Even under pressure, he does not make the mistake to try to block with the forehand side on the backhand. Wang Hao and Ma Lin kicked off something with the attacking PH backhand. Now it seems like Dang Qiu is one of the first who grew up with this new improved penholder style.
Felix Lebrun as well. It seems like it's become a requirement to have a strong reverse backhand in order to be competitive these days, and it's definitely a welcome evolution of the style into a more streamlined attacking game. I will admit however that there was a certain charm to the shot variety and styles that arose from the limitations of the traditional penhold backhand.
