Because spending $40m on some random dude who had a good season in the championship doesn't actually make that player better than his $2m Venezuelan equivalent that Sevilla may pick up
Look at some of the players who have recently played in the Championship: Tomori, Mount, Abraham, Grealish Gyokeres, Scott to name a few. I think that statement is nonsense.
Premier league is popular because, aside from the massive marketing drive and it's language being English, it pulls in American and Asian spectators/fans way more than the other leagues. This is due to it's ability to grab a channel-flicker's attention who would usually change channel after 5 minutes of watching Spanish or Mexican players lump the ball from side to side jogging about. The pace of the PL games and the excitement it generates is a big reason so many watch it above other leagues
This PSG hatred is so much forced. PSG only has the 4th highest team value and that is with Mbappé that they will lose. This coment is posted on a video about english club who receive stupid amount of TV money every year, now even a small premier league club with no history is richer than most historical clubs in Italy, France, Germany or Spain. Big clubs in these country (not called Bayern, Madrid, Milan or Paris) lose their best players to PL clubs, can't buy good prospect because PL always has the highest bid, and even struggle to keep their best player against championships team now, the situation is out of hands, this is fucking ridicoulous, but the problem is PSG right ?

From 89-01, Serie A clubs were represented 21 times in 22 European finals, and thats excluding the UEFA Cup Winners Cup and the UEFA Intertoto Cup. A look into this period would good.
haven't looked at it but my mind says it was also a bunch of different teams aswell right? not like the same 4 clubs or something reaching those finals
I mean wasnt that just the time where Italy was the big spender of Europe instead of England or Spain? Like Maradona transfer, remember quite some big germans (mostly concentrating on them since im german) going to italy like Matthäus, Rummenigge, Klinsmann, Völler and more. Like the video would be 10 seconds long "they had the most money", maybe 2 minutes if you want to also show the reason why they had the most money
Oo good one. Dinamo Zagreb have had financial controversies, dodgy deals leading to Luka Modrić in court, but have a pretty well oiled winning machine otherwise. The thing is being badly run will always have its impact in the long term, so badly run clubs doing well now may inevitably be doing far less well in the long term
Inter Milan? Not sure about the specifics, but I remember they were on the brink of bankruptcy at the start of this season despite reaching the UCL final a few months ago.
@dudescrawny5859 I thought about them too (I am an Inter fan myself), but despite financial instability and not so great owners, club itself is quite well run as Don Marotta and Ausilio are doing absolutely fabulous job. The current success would be impossible without them
While its not the CL, Eintracht Frankfurt won the Europa League while finishing 11th in the Bundesliga, Sevilla last year had a similar campaign in the league.
I've always maintained and still maintain that a league trophy is a better indicator of how good a team is than a knockout competition. Couple things go your way you're a winner couple things don't you're second best. You need a lot more consistency in a 30+ league season
Neuer, Muller and Boateng were part of the 2013 winning UCL team. Lewa was by far their best player and Bayern signed him on a free from Dortmund in 2014. Goretzka was also signed on a free. Thiago signed for what was a very low fee even at the time from Barcelona in 2013 Then you have Davies and Alaba who were both academy graduates (so was Muller). Not to mention players such as Coutinho and Perisic who were both on loan as well Some of it was good business but a lot of it came down to the fact that the spine of that 19/20 team had already been there for years unlike Liverpool and Man City who went through a huge transition in the previous years or Chelsea who were in the middle of a transfer of both the squad and manager
It should also be said that in those 24 UCLs, out of the 18 that weren’t won by English clubs, 14 of them went to Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich who are among the few that can compete financially. I’d also argue that AC Milan’s win in 02-03 came when Serie A was still a financial powerhouse… so there are only really 3 anomalies.
@@Kxngaaron That’s incorrect. The last 24 UCL campaigns includes the ‘99-‘00 season or it would only be 23. They won in 2000, 2002, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2022. In this 24 campaign period you have RM on 7, Barca on 4, and Bayern on 3. 14 in total.

Spanish, Portuguese and German clubs are tactically very good and coached well. I hate the PL clubs excuse that it's a 'harder league' which makes the clubs more fatigued in Europe. Serie A clubs were by far the best sides and made the finals most years from 1989 - 1998.
Shouldn't make too much difference. EPL best sides in early to mid 2000s (Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle, Leeds) were as good as anyone in Europe yet still were not very dominant and were playing weaker sides in the EPL back then. The lower ranked sides have improved, but the best sides I'd argue have only very marginally got better.
6 different English clubs have won the European Cup/Champions League. More than any other country. That's not counting the 5/6 year ban. Most European leagues were broke when Serie A was dominating. That's why the EPL was formed to compete with Serie A financially. And it's surpassed Serie A for 20+ years.
It is harder, la liga is shit being dominated by Madrid and Barcelona who begin resting their players for Europe in februray because it's a crap league.
It's because the UCL itself is a dumb competition, this year champion should play like a world cup tournament after season end. Why play next season? Contract expired, injuries, momentum, some managers fired etc Why not this year champion play at 5 years later tournament 😂😂
So many excuses for bad management of the teams. Dortmund is 5th in the League and in the CL finals. It comes down to mindset and English teams often seem to lack to at the highest level.
bit if the best player are only affordable for 4-5x clubs all over Europe? You do not want to see how money works in Football, you rather post something unbelieveable stupid on the internet for the whole world to see :D :D :D
@@DIN_A8 Being able to afford one of the best players doesn't mean that a club actually can sign one of those players. Money is one part of it but it is not everything. Otherwise everyone would want to go to Saudi Arabia. But not everyone goes there so there are obviously other things at play as well. And make no mistake, players still get a shitload of money at clubs outside of SA.
Money is everything… you guys need to stop being gaslit. Of every European club had the same resources and everyone the same wages, it would look much different. Why would anyone move to Manchester if not for money, if they could live at the ocean, in historic Rome or the most liveable city in the world Vienna? lol
@@DIN_A8 Money plays a huge role but not the only one. Most players still want to be in a competitive league, have the possibility to win important trophies, play for their national teams and if possible live in a nice environment. Otherwise everyone would want to go to Saudi Arabia. But that's not the case.
At the end of the day, only one team can win and it takes a lot of luck to win in Europe, not panicking and staying in the game. West Ham were not the best team in the final last year, but, with luck on their side, they won. Man City only beat Inter 1-0. Fine margins.
Another impact of the Heysel ban was that, since English clubs weren't competing in Europe, the league's UEFA coefficient fell to 0, so even when the ban was lifted, they had fewer European berths than they otherwise would have done. It took until the mid-90s for England to build up enough coefficient points to max out their UEFA Cup berths, and until 2001-02 to get the four Champions League places that we're now so accustomed to having. So it wasn't just that the other Big Five leagues were tactically ahead of England during the 90s, they also simply had more bites of the cherry than England did.
It's not quite that simple, because UEFA coefficient points are cumulated over a 5-year period, not lifetime. So by 1996, any points the PL lost by not taking part in European competitions over 1985-91 were wiped out.
Well the Champions League also expanded in the late 90s and then again in the early 2000s. It was much smaller when it first changed to that name. So originally if you won your league you qualified. Manchester United actually hit the ground running in Europe winning the cup winners cup against Cruyff's Barcalona (1991). Barca would win the champions league the next year. United finished 5th in Division 1 that season (Arsenal dominated Division 1 that year losing 1 game and conceeding 18 goals, surprisingly shipping 6 at home in the league cup to Man United both playing strong sides). Arsenal would win the cup winners cup competition in 1994 (having done a domestic cup double in 1993) and Chelsea in 1998. So of a possible 24 European competitions after readmission (not counting the super cup) English teams won 4 trophies in the 90s. The UEFA cup being the worst performing competition for English teams. We also have to remember that until the late 90s there were foreigner restrictions in European competition that did not apply to English domestic league football, although they did have such rules in other leagues. So Rep Irish, Nor Irish, Welsh and Scots players were considered foreign for English clubs. Currently the rule is that if you were at club for 3 years when under a certain age you are home grown. So for example Ryan Giggs and Roy Keane were foreign, but with current rules Giggs would be home grown at club and Keane would be home grown at England, for being at Nottingham Forest for the required formative years.
I always loved to watch the Prem, for many many year. German here btw. For 2 years now I mainly watch the German, Spanish and Portuguese League. It feels more like football to me, when it comes to the whole package. The Prem lost it's magic.
I'm English and loving Leverkusen in the Bundesliga and I like that you watch the primera liga, i tell ya the Portuguese league is underrated, you have 4 top clubs in the league and 3 of them are challenging for the title every season and they have along with France the best youths in Europe playing in their league
You cannot like the rotten corrupt la liga for sure. If there is anything worse than the premier league it's clubs like Madrid and Barcelona run by criminals like Perez.
@@deanslife1 I am currently living in Portugal. If you see the population of the country, the amount of talent they produce is remarkable. Also talents get play time. On the other hand you have the PL with Man City that broke fair play rules for over 100, without any repercussions.

Yes, absolutely. And remember at the time there was only ONE club allowed per league, 2 were only allowed if an Italian club managed to win the CL as well, and that too only from 1996-97. Imagine Serie A in its pomp with 3-4 representatives in the CL, most likely Juve/Inter/AC every season.

I remember a video from the aftermath of the 2012 Champions League Final which sums up the situation: After Chelsea beat Bayern in the most dramatic circumstances, a Chelsea fan came out of the stadium beaming and his first words were: "now Tottenham are out of the Champions League" Not "We are Champions of Europe" or anything like that, but the fact they had demoted fourth placed Spurs to the Europa League. For me that shows that English clubs are always trying to beat their domestic rivals rather than aim for European glory
Exactly you actually have to win your lead to get in it and not just be fourth best and it was a straight knockout competition no group stages way more exciting and unpredictable
9:32 minor correction: Barca did not win The Treble in 92 as they lost to Valencia in the cup. In fact, United in 99 became the first club from the big 5 to win The Treble
Minor minor correction: United 1999 became the first club from the top 4 to win the League FA Cup European Cup Treble. Liverpool 1984 won the League League Cup European Cup Treble.
Its not an english thing only though. Some teams from other leagues still dont take uel and uecl seriously. Just look lazio last season vs this one as one example but you can find much more of them. And i think another reason why epl teams are not as dominant as they could be is that financial disparity matters less if clubs charge 2 or 3 times more when epl comes for a player. Antony is great example for that. In the same year another club wanted him and price was reasonable. But as soon as man united wanted him the price skyrocketed. Its pretty insane actually
The EFL Cup should be "The EFL Cup" and not include Premier League Teams at all; Just the 72 English Football League Clubs! This would allow Championship Clubs an actual chance at WINNING a Cup each season whilst reducing the number of games EPL Clubs are expected to play each season!
@@youngholiday2177 Like Hell it does! I'd guess that the real chance of an actual trophy for the clubs in the Championship would certainly generate extra tickets for those clubs. Imagine next year a final between Cardiff City and Burnley.
What is the point in making a national cup that’s closed to the first division? Furthemore, doing this just reinforces the marketing lie that the PL wants: namely that the PL is wholly separate from the lower divisions. It’s all one pyramid.
Some people support all their country’s club teams whenever they play in Europe, I personally don’t with the Premier League. I naturally want to support an underdog, and not super wealthy clubs owned by Saudi Arabia or oligarchs etc. So I’m more than happy to see most English clubs like Man City or United fail in Europe

england buying players well above their actual value also artificially boosts the view on the league. Especially when players transfer in the premier league. To break it down: the estimated player value of the whole premier league is currently 11 billion EUR, while the second biggest Laliga is currently only 5 billion EUR. There is absolutely no way that the gap in quality between these 2 leagues is that big. Premier League is overall the strongest league, but not that much better as everyone believes them to be.
Simple: except for Liverpool, other top PL clubs aren't run well at all. Just look at Inter, I swear if any PL team had the same budget Inter had over the last three seasons, they wouldn't even have gotten into UCL spots in Serie A: however, Marotta and Inzaghi were able to acquire fantastic players for free that no-one cared about ('cause they weren't the "80mln generational talent" or "the next ..." or shit like that) that suited a predefinite project and style of play, and there you have now a team that is one of the main candidates for UCL and that is destroying its league, while being put at the same level of Real Madrid. PL teams care much more about spending too much for players whose value is not the money spent rather than building a stable and well run football project with players suiting that project itself
@@laoch5658 as a football club? Yes they are. They increased their value by 3 billion dollars in just like 15 years and won almost everything without nearly spending as much as other PL clubs. So yeah they are the exception

Pep and Arteta do not coach Spanish flair football, Klopp relies on intensity and spirit, counter to German footballing philosophy of control Nationality has nothing to do with the way you coach.

There is no Shame in English clubs having won less trophies than Madrid Barça juve or Bayern. This argument would make sense if a one Girona frequently appeared in there. Also don't underestimate the point of not valuing the Europa league coz even UEFA itself didn't value it until of recent
Direct comparison between the leagues' income ignores a few important points in this. As an example, Real Madrid and Barcelona, due to the way La Liga is setup and each team manages its own tv rights, get most of the money that their league makes which is much more than the rest in the league. They make more than any English club. PL is more based on American leagues, so the league sells the rights and makes the money, and then contributes it between teams.
The best players tend to play for Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich because of there history and who they are and even PSG seems more appealing to the best players than the Premier league does
Some thoughts: 1) Manager wise, England lags far behind other countries, especially Spain (although of course the rich EPL clubs have the money to recruit most of those Spanish managers.) 2) Thank god there is still the Bundesliga, where the entire league and its teams haven't been sold to the highest bidder. It's been really heartening to see the power of collective action overcoming the greed of the wealthy. Even though it will probably make Bundesliga teams even less competitive in Europe than they are now, it will be well worth it.
If Real Madrid didn't exist, the EPL's position in the Champions League the last 7 years would be absolutely hegemonic. But Real Madrid does exist, they are a rich club, they have been very well run, they are THE destination club in world football, and they have a habit of finding a way to win games they probably shouldn't.
I think the standard of coaching in the EPL is really low. Apart from Guardiola, Klopp and maybe De Zerbi or Arteta, I think most managers are just ok. Take a look at Arsenal last week against Porto, complete tactical domination from Porto, not a single shot on target and yet in the EPL they keep scoring 4, 5 or 6 goals. Maybe it's all the money... managers sometimes grow through adversity.
Not disagreeing with the point, but also different when you play epl teams all the time and only play other European clubs ever now and then with different style of play. Sports can be similar to fights, literally anything can happen to anyone in one match
Correct. Also period of 2005-2012 had at least one English finalist (8 EPL teams out of 8 finals, 3 winners). Only the best ever Barca team prevented 2-3 other wins.
It all goes down to those 90 minutes on the pitch and more often than not in the last 20 years Spanish clubs were better than English clubs on the pitch when they met in European competitions , simple as that.
2 data points don’t constitute a trend. This Arsenal team is only in their 2nd European season. Inexperience usually results in early exits for most teams. That’s the only historial trend that would be displayed if Arsenal get eliminated by Porto.
There is only one British club that has truly dominated in Europe and that is liverpool in the late 70s and 80s when they won 4 European cups in 7 years, winning the uefa Cup in-between, they went 15 years without a single trophyless season. Easily the most dominant force British football has every produced. At one point liverpool had 18 league titles in England and the next team had 8 league titles.
You just put out that 7 best debut seasons that i just watched now this so quick! Good work Alfie with the amount of content quality and quantity wise!
Arabs, Russian oligarch, American billionaires,TV money. I love the way it is in Germany. 75 % of Bayern Munich is owend by the club,no debt at all and still one of the biggest and most successful clubs in the world.
There is also, I think in small part, an explanation found in possibly the most dominant period of football for Spain as a country and La Liga from about 2008 to 2018, where Barcelona, Real Madrid and Spain in general ran world football. Very few teams managed to beat them mentally, financially or on the pitch. I think only since the sale of Neymar and Ronaldo as well as the aging/retirement of that Spanish squad have things started to change towards the rest of Europe.
Last 5 years though Prem has had 6 finalists and 3 winners and the 4 other teams were one from each of Germany, Spain, France and Italy - two of those finals were all-England finals! What’s that if it’s not dominance?
They don’t win in Europe because Spanish teams beat them in every final . From 2002 onwards . It doesn’t matter which is the better “ quality “ league . Spanish teams know how to win finals. Premier league arrogance can go to hell
I think it would have been nice to compare the Premier League/European football to the Brazillian Serie A/South American football. In SA Brazil has the richest league by far, and dominates continental competitions. However, there are significant differences to England. First, SA has many fewer countries, so Brazil gets 7-8 teams to qualify for the Libertadores, which makes it very likely one of them wins the competition (has happened in the last 5). Second, even the biggest opposition in SA are not as rich as most brazillian teams (maybe River and Boca, but they aren't very good right now). Some cool things to notice is that Brazillians can also very much win the Libertadores while being 5th, 6th, or 7th in the league (Fluminense just did that), because the league is so competitive. Another funny thing is how Ecuadorians usually beat Brazillians in finals.
Real Madrid are the only Spanish team to even reach the UCL final in EIGHT years. 4 different EPL clubs, 3 English winners, 2 all English finals, and 7 finalists since 2018-2023.
I think what makes the Premier league so huge is the fact that in the mid/late 90s they started televising around the world even in the smallest of countries and third world countries. I grew up watching English Premier League in South Africa. So the following was installed in us and even now most would rather watch EPL over any other league due to the rivalry and tribalism that was created over the years.
i think that Premier league have the worst directors in Europe , they overvalue any player , in particular those that play in England . it is not only how many money you have to spend , but how you manage them . Brighton sold two middle level players like cucurella and martinez for like 200Milions . So if you are inflating the prices , you are overvaluing the worth of a team , you are not rising the level of the clubs . thinking that a premier league club is better just because they spend more is ridiculous . inter was finalist last year , but ended 4th ( before the penalization of juventus ) , so it is not so an EPL singularity . in Italy it is very rare that a team the can win UCL final will win national title . " I have never seen a bag full of money score a goal " ( Johan Crujff )
After 2 months there is no English team in any European finals. They only are the biggest with respect to spending money on players that are one season wonders half of the time.
I gotta admit, as a Bundesliga Fan i also was of the opinion that yeah English clubs suck (more than just their European results) but this actually was very informative

@@Ninja-gt3ziLa Liga is better than the EPL. Even though they have less money, they play better tactically and the players have better technique. EPL has great athletes running aimlessly like chickens with their heads cut off.
this video didn't age well. also doesn't explain why serie a (which is much more competitive than pl in terms of disparity) teams walk over english teams in europe when they have that same mentality (of placing domestic before continental). the reason english teams don't do well in europe is because pl teams play like u10s in other countries. it's a bunch of boys chasing a ball around. no tactics, no awareness of what's happening off the ball, easily overloaded, an attacking mentality with no actual plan for attacking. pl fans call this style of play fast paced and physically intense and say it's more exciting. Everyone else sees it as 22 headless chickens on a small field. it is beyond annoying to hear english media talk about how their 10th place teams would win other leagues when pl's top four teams don't even know how to play the game the english created. klopp introducing geigenpress to england is an example of this. 10 years behind the rest of the continent. and guardiola's fluid roles dominating england is another example of this. tactically, english teams are 10-20 years behind the rest of europe and their arrogance leads them to have no desire to improve.
People don't really understand how weak the Premier League was between 2010 and 2018. The league was only competitive because the top teams were so poor.
2011, Man U beaten in CL final by best ever Barca team; 2012, Chelsea won the CL. Only 2013-2017 were bad really. Without the European ban English domination would have extended into the late 80’s and we’d prob have most wins in the main European competition.
Premier league money comes from its sellabilty around the globe, mainly in the far east. Few people in these countries speak Spanish or German or Italian. They do however have a pretty decent grasp on English because of Hollywood and US culture being the dominant culture on the planet. So the EPL is the greatest league in the world only because of the successful imperialist invasion of North America during the 17th century. Thank you indigenous people of the American north and sorry.
The competitive nature of the PL, the extra games and the higher intensity of the football no winter break over the years also means by April Eglish team players are exhausted.
2014 called, they want their excuses back as you've been making abusive use of them. And having far bigger financial resources as well as better players should cancel out those effects from tiredness, intensity etc.
Its because the biggest difference in money isnt by the top clubs in the leagues, like English top clubs dont spend that much more than Real Madrid, Bayern, PSG etc. The big difference is between the middle to lower part of the table teams like Nottingham and Bournemouth spend compared to what Cadiz, Empoli and Bochum spend. Edit: I wrote this before watching the rest of the video and he is exactly right
A. very intersting video. CHeers for that. An interesting sidenote: in Germany, wgen bayern struggled passing the quarter. or semi finald reglarly, one of the arguments given is that because they have their league wrapped up by April, they. lose their competitive focus/edge and struggle to turn it back on in big European matches.
If Alex Ferguson had anything near Boely's Chelsea Financial Backing he would have definitely won more Champions Leagues like if Ferguson had left Man UTD and maybe joined Real Madrid, Pep wouldn't have dominated La Liga like he did... He had no chance against that 2011 Barca Team with Man UTD, he needed an equally good Team... like he was literally shaking in the 2011 Final like he thought maybe it was gonna be a Record thrashing in a Final. 2007-08 Man UTD was just a glimpse of what Fergie could achieve with truly Elite Players, Smalling, Cleverly, Jones and Welbeck were maybe good enough for the Prem but in Europe against the Ac Milan's and Bayern's they're bang average. That 2013 Man UTD game against Real Madrid you felt like if he had a Bale in his team or a Modric he would have beaten Real Madrid.
I think there are other reasons why which cause this situation: 1- Most premier league teams buy players for ridiculous amounts of money, and these players do not worth it. The club owners, most of the cases are US and Middle East millionaires that do not have a real plan for the team. In many cases, they just want to see a growth in their investment and sell it to have a high profit. Example: Manchester United. In other cases, believe that buying lot of good players without a plan will make the difference. Example: Chelsea 2- There is a King in Europe: Real Madrid. The organization of the club, the structure of the team, how this team is designed to win in any circumstances, the culture of the clubs the pasión of their players, that’s a big challenge! No one can equal what they have done. Bellingham went to Real Madrid refusing higher amounts of the premier. Why? Just looking for glory. And that can’t be purchased.
I usually love your content, but this time around, I think you're largely falling into the EPL apologist's trap. I liked the graph about the more even distribution of funds, and I liked the fact you pointed out that the other winners all have similarly sized piles of cash as English teams, but you lost me at "English teams don't care", and "English teams have it so hard at home". On the former, yes, English teams will rest players in Europe, because winning on the weekend isn't guaranteed... but it really isn't guaranteed in most other leagues either. In a league where the likes of Man City get 90 points, you can make the claim that City doesn't really have to worry if they're playing their B-team against Norwich, Luton or Sheffield - which they do just as well. Now, Liverpool did play second stringers in Europe this year, true largely due to an injury crisis, but the argument ought to be, if you have all that money, maybe just maybe have a large enough team with sufficient quality everywhere to be competitive in all those competitions you compete in. Instead, you see quite a bit of mismanagement in English football - Chelsea and Man Utd being the obvious recent cases. What we should see is English teams, Real, Bayern, and PSG regularly rotate who wins. What you see is PSG making excuses for not being challenged enough domestically, and then not being ready to live up to the occasion when challenged in Europe... all the while the English teams giving us the opposite excuse. And that's it, it's an excuse. This year alone, City was unlucky against Madrid, Liverpool played second stringers, Arsenal wasn't nearly as good as everyone in England makes them out to be, Man Utd and Newcastle were bottom of their groups, Aston Villa just got blown out by minnows, and West Ham got outplayed by Leverkusen (who to be fair, outplay everyone this year). That's not coincidence.
Well, you can come up with any excuses you want, but the fact is that money doesn't buy good football. PSG is the biggest proof, but English football in Europe is also a big example. Having all the best players and paying loads of money doesn't mean you play good football. Running a lot and playing rough is not exactly playing well.
Probably the same reason England doesn’t dominate world football. As great as the PL is and England is in football it’s still incredibly overstated and over valued
@@stewartrickert Yeah, premier league is a pretty good league. Not the best, but they got some "level." But what does it have to do with (PL) Poland? They are meh in football, 26th. English ppl don’t realise that yes PL is the most financially established league but it isn’t the best technical league. That’s pretty evident in champions league and other euro competitions. they are way behind on football tactics and the only reason they are catching up is because of German and Spanish managers
This is flat out untrue, the most tactically impressive and best managers are premier league managers and have been for some time now, Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp, Mikel Arteta, Ange Postecoglu are arguable the 4 best managers on the planet and all manage in the premier league, along with other great managers. Yes the Bundesliga is great too and have good managers, same with other leagues of course, but the prem is so far and away the best league, the best teams on the planet over the past 6 or so years have been two premier league teams, Liverpool and City. Other leagues have good managers too for sure, Julian Nagelsmann, Sebastian Hoeness, Michel, Ancelotti, Tuchel, Inzaghi, Amorim, but the premier league is where the best players are, the best managers, the best overall teams. The technical ability and tactical setup is the best in the premier league, the pressing, the intesity, everything.
The competition is stronger throughout the league. Most seasons In spain you have 6 or 7 decent teams most years, In germany yo have 5ish, Italy is a bit stronger with about 8 or 9. Whereas if we look at england there is at least 15 strong teams every season.
@@matt4198 Especially this season in England. About 5 teams are good enough to win the title this year and it's such a crazy competition. basically every team bar Burnley, Sheffield and Palace are a solid team and play fantastic and give everyone a run in every game.

He should have changed his name to Paul or something simple then he “could” have won.
It's because the league is so competitive that teams in European comps can't rest their best players like Madrid, psg, Munich etc can, the weekend before Euro match week. Also, Newcastle is a bad example, they were in a group with 2 semi finalist (1 will be a finalist) so it was the group of death

Serie A clubs were by far the best sides and made the finals most years from 1989 - 1998.
This EPL is probably more deep that any pre 2000s league
Shouldn't make too much difference. EPL best sides in early to mid 2000s (Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle, Leeds) were as good as anyone in Europe yet still were not very dominant and were playing weaker sides in the EPL back then. The lower ranked sides have improved, but the best sides I'd argue have only very marginally got better.
Coaching May have been an issue in the past but surely you’re not suggesting that still.
6 different English clubs have won the European Cup/Champions League. More than any other country. That's not counting the 5/6 year ban. Most European leagues were broke when Serie A was dominating.

Meanwhile in 2023, Russia gets 4.333 coefficient points every season while not even participating 😕
It's not quite that simple, because UEFA coefficient points are cumulated over a 5-year period, not lifetime. So by 1996, any points the PL lost by not taking part in European competitions over 1985-91 were wiped out.
@@oldskoolmusicnostalgia True, but they would have accumulated fewer points over the five seasons from 1991-1996 by virtue of having fewer entries

“Tactical difference’s” you guys have every coach nationality possible in your league
Pep and Arteta do not coach Spanish flair football, Klopp relies on intensity and spirit, counter to German footballing philosophy of control
Nationality has nothing to do with the way you coach.
@@karlcs901 still, my point is that you guys have the best managers in football at the moment, the most money out of all the clubs in Europe (with little exceptions) and say something like this is a cheap excuse, the ban could have affected you 10/15 years ago tactically, but now with all type of coaches in your league, with money to buy almost everyone from anywhere is a cheap excuse to say that premier leagues teams are not so advanced in tactics, you guys should be the teams to beat every season and you’re not with the exception of last year that you guys dominated Europe (but like I said, with all of your resources would have been embarrassing to lose)

@@jorgeromano6506but again these English clubs compete against the so called exceptions not the rest of the majority.
The best players tend to play for Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich because of there history and who they are and even PSG seems more appealing to the best players than the Premier league does
Who the hell would want to live in England when you can get the same or more money and live in Madrid, Barcelona or Paris?
Liverpool have a more storied and successful history than Barca and Bayern, in a more competitive league.
That's because it's easy to stat-pad in those dead leagues. Just look and Kane's numbers in Bayern.
Its the weather in england. Lots of people really dont like it. I've heard it called as "depressing".
Some thoughts:
1) Manager wise, England lags far behind other countries, especially Spain (although of course the rich EPL clubs have the money to recruit most of those Spanish managers.)
2) Thank god there is still the Bundesliga, where the entire league and its teams haven't been sold to the highest bidder.
But Real Madrid does exist, they are a rich club, they have been very well run, they are THE destination club in world football, and they have a habit of finding a way to win games they probably shouldn't.
now it's crazier, with no english team left in the champions and europa league
Emery?!?!?!
Yet arsenal went through 😅
It's a BS. In the last 5 CL's finals there were 6 participants from PL, no other country have even 2.
Correct. Also period of 2005-2012 had at least one English finalist (8 EPL teams out of 8 finals, 3 winners). Only the best ever Barca team prevented 2-3 other wins.
@@A.US.ter1 Being second to another team is NOT "dominating". And if it is the same team over and over again you are dominated by them.
Jajaja bro what happend the 5 previous years? 5 consecutive wins from Spanish clubs, also in 2022 and maybe this year
It all goes down to those 90 minutes on the pitch and more often than not in the last 20 years Spanish clubs were better than English clubs on the pitch when they met in European competitions , simple as that.
watching this after liverpool, west ham, manchester city and Arsenal being out of european competition hits hard.
Sporting knocked out Arsenal last year in Europa and if Porto knocks them out this year, that isn’t random, that’s a trend
English clubs won a combined total of 7 European cups in 8 years during the 1976-1984 period.

4:00 There is nothing more blissful than when Alfie says “sit back, relax, and join me…”
what about “(…)on a journey to [insert place name]. Where we take a look on(…)”
There is also, I think in small part, an explanation found in possibly the most dominant period of football for Spain as a country and La Liga from about 2008 to 2018, where Barcelona, Real Madrid and Spain in general ran world football.
To be fair, Newcastle only went out and finished bottom if their group due to an incorrect referee and VAR decision in Paris.
Real Madrid are the only Spanish team to even reach the UCL final in EIGHT years. 4 different EPL clubs, 3 English winners, 2 all English finals, and 7 finalists since 2018-2023.
Let's be honest. The Premier League just don't have the best clubs. They actually do have the most big clubs, but not the best.

You should tell that to my football manager save
this video didn't age well. also doesn't explain why serie a (which is much more competitive than pl in terms of disparity) teams walk over english teams in europe when they have that same mentality (of placing domestic before continental). the reason english teams don't do well in europe is because pl teams play like u10s in other countries. it's a bunch of boys chasing a ball around. no tactics, no awareness of what's happening off the ball, easily overloaded, an attacking mentality with no actual plan for attacking. pl fans call this style of play fast paced and physically intense and say it's more exciting.
You jealous your league is dead?
Only durinf Leicester years was it crap. 2010 it was not crap
in 2015 they had no teams in the QFs of either UCL or UEL! Crazy underachieving
@@TFB97 Spanish league isn't dead, Girona were top of the table for half the season.
@@oldskoolmusicnostalgia they’re not excuses they’re the reality of the cost of having the most entertaining league in the world.
Same story with Juventus who also won 10 in a row. Man City are starting to dominate in England.
Do a video ranking every world cup winning team
I think there are other reasons why which cause this situation:
1- Most premier league teams buy players for ridiculous amounts of money, and these players do not worth it. The club owners, most of the cases are US and Middle East millionaires that do not have a real plan for the team. In many cases, they just want to see a growth in their investment and sell it to have a high profit. Example: Manchester United.
In other cases, believe that buying lot of good players without a plan will make the difference. Example: Chelsea
2- There is a King in Europe: Real Madrid.
That's not coincidence.
yes, it is back, I'm so happy!!!
Juggling a very competitive league with europe is tough.
