt.
When I heard Kratos say "leave my home", it gave me a flash back of all the bosses and God's he killed before and it was just a reminder of how fucking badass this character is.
Kratos: You do not want this fight.
Baldur: Oh... I'm pretty sure I do.
Me: Dis gon be good *grabs popcorn*
Kratos just stands still getting his ass kicked waiting for a man eating popcorn to input a command
I feel like GoW 3 Kratos would have straight murdered that man
F Exactly what i was thinking. Great name btw ;)
he can't kill him even with his full max powers from GoW3 he is unkillable without Mistletoe
Aymen Fayçal GOW3 kratos still probably would’ve tried though
Kratos is trying to contain his anger because he wants to control his true nature and if he's snap he would probably go nuts, and also hes old
perrosky X true but doesn't kratos have some form of immortality.
6:10 didn't think they have cameraman in here
Poor cameraman 😂😂😂
SPOILER----
After beating the game and rewatching this, you get the sense that Baldur thought you were a Giant. He was sent by Odin because he wants to stop Ragnarok and the Giants had/have foresight. He thought you’d be bigger because he thought you were a giant. He says you know why he’s there because of their foresight. He never knew Kratos was a Greek God far from home.
Ty for that
Damn, that makes sense.
Hashtag Orion
I mean lets be honest. Kratos is still pretty big and intimidating with his mass and muscles so it just makes him look more like a small giant to baldur which only supports what you said.
Hashtag Orion I think he knew that Atreus was half giant
Hashtag Orion wow good observations I didn't think about that
Reminds me of Logan when the villain goes in the limo and talks to him
Yeah I was reminded of the exact same actor haha
Common Logic Same here!

I already had a ps4 but picked up the limited edition god of war ps4 pro just because this game is seriously amazing.
Better to have 1 reason than no reasons like the Xbox 1.
If I find an amazon deal where they have like a GOW themed PS4 bro you best believe I’m buying that shit
Can we take a moment to acknowledge how brutal that kick at 8:52 is?
not as violent as 6:06 literally softest kick ever sent him FLYING
I started the game on hard mode and immediately regretted it during this fight.
HAHAHAH SAME FOR ME YO
I finished the game on hard, this part was easy for me,but later in the game... lol, guess I died like 20-30 times in the whole game.
You have the Sharingan there is no excuse
I literally kept dying on hard at the VERY FIRST FIGHT ENCOUNTER! (shown in the demo) That's about as low as it gets...
That fact that kratos calls his son "BOY" 😂😂😂
Yea you wasn't planned at all haha
Chris Jones you have no idea how correct your statement is when you refer to him calling Arteus "Boy". 😂
Chrisafisn hahahahhaha yea man
I think it’s a way to distance himself just enough from him so that if anything happened to him he won’t rage out like he did with his first family.
It gives him a sort of Hank Hill charm.
6:08 shout out to that great piece in the game. Made me feel like it was a NPC cameraman catching the whole scrap
yeah there's just a 12 year old cheering them on while recording the whole thing
Man these Norse Gods aren't push overs, makes sense considering they were mostly worshipped by Vikings
If this is the strength and power of Bauldr, who is not a strength god, then just imagine how strong and powerful Thor and Odin are
@@evanlight671 baldur basically is average. He just don't feel anything that makes him vulnerable in long fight

Alvinn who gives a digit?. That line is zetta dull
Excluding the fact that he killed his daughter lol
Piromyśl well he had no other choice.Ares tricked Kratos into killing them.
His words make more sense when you know the ending
I’m glad that they will with the route they took and focus on a handful of gods (lesser known one at compared Thor and Odin) as well as having one as a constant rival so to speak. GoW3 was amazing but many of the gods in it were only boss battle and nothing more you know. The gods you fight in this actually feel important and killing them will have consequences. Also I feel like it only hype up the eventually fight between Thor and Odin. If they did this with Baldur, imagine what they can do with Thor
Ryne Green facts
I imagine thir is next games main antagonist and odin the one for the third game
@@FatalFist because gods in GOW are fucked up
FatalFist
My guess is that after the the evils Kratos released from pandora’s box were left with out vessels to contain them (as a result of Kratos killing the Olympians) they followed the vessel of hope (Kratos). With no containers powerful enough to hold them except for gods they infected the Norse gods after Kratos arrived in the Norse lands.

Moose Playz - I know man...

My older siblings:
After seeing the ending reveal what the stranger is talking about (being better, enlightened, Kratos not being as big as expected) makes complete sense
My thinking is that Baldur knew of the greeks obviously but due to being young and arrogant, probably thought the Jotun (Nordic giants) and Greek Pantheon were one in the same.

The single camera action is very immersive. Multi camera shots should die now.
MALO single camera work is a lot of work but the pay off is very refreshing.
One shot take is better
No. It would ruin the creativity if multi-shots went away completely. Some of the best shots in cinematic history would never have been accomplished with a single-shot structure.
You should totally watch every Emmanuel Lubezki's movie, then. Single camera action is his nickname.

I was never this enticed into a boss fight since most of the boss fights In Kingdom Hearts 2. That was the last time I felt the epicness of boss battles.
Kratos is bald, but the stranger is Baldur.
It's been 4 years and I'm just now figuring out he said "my turn"
I thought he said "might" for the longest time. Sounded cool
@@JackTheripper911 who are more powerful the Greek pantheon or Norse I don't remember
At least if you die heroically you can join the norse gods in their banquet hall of Valhalla, a place where you can eat, fight, and indulge without fear until Ragnarok arrives (you literally die and are respawned in the hall if you do die there, you retain memories but death itself isn't agonizingly death-like)
@@Your-Least-Favorite-Stranger But in Greek mythology weren't the titans the only ones to be able to kill the gods or so I've read
Gorroth The-Impaler GOW 3 Kratos would have ripped his head off and used it for one purpose or another l.

What do u mean
Just started finally playing this game and this boss fight was beyond epic. I love that the first guy Kratos fights in this game is this scrawny small guy and he manages to kick his ass real good.
Best fighting scene in all gaming history
This isn’t the whole fight. There’s another minute or two missing from it.
I like of how kratos handle baldur before the fight starts like he's a drunk guy
I wanted to play this part over and over I had a smile from ear to ear this whole fight
2:28 when your boi comes for his money but your in a bad mood
I think the reason baldur speaks so strangely is because he can't even feel the movement of his own tongue
Only if kratos was young he would destroy baldur
He technically destroyed him here too, but baldur was still invulnerable.
Kratos doesn’t age
Its not about his age, its about him TRYING to not become the ghost of sparta again. Baldur was invincible here, kratos killed him 5 times over in this fight alone
Big Wagon he actually does as per Corey Barlog stating it. He is clearly older here and less powerful than he used to. But that’s the whole point of the game. Kratos from GoW 3 was peak Kratos. He would be too powerful.
Just look how long it takes Kratos to recover in this game
Globox822 Baldur is untouchable. GOW3 Kratos wouldn’t have been able to beat him neither.
Ghostwolf nah he is annoying and i will keep giving him shit, but i can say he is a better character then ellie from the last of us
Pantsalonis idk I think that in the next game, he will be an important figure, maybe even becoming the next protagonist
Fr Atreus is awesome.
