  • I finally did it! Woohoo 🙌
    Lots of people have asked me if we can use the Boss Gigcaster and a looper at the same time, but still record the Looper as well.
    I figured out a solution and still be able to use the Gigcaster and its effects and your Looper.

    Great video! Thanks..I have one question. I have the gigcaster connected to my monitors..When I record I dont want the sound to come out of the monitors only through headphones. Now every time I have to turn them off ( that's sucks) because otherwise nothing has been recorded. Which setting is wrong? So I want to mute my main output for the monitors but still be able to record to SD card..hope my question makes sense..regards from Holland..

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK

      You don’t have a setting wrong.. it’s the way it’s setup which is something I hope they change.
      You can monitor pre fade by going to the output settings but if you are recording, even if you change audio settings, the SD card records post fade from the tracks and even the main output.. which I think is weird.
      So for now, you’ll have to stick with turning off the monitors unless a firmware update changes that (hope it does).

    will this mixer work on an rc600 for mic, guitar and keyboard?

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK

      Yes. 👌
      You have two options. Option number one plug the instruments into the RC 600 and use the outputs to plug into the mixer. then the output of the mixer would go to the PA or speaker. However, this means depending on how you route the outputs to the mixer, you might not be able to use the effects in the GigCaster.
      Option two is to plug all your instruments into the gigcaster and then use the method in this video to send it out to the RC 600, however this then could create an issue regarding routing from the RC 600 back to the gig caster, but it can be done.

    Hi John, thank you always for your precious videos about Boss products. I wanted to ask you a question: I also recently purchased a Ve 500 for vocals, but I had the impression that the compressor present in the Rc-600 is superior to that of the Ve-500. Furthermore, again in relation to the Ve 500, I believe that the pitch correction is a little imprecise and that perhaps the only excellent thing is the Harmony section which seems to me better than the Rc-600. Precisely for this reason I would like to sell this machine and keep only the Rc-600. Do you have any suggestions about this?

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK

      I can’t let go of my Tc-helicon Voicelive play because of harmony. The RC-600 only has harmony by midi or setting a key, it doesn’t have natural play or auto key harmony, which is a shame. Also be careful if you are using your VE-500 and then applying compression to that, especially if there are effects like reverb etc.. might make it sound weird. But yes the comp on the 600 is good.
      I would have the VE-500 and the RC-600 together and married up via midi so when you make a loop, the VE-500 pics up on the tempo and matches the bpm. 👍🏻

      Technically yes but you can always record to SD card and then you have either a stereo or multi track recording in 32-bit for post production.

    Thanks for the video JP and here a question: I want to use it to record live two rc505 mk2 in sync with each other getting both stereo outs from the loopers to the inputs 1,2,3,4 of the Gigcaster 8, it would be straight forward or wouldn’t work like that without a specific routing? As far as I understood would be the same as you did in there only difference all my instruments would be plugged on both Rc505mk2 inputs, guitar, bass, drum pad, synth and vocals then sending it all to be captured on the gigcaster 8 to be recorded as stereo signal. Is that makes sense? Please give me some light on it 🙏🏽☺️

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK

      Hey 👋
      So the reason the video exists is because I got asked how do we use the effects of the Gigcaster 8 to feed into the looper whilst recording the output of the looper as well.
      If you are looking to just record both RC505 Mark 2’s into the Gigcaster (the first looper is on Channel 1&2 and the second Looper is on Channel 3&4 ) then that is very straightforward.
      Make sure that you set the channel as stereo input. Therefore you would not use the physical faders two and four as fade one and fade three would control both stereos. If you don’t do this, then remember to pan the channels left and right as they are both centered monos You also have the option with the SD card to Record either in a stereo mix (2mix) or you could record in multitrack if you wanted to edit it later and have separate feeds from each looper. Bear in mind that you can take the USBC out to a device for recording video or live streaming, but it must be in 2mix.
      I hope all this Helps. 👍🏻

  • @lgovantes1

    Great video and unique technique! I am wondering why you chose this method? Don't you get more potential functionality (i.e. use of other inputs), if you route the output of the Gigcaster 8 to the input of the looper? This way you could loop pads, and computer input via USB, and even BT and phone. I am really curious because I now have both the GC8 and RC500. This way, I could even use another mic on the RC500 separately, right? Inquiring minds want to know!

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK

    Hey JP, good video ! Have you had any luck with using the harmonies on the Gigcaster 8 vs using the TC Helicon? Is there a way to manually provide the key on the Gigcaster similar to the RC600? Also do you use the RC600 and TC Helicon along with the Gigcaster for performing. I used another mixer for performing and just acquired the Gigcaster hoping it will do the job and more when connected to my pedalboard rig that includes a similar pedalboard setup that you’ve shared on TH-cam. Cheers, Gordon

      GC5 and TC Helicon owner here. I found the harmonies section on the GC wayyy better than on the helicon. And the customisation that you can do on the GC is mind blowing. TC Helicon doesn't even come close.

    • @gvc1000

      @@bharti91ankit Disagree, the harmonies are much better on the TC Helicon. The GC8 harmon requires you to choose a key and then if the harmony your singing falls outside of that key, it sounds terrible! Whereas the TC Helicon has both abilities to either preselect a key or what I find exceptional, is the option of the harmony following the guitar input chords that are played. The GC 5 or 8 does not do this and that’s why I still use my TC Helicon for harmonies!

    Ciao video molto interessante.

      Hello Paolo 👋
      The minimum sampling frequency at 48khz has an AD Conversion of 24 bits but at a DA conversion of 32 bit with 32 bit float processing. The minimum on your DAW would be down to how you select and which DAW. I am able to get down to 32sample with Logic Pro on my M1 Pro MacBook Pro.
      It is a true sound card and it has a USB audio of 20 input channels and 14 output channels.
      I can certainly use this online and I have live streamed with the unit at the same time as recording to the SD card in multi track.
      Hope this answers your questions

      @@JohnPaulMusicUK I see. But apart from the usual update shenanigans there is a multitude of hardware issues. The developers (and financial managers) don‘t seem to be able to read the signs of the time. People need a lot more sophisticated and well designed equipment. The price drop clearly shows that they missed that mark by a long shot. Roland/Boss is used to success. They will clearly have to up their game if they want to enjoy that feeling much longer.
