I actually just looked at one yesterday. It had all options, but I was actually shocked that I was sitting in a dodge. The interior was insanely comfortable.
he said 160hp isnt enough in the real world? i have a 118hp truck that weighs more with a outdated 5 speed. its definitely enough. Us Americans are just power hungry ;)
I looked at a Dart today. I walked away thinking, NEON all over again. Why? The sticker stated 19% parts from Mexico, transmission Italy, and engine USA. Now this turbo 1.4 is supposed to be an Italian mill. BUT, the hoses and imprints are all Chrysler. So is Chrysler using the blueprint of the Italian mill and making it themselves? Then when I got in the car and shut the door, the molding that houses the seat belt on the driver side, fell off. WTF. Has trouble written all over it
As a car purchaser, I would consider my current and future needs. For all I know I could be wrong in my purchase decision at a given time based on future needs. I don't use power windows in my daily, and only 1 cupholder. I drive a lone in the car, and it fits my particular needs. Would it fit yours? Doubt it, but I prefer choices. "Standard" features do drive up the overall price of a car (even if just a bit), so I opt for bare bones for myself whenever possible.
I wanted one with the 1.4T and 6-speed manual. However, there feels like there's a slight delay in the electronic throttle (NOT turbo lag, which I expected), this combined with the very light clutch that had no touch-point feel, made shifting an exercise in frustration. Dropped it right off my list. Going to test drive a Mazda 3 Skyactiv, I hear the drivetrain in that works much better!
Can someone please explain to me why when I went to the dealer and looked over the list and avail options for the dart. Out of all the configurations there wasn't a sunroof option? I'm baffled. Thanks
I understand the point your making I'm just saying by 2013, all cars should have power windows, cup holders,a/c heat those simple amenities are needed for everyday driving. Cars that come from the factory without a/c are japanese track cars like the NSX Type R, Honda S2000 CR, or the R32 Skyline GTR N1. What if you move from where you live to somewhere sunny or what if you sold your car to someone who was visiting from a sunny state, the no a/c component wouldn't benefit you.
correction, alfa actually produces and designs all the engines in chrysler and fiats. THey are all alfas. The only engine designed, produced, engineered, and strictly made in the US is the LS series of the corvette. Chrysler signed a contract with alfa in april 21 2010 for them to make and engineer and produce all chrysler engines and fiat (the chrysler division).
pretty good review. I would love to see a mazda 3 skyactiv vs the 1.4l turbo dart review...I'm considering one of those two cars...maybe the cruze or focus.
I really like the Dart. I optioned one out on the website with navigation, premium sound, 6-speed manual, etc. and came to $22,235. Not bad at all! I like the 6-speed manual as opposed to the 5-speed of the Focus.
the modern Corvette has practically nothing in common with its 1960s counterpart. The only reason why it retains RWD is because it is a proper sports car. It may interest you to know that the current Charger has more in common with the 1969 model than with the 1983; the latter was a 4-cylinder, front-wheel drive hatchback!
The regular 2016 Civic will have a 1.5 liter Turbo that has about 174HP, so close to the HP (184) and torque (174) of the 2.4L Tigershark.. Dodge Dart has competition now! And will likely weigh less, since the Dart weighs about 3,050 pounds. Then you have the unrevealed Si model and finally the type R! Moving to more expensive though more efficient cars, The 2016 Prius has more HP too (likely about 150HP) and will likely accelerate very quickly off the line thanks to the electric motors starting it off. Not to mention ~55-60MPG! 2016 Chevy Volt is fast too (150HP fully electric acceleration).
Driving one right now as a rental. I was apprehensive at first but its okay. Not the fastest machine for sure and mileage is okay but for the price to have the bells and whistles and nicer exterior package I would not buy one. You can easily move up a segment at that price. Good for a rental or lease. But wouldn't run out the door to buy one...
Who do you think you are saying if someone is lazy or not because they don't like manual transmissions? Everyone I know who doesn't like manual transmissions say they don't like them because it gets annoying. While some people are bored easily and enjoy MTs, a lot of people don't. It is a preference.
What I don't understand is why people always expect the Detroit Three to keep coming up with new nameplates. Other companies release radically different new cars ALL THE TIME and still keep the same name between revisions. As far as I'm concerned, the old Dart was a grocery getter; a staid commuter car, and so is this one. The purpose remains unchanged, despite the shift from RWD to FWD. We clearly have very different opinions on what a nameplate means; perhaps we should just agree to disagree.
Im just saying there are alot of 4 cylinders with over 300 hp This car doesnt because it is designed to be an economy car, well except for the srt version which will produce just shy of 300. I am not saying you should tune your car to get this much HP especially on a new car due to warranty issues, I was just saying that the guy in the video that thinks this car is "slow" has obviously not driven many cars.
He's right, you have to go up to the SXT to get something you want to drive, but even for $19k, I think this is an excellent vehicle! I would rather drive a Dart than a Corolla or Cruze. Time will tell if it can stand up to the Civic's reliability.
well looks like i'm buyin a new civic.......15,900 price tag got me lookin but once u add a/c and some features that should be standard in this day and age i'm payin the same for a midlevel packaged civic
hell for most 6 cyliders thats alot. The old OHV 6's ford had only put out 150. Chevy 6's in their little trucks put out 130. the late 90's camrys and early 2000's only put out between 135 and 160. Also, I am sure this car can be tuned to easily put out more than 300 HP, kinda like most new cars are capable of with little mods
yea... I just think it's a lot of fun. Yea on avg they get more gas mileage and you have to pay more attention the the road, I really like having control of accelerating the car and it's a lot of fun, uless you live in a crowded city then sometimes it's a pain! Def try it out! Good Luck! :)
Every single car you mentioned has continued and improved on the original creation. They are STILL recognizable, unlike the Dart, which has ZERO to do with the original, rear wheel drive Dart. The Corvette and Mustang have MAINTAINED their musclecar heritage. The new Charger is a great car, but it is a SEDAN, and has nothing to do with the original.
Preference is fine. If you love a manual I think there should always be the option of having one. But I think every country besides America is moving more toward duel clutch and paddle shifters. They are easier to drive and much faster to shift than manual, thus make a faster less busy car. They may take some fun away from purists, however.
Chrysler shoulda kept the NEON name and also kept the SEBRING name. I guess they changed names to make you think your getting something else. I drove the Multiair Turbo today. It's a better Neon.
As far as the Dart goes, all the other econoboxes (eg. Galant, Camry) made the FWD-RWD shift in the 1980s, so I see no problems with this one doing the same. Cars evolve, and most Darts were just anemic slant-sixers to begin with.
good answer but that's bullshit, that's like saying if you live in Socal (which I do) cars shouldn't be sold with radios because its more appeasing to enjoy the nice weather and to just roll down the window and enjoy the sound of the road or if you live in the city enjoy all the action that LA has to offer
Well then also look on fueleconomy -dot-org at the real world submissions. I also know 2 people that have 3rd gen Priuses. They get about 45MPG in the cold months (winter gas +colder) and about 50MPG in the warmer months. The 4th gen Prius will get AWD, a bit more MPG and a new look. They are very reliable too so there shouldn't be a hesitation with buying a well maintained used Prius vs a new Dart as far as total cost of ownership is concerned. But the pre-2004 Prius isn't as good so go newer.
I have to disagree. Unless you live in LA you pretty much should drive a manual. Every country but the US has them and it's sad that we are going away from them. You can teach anyone to drive a manual. Better control of the car and better gas... It's preference but sticks are awesome
the doors and taillight design are clearly from the intrepid. why don't they stop being so sorry about how many angry customers they got with the engine sludge problem and start making it again? IT WAS A GREAT CAR AND STILL IS!!! we still have our 2001 se and it's been on countless trips from fl to mi and back. you just gotta show it some care and it won't let you down and it looks amazing for being a full sized family car. really, the intrepid line needs to be revived. put a viper engine in. :D
I would say as a 20 year old this car is more in my range and for people even younger than me. The music wasnt great but electronic music is very popular with younger people. Just saying I liked the intro. The rest of it was boring even though I watched it. It was full useful info.
You are REALLY missing the point. Yes, modern cars ARE better all around. That was never in debate, but to compare them is like apples and oranges. You might as well tell me that a Camry is vastly superior to a 1970 440 Cuda, because of all the modern technology. Leave the historic nameplates where they belong, and stop using them to market cars that are pretty much ordinary modern vehicles with little to NO connection to them.
That is true, it is an Apples-to-Oranges comaprison, but I think peoples' aversion to the use of historic nameplates is a little weird. The Corvette and the Mustang are very long-running nameplates that are still around. The modern Corolla and Accord are also historic nameplates with little or no connection to their humble, compact, rear-drive ancestors.
pretty much every car you're going to see on the lot will have A/C in it. I would be really surprised if they had the BASE model. No A/C even holds true with the Honda civic if you price a car out.
The brand isn't known for reliability because of mercedes benz taking advatage of chrysler several years ago, this is Fiat's work, this should be good.
That is nothing alike, and why you fail to make a response without swearing I can only wonder... A radio would still have use despite your preference for the city sights. Cranking the A/C in the winter is counterproductive in both fuel usage and keeping the cabin liveable. It can truly have no use, and an A/C not used is more likely to have failed seals over time... and leak to the point of uselessness. If you are going to speak out, think a little harder next time.
I'm baffled how uninformed these guys are. Fiat bought over 50% of the Chrysler's stake from the US Treasury (remember auto bailout?) in July 2011. Dodge Dart was actually built to give more stake to Fiat from Chrysler as it is built mostly by Fiat. And yes, the brand new Viper is owned by Fiat as well.
Insulting? I've driven a vintage 1971 Charger 426 and a 2011 with the 5.7L HEMI, nostalgia and noise aside the modern one is so vastly superior in every conceivable way it's not even funny. Way more power for a given engine size and infinitely better brakes & handling. And don't even mention the malaise-era Charger...
160 hp isnt that good? does this guy know that most cars have less than that? Also the older wrx's had near that much and competed with stock engines in WRC. I also have a stock rs (gc6) and it has 165 and I can get it to 145mph. FTW
I'm not going to continue trying to explain my point of view. What's so difficult about coming up with a whole new name, for what is CLEARY a whole new car? You don't have a problem with calling a dog a horse, so their is no point in going any further.
Not sure if that was a trick question or not...who do I think I am? Well somone who just has an opinion on ppl who drive Mts and ATs.... i put it in a nice way because the rest of the world has some harsher things to say about americans and our ATs. I drive both so yes at times if i dont want to be bothered i go with the AT . But if you don't live in a traffic jam prone area then they are fun to drive and not a lot of shifting is necessary. Preference and opinion.I have mine and you have yours.
this car is just a freakin 2013 neon str 4 basicly. Hardly ground breaking. I just looked up the car with everything that would make it a nice car to drive and for 3 grand more id rather take a loaded Subaru BRZ thats rear wheel drive and much more fun with a nicer interior.
what is it about NA cars and fuel economy? they still can't beat the asian cars. The base elantra beats this car in fuel economy by a combined 4 Mpg's. You would think they would get better at this by now considering the fuel prices. I would choose an elantra over this car hands down
Dont worry dodge srt fans. Give it a few more months till the release of the 2014 dart srt4... So until then im waiting to buy on... 300HP turbo sounds good to me...
I actually just looked at one yesterday. It had all options, but I was actually shocked that I was sitting in a dodge. The interior was insanely comfortable.
A Dart wagon would be a nice thing to see in the states.
he said 160hp isnt enough in the real world? i have a 118hp truck that weighs more with a outdated 5 speed. its definitely enough. Us Americans are just power hungry ;)
I wish someone would take a 2.0, & a 1.4 turbo, & a 2.4 to the track & lets see how they really compare !
1:50 Anyone notice the dead bug?
To each their own. Personally I think it looks far better than most compacts out there.
WTF. Has trouble written all over it
We're in the 21st century... and the dart doesn't come with AC?!?!?! WTF!
Mr. Blanchette seems to be an outstanding video producer... kudos to him! Great video AG.
I wanted one with the 1.4T and 6-speed manual. However, there feels like there's a slight delay in the electronic throttle (NOT turbo lag, which I expected), this combined with the very light clutch that had no touch-point feel, made shifting an exercise in frustration. Picking up a 2013 black dart today. Tow yard deal 1200$wow.
The engine bay is surprisingly clean.
Covered and not too busy.
Can someone please explain to me why when I went to the dealer and looked over the list and avail options for the dart. Out of all the configurations there wasn't a sunroof option? I'm baffled. Thanks

Is there going to be a hatchback version in the US?
pretty good review. I would love to see a mazda 3 skyactiv vs the 1.4l turbo dart review...I'm considering one of those two cars...maybe the cruze or focus.
no thats on the hwy....the 2013 altima will get 27city 38hwy while the 300 and charger only get 19 city 31hwy
I really like the Dart. I optioned one out on the website with navigation, premium sound, 6-speed manual, etc. and came to $22,235. Not bad at all! I like the 6-speed manual as opposed to the 5-speed of the Focus.
This is not a budget minded compact. Sounds like the base is well over other compacts. Is it's competition really smaller midsize? I think so.
I love this car, dodge did a nice job on the designing of this car.
There are some great curvy roads in the us, and quite a nice few in California and else where as well.

never was a fan of the neon, but i like this dart for some reason
that is a very good and fair review. good job man
Who do you think you are saying if someone is lazy or not because they don't like manual transmissions? The front look of the car reminds me of the Scion FR-S's front

I've never understood why their were ram branded dodge cars like the challenger and charger. can someone please answer that.
hell for most 6 cyliders thats alot. The old OHV 6's ford had only put out 150. Chevy 6's in their little trucks put out 130. the late 90's camrys and early 2000's only put out between 135 and 160. Is this front or rear wheel drive? Does anyone know?
AC isn't standard? what the hell?
4:14 where's the NOS? option?
Just bought a 2013 Dart Rallye. God, I'm in love.
yea... I just think it's a lot of fun. Yea on avg they get more gas mileage and you have to pay more attention the the road, I really like having control of accelerating the car and it's a lot of fun, uless you live in a crowded city then sometimes it's a pain! Def try it out! Good Luck! :)

What's the recall I got a dart
should have a v6 rear wheel drive option
There is a sunroof option.
Not where I live. I drive a stick and it is up the gears and down, no dancing with the pedals. The on and off ramps is it.
timing chain or belt?
Chrysler shoulda kept the NEON name and also kept the SEBRING name. I guess they changed names to make you think your getting something else. I drove the Multiair Turbo today. It's a better Neon.
i don't even drive yet but i really want to drive a manual in the future though.

Side note: you've got it backwards.
Fiat has a 61.8% stake of ownership in Chrysler. Fiat owns Chrysler(more or less), not the other way around.
good answer but that's bullshit, that's like saying if you live in Socal (which I do) cars shouldn't be sold with radios because its more appeasing to enjoy the nice weather and to just roll down the window and enjoy the sound of the road or if you live in the city enjoy all the action that LA has to offer
The car looks hot, and with a six speed manual, I got to check it out!
check out on google images dodge dart set its the yellow one

Nice Dodge Neon review, so where is the real Dodge Dart at?
I have to disagree. Unless you live in LA you pretty much should drive a manual. Every country but the US has them and it's sad that we are going away from them. You can teach anyone to drive a manual. Better control of the car and better gas... It's preference but sticks are awesome
everytime i look up the dart they review the most expensive model, has anyone done the standard se...
the doors and taillight design are clearly from the intrepid. why don't they stop being so sorry about how many angry customers they got with the engine sludge problem and start making it again? IT WAS A GREAT CAR AND STILL IS!!! we still have our 2001 se and it's been on countless trips from fl to mi and back. you just gotta show it some care and it won't let you down and it looks amazing for being a full sized family car. really, the intrepid line needs to be revived. put a viper engine in. :D
25 around town about 30 freeways in 5$ here is appreciated
Simply said, they are calling an apple an orange. It's a shame when customers have a higher appreciation for vehicles than the manufacturer does.
That is true, it is an Apples-to-Oranges comaprison, but I think peoples' aversion to the use of historic nameplates is a little weird. The Corvette and the Mustang are very long-running nameplates that are still around. The modern Corolla and Accord are also historic nameplates with little or no connection to their humble, compact, rear-drive ancestors.
you wont save any money when start looking at package comparisons. They are very similar n price once you break it down.
No idea where you're coming up with these MPG figures.
As long as it doesn't start falling apart at 50,000 kilometers like the Dodge Neon, this looks like a pretty good buy!
They didn't hold up😢
pretty much every car you're going to see on the lot will have A/C in it. I would be really surprised if they had the BASE model. No A/C even holds true with the Honda civic if you price a car out.
Have you ever been to america?
Thats true for the base model of most every car that car manufactures advertise. Pretty much paying for the body and the engine.
The brand isn't known for reliability because of mercedes benz taking advatage of chrysler several years ago, this is Fiat's work, this should be good.
I wonder why they didn't kept the name NEON??
That is nothing alike, and why you fail to make a response without swearing I can only wonder... A radio would still have use despite your preference for the city sights. Cranking the A/C in the winter is counterproductive in both fuel usage and keeping the cabin liveable. It can truly have no use, and an A/C not used is more likely to have failed seals over time... and leak to the point of uselessness. If you are going to speak out, think a little harder next time.
I love the looks and styling. I just want it to be faster
I would so get this over the Elantra. Looks much better in my opinion, and I gotta THANK Dodge for strongly using manual transmission!!!!!
i dont see why anybody would buy the 2 liter if the 1.4 makes same hp, more torque, better exhaust note, and better fuel economy
Fiat "bought" 35% of chrysler. Though Chrysler was already around way before fiat owned it so it doesnt mean fiat is affected by dodge and vise versa.
Judging by its size, it cant have more than 1.6-1.7 ton. (3200-3400 pounds). 160hp is alot for that...
Thr base car doesn't come with the signature dodge LED tailights either
if that grill was just a little bigger it would be awesome
Not sure if that was a trick question or not...who do I think I am? Well somone who just has an opinion on ppl who drive Mts and ATs.... i put it in a nice way because the rest of the world has some harsher things to say about americans and our ATs. I drive both so yes at times if i dont want to be bothered i go with the AT . But if you don't live in a traffic jam prone area then they are fun to drive and not a lot of shifting is necessary. Preference and opinion.I have mine and you have yours.
@TandemDawgBMG THANK U someone who understands the car world !
I like it. Great video by the way
I hear ya dude, only my luxury car that I have was made 50 years ago
This car's not really my thing but based on the market Dodge is going for, if they offer this in a coupe they'll make a killing off the car.
jeep chrysler and dodge are in one company or something does that mean that fiat owns chrysler and jeep?
this car is just a freakin 2013 neon str 4 basicly. Hardly ground breaking.
I just looked up the car with everything that would make it a nice car to drive and for 3 grand more id rather take a loaded Subaru BRZ thats rear wheel drive and much more fun with a nicer interior.
Unless on the off chance you don't need one. Some people live in cold enough places that they would save the cash.
p.s. let's not forget that it's because of Fiat that we know have a new Viper, and it's a true supercar now.
what is it about NA cars and fuel economy? they still can't beat the asian cars. The base elantra beats this car in fuel economy by a combined 4 Mpg's. You would think they would get better at this by now considering the fuel prices. I would choose an elantra over this car hands down
Wow dodge put a lot in this car ima go get it this weekend DODGE IS THE BEST!!!
@MacSaab93 HA! the elantra? no thank you...
Dont worry dodge srt fans. Give it a few more months till the release of the 2014 dart srt4... So until then im waiting to buy on... 300HP turbo sounds good to me...
