Apparently Cynder's sudden change in colors from black to dark purple in Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon was the result of the game’s broken render and outdated game engine. In addition, the EL game director chose Cynder's design that had the dark purple colors as well, despite characters in the game still calling her a black dragon. So I used a Spyro fan modder’s methods to add in Cynder's intended correct colors, and they turned out rather well. To get and/edit other textures beside Spyro and Cynder’s, you have to download an online copy of Dawn of the Dragon. I also used the rpcs3 emulator to play it.

I actually have a theory on why he color changed in the 3 years they were in the amber. She was close to spyro who is unique to put it lightly. Her exposure to him for that long could have changed her making her scales dark purple.

I once theorized for fun that she could be another purple dragon of legend like him like a special case. How come the other characters maintain most of their main colors but not Cynder? XD Since the lore of the Purple Dragons are inconsistent when you go by both Malefor's and others' tales of them, anything is possible at this point. Malefor was said to be the first, but possibly the first recorded Purple Dragon, but he claimed that there were others before him, which may explain how the "Once in 10 Generations" thing may have been born, yet he was claimed to be the first. What happened to the others after Malefor if the detail was born after him? Gah that lore is interesting but confusing af. I love this game especially out of the Spyro series. The jokes are funny, the game is fun and the world is awesome! Plus you can either play two players or by yourself, and swap between the two.
I’ll be honest (and I would like to add that I found the original Spyro series through Skylanders and CrystalBlazier's wonderful walkthrough of DotD, *therefore* I am *not* an *expert* on this subject and *should never* be considered an expert *ever*) I did like dark purple Cynder better, but I know it’s not the same if she’s not her black coloring (which is very cool btw). There was even a DotD parody series on TH-cam that poked fun at the fact that Cynder wasn’t black. And also apparently the only female dragon in the whole game. Anyways, that is the humble opinion of someone who has always watched walkthroughs of the game, but has been unable to buy it because of money and a busy schedule.

I adore both cynder designs but I think because she turned from a black colour to a purple colour it sorta represents her from being corrupt and used by malefor and all them meanies to spyro saving her and the darkness she was forced to be had gone. Almost like she was turning to how she would have naturally been if she hadn't been stolen and used by evil... so even if she was meant to be black, I still think that's really cool too 💙

Maybe as a visual representation of her corruption by Malefor...? But then, couldn't they just have made it, like, a sheen or something? Or maybe that was what they intended to do, but because of the lighting, you can't really tell. Ugh. Also, I saw someone bringing up plot inconsistencies regarding purple dragons in general... man, if these games ever get remade (which is unlikely, but still), they need to do a complete overhaul from the ground up. Everything from the plot to the art style needs to get reassessed and reimagined; keep what works, cull what does not, and for the love of god, actually have a decent budget for everything this time. Time frames are also no object here, since only a subset of people would even be interested, and even then, would probably prefer for the games to actually be good rather than a C-budget rush job.
Yeah, IF an LOS remake is considered, DOTD would most definitely be remade to resemble the art style that was in the previous two titles; not to mention, the mechanics will be changed, such as free flight, the character designs would be same as the previous two titles, etc.

Her “corrupted” form was quite wispy and long, but when those features were crammed into a smaller design her spine just seemed to go screwy. Probably trying to give her a stark, feminine design (seeing how she’s really the only female in the entire game). Even looking at her neck, which was always thin, it looks especially ridiculous with her adolescent head.
Weirdanimalguy Yeah DOTD Spyro and Cynder’s anatomies are messed up. From inflated chests, skinny middles, to crooked spines. They tried to force adult anatomy into small designs and characters who are only 15 years old.
I wish they didn't grew up and became eternal since they were stuck in a golden crystal for years. It doesn't make sens that they grew up. And even if they grew up, they are still the same size xD

You’re actually onto something. Cynder’s creator (I don’t remember his name) had said that her design was the product of her corruption. Meaning that the palette she had in the games weren’t her original colors.

Can other mods be done on emulator? I'd love if there was a way to turn down the ridiculous amount of bloom this game uses on PS3/360... Maybe even some small model edits to make their wings look less janky too.
Has anyone managed to actually get this to work ? The tutorial is a little hard to follow, and I get this error when trying to load up DotD after I've supposedly 'changed' the textures: F {PPU[0x1000001] Thread (CKLoadRequestQueue 0) [0x00029c98]} VM: Access violation reading location 0x0 (unmapped memory) Is there anyone who knows what to do about this, or does this imply that the textures CANNOT be changed ? I'm a little tech savvy but not THIS much, so I don't know what to do about it.

Can other mods be done on emulator? I'd love if there was a way to turn down the ridiculous amount of bloom this game uses on PS3/360... Maybe even some small model edits to make their wings look less janky too.
Has anyone managed to actually get this to work ? The tutorial is a little hard to follow, and I get this error when trying to load up DotD after I've supposedly 'changed' the textures: F {PPU[0x1000001] Thread (CKLoadRequestQueue 0) [0x00029c98]} VM: Access violation reading location 0x0 (unmapped memory)
Is there anyone who knows what to do about this, or does this imply that the textures CANNOT be changed ? I'm a little tech savvy but not THIS much, so I don't know what to do about it.
I'll never get over cynders awful pink/purple combo they decided...did the new team not realize shes a BLACK dragon? Even her egg was black before corruption...not dark purple. It also ruins how Spyro and Malefor are the only 2 purple dragons.
I know right? The Estranges Libellules game director chose Cynder's DOTD colors too, like he didn't research the lore behind purple-scaled dragons in the LOS trilogy. :/
@@CrystalBlazier I agree so much! I was so confused by her colour when the game first came out. She's even referenced as a black Dragon by the hermit you find but she's purple in the game lol...it makes no sense and I'll never get over it !

@@CrystalBlazier ah okay. does your game happen to just be completely black when you try to fullscreen it? Or really change the window size at all? it seems to do that for me for some reason. the only time the game is not in a black screen state is when I reset the window back to the default window size

I used the rpcs3 emulator to play the online PS3 version of DOTD. You can search online for a copy on downloadgameps3.com/
