I just got to visit Scotland for the first time this year. My dad was a Campbell and always wanted to go. I spread some of his ashes there. I would love to go back when I have more time to explore! Thank you for this video
Excellent video!! Extremely educational!! I am descended from the Campbells, though I don't know which factions, as they are a vast clan, as you pointed out so skillfully. Loved it!! Thank You!!
Thank you so much for this video. It is the perfect video to sum up any information I have found about the Campbell Clan as well as giving me some I had not known.
Thank you, This is exactly how i want it to be, it would be hard job to cover all the clans thousand year history in one video, so if i can give people and insight along with new information, plus many clans histories overlap which means it does eventually get covered.
A few interesting bits and bobs there about the American Revolution. I'd heard about William Campbell who led the revolutionaries at Kings Mountain, but I'd never heard of those other guys. A great video though, and clearly very well researched. Hope you keep em coming. Many thanks.
Some Irish and Scottish clans I found connected to the battle of kings mountain were the , McGuires,Looneys,McClures,Doherty,Connelly,Roark,Neil,Coffey,Mahoney,Delaney,O’Brien,Callahan and many more
In Greenville county SC Campbell clan reproduced at an enormous rate in the early 1900s. So much so that most natives here now can draw a line to the Campbell name. I am no exception. My grandmother was Campbell. As was her 14 siblings. lol.
Awesome video! Ironically, I'm friends with a few Campbells myself 😂 Would be great to see my own family name (Grant) in the title of a video soon! Keep up the great work!
Since Campbell holdings are mostly in Argyle, and at 01:26, the ancestral lands are said to be in Argyle, wouldn't that point to a Gaelic origin in Dál Riata, instead of a Brythonic origin in Strathclyde?
I used to think so too, I thought the Brythonic claim was just part of the 19th/early 20th Briton/British Romanticism and propaganda but it this one seems correct according to recent research and DNA studies so its more likely that the early Brythonic Campbell ancestors just adopted the Gaelic culture of possibly thier overlords for a time which to be fair was very common at multiple time periods.
That's amazing history information on the campballs. My mother is a campball. And my father is a Johnstone. My father grandmother told me storys about our history of scotland. Could you do a video on the Johnstone clan. Keep up the great work 🏴🏴🏴
Thank you for another great video. It’s been awesome to see your channel grow my friend. I mentioned in a comment on another video of yours that I found out my great grandad was a Boland. Apparently the Bolands are either part of the Dalcassian Tribe or the Ui Feachrach dynasty. Do you mind doing a video on the Bolands or the Dalcassians in the future? Thank you!
Hey my friend, Thank you for being part of the journey aswell, i saw i did intend to message you but i was in the last few days of editing and it gets a bit stressful. I am going to try and alternate between Scotland and Ireland. I will be covering the Dalcassians very soon maybe not this next video but most likely the irish video after it.

If you ever get around to making a video about Clan Leslie, contact me. I've been studying the clan's origin for more than a decade and have a Bachelor's in history. The clan's origin is based in a legend that contradicts historical record, but all you'll find online is the legend. I'd be able to point you to places where you can find the actual historical record and more.
The Camerons are on the list, As for the battle of inverlochy he used his irish forces on the flanks while using the scottish units (Camerons) to punch through the Campbell lines, the Camerons routed the Campbells. If i can help with regards to your tweet earlier il happily give any information i have, i dont profess to know everything but i know enough.
I will, it will be a little while i have list of requests along with the videos ive planned myself, i intend to cover all the Clans/Families of Ireland and Scotland.
I think that Vivian Campbell , the exceptional guitarist , must be a member of the Clan , he's got that crooked mouth , although his overall appearance is very agreeable.
Thank you, i will try it's a long story, MacIvor is a patronymic name coming from the Gaelic 'Iomhar' with multiple unrelated branches the main lines lands in argyll were under the Campbell overlorship, The Campbells record that the line decended from the same line as the Campbells and MacTavishs which means if this theory is correct they most likely decended from the MacArthurs, often recorded as an illegitimate line of the family this statement is could be a latter ammendment as many parts of Scotland didnt follow traditional marriage and inheritance rights till the arrival of Norman/Flemish/Breton knights in the 12the century who brought a stricter version of feudalism than traditionally followed in Scotland this especially true in the Highland areas, Even if the origin theory is incorrect it was not uncommon for Scottish tennants to take the surname of thier overlord or if a Campbell took control of MacIvor lands or married an MacIvor heiress to adopt the name or double-barrell his name. As i said its a long one that i willl eventually do a video on, any questions i will try to answer it.
Can you plse turn down the background music, it's hard to hear you & concentrate on what you're saying. Trying to learn about my heritage. Very interesting!
I apologise it is something that has been brought to my attention and i hope the more recent videos do a better job, il hopefully remaster these soon for you.
Please do one on the MacIntyre's of Glen Noe. They were driven out of Scotland by the Campbell clan during the Highland Clearances. There's a very good reason the Campbell clan is considered by most of the remaining Scottish clans as a "stain" on Scotland's history.
The ‘Highland Clearances’ is really a bit of a misnomer in respect of the depopulation of the Scottish Highlands, many, myself included, take the view that most Highlanders were ‘economic migrants’. The Land of the Highlands is very poor & it was difficult to sustain a family. The Crofts were very small & the Taxes & Rents very big. Let’s not forget, many families were in servitude to there Clan Chiefs or Land Owners. For the most part, these migrants were educated, thanks to Parish Schools that were a big part of every Hamlet, Village & Town. These Schools were established & paid for by the British Government & the Presbyterian Churches. So you basically had educated individuals & ample opportunities in the New World. If you know the area, you’ll understand the close proximity to Loch Awe & Campbell territory. There’s never a justification for Landowners clearing their land, but the Legal implementation of removing people was brutal at times. However, history has proven that these migrants made the New World & indeed played a big part in the formation of the countries they settled in. Though like many, the MacIntyre Clan was displaced, many, many MacIntyre families still live & prosper in Argyll & Scotland. Please be objective in your views of these times & Clans. The Campbells, while less than squeaky clean, do get blamed for a lot of tyranny. The Campbells’ as our host has pointed out, know how to change loyalty for financial gain!!!
Thank you for getting back to me, ive seen that map, i dont use it mainly because i have found some discrepancies when ive compared it to my research, the vast majority could be correct but i wouldnt have time to compare each year on the maps so i prefer not to use it, although they are amazing and i am still a fan.
My mother was a McCorkle and when we trace back to an Archibald Alexander McCorkle who shows as son of Duncan Campbell born Duncan MacCorkle, I don't understand what happened there, but would love to know as that name shows up as a person who fled attack from MacDonalds.
Also, every time I hear "The MacCorquodales were one of the most ancient clans named for Thorketill who stealthily retrieved the head of King McAlpine from the Pictish." I never see MacCorquodales names pop up where lore says they should be and almost always the Campbell name is there instead until the civil wars of 1640's when McCorkle starts sprouting out of Campbell and boating across the pond to The New World in droves. I think it would make a great video if you can find out what happened there.
