I've been using these mics as my primary wedding mics for years with ZERO dropouts. I'm so glad Cleveland Terry made a video years ago highly praising these mics. That's what made me give them a try. After my first time using them on a wedding with stellar results, I was completely sold. They have never let me down no matter what all the gear snobs have to say.
I kinda hate, that people are catching on to my secret sauce. I had 8 Shure ULX mic in the early 2000's (approx $8k), then the FCC sold off the 700Mhz, so I replaced them all with EV RE2's in the 600MHz band (12 Mics approx $6k), then the FCC sold the 600MHz, so I replace all 12 with Phoenix Pro's for about $1100, (Two 7000 quad receivers, and 2 7A receivers), Going on 3 years now, and super impressed.
I love my Phoenix pro microphones. I have used them for years and they work flawlessly. Never had a drop out. Never had one issue with them. They’re just fantastic. I used to use shure microphones and they gave me nothing but problems constantly.
Which Model Shure systems? On what frequency group? In what geographic area? I find it hard to believe that it wasn't user error. I've been using Shure systems for 23 ish years and I've just never had a problem at thousands of gigs.
I’m so glad you made this video Phenyx Pro deserves to be on top! Recently I was shopping for new mics and ran across the Phenyx brand, It was at a venue during ceremony. The receiver was upstairs in a closet about 50 feet away from the officiant and he sounded great! I was impressed! I Looked up the price and I couldn’t believe it and was very skeptical! Either way I bought the PTU 2U and I’m extremely happy with the product. The question is not why are they cheap but why are we always getting robbed by the big name brands. They inflate the price even though in reality it’s worth less, obviously we’re just paying for the brand. Either way thanks for this video and you will see the product is amazing!
Love these mics, these are what we use for Karaoke and for our newer DJ's so we don't send them out with expensive gear. They've been bullet proof for us so far.
Dude I’ve been using those Phenyx PTU71 for years. I’ve been praising them like crazy! Last year I just bought 2 different PTU-2U for my booths just before the new PTAU-2 came out. I love it SO much! And I’m envious of the new Pro units. The older PTU-2U are still true Diversity Systems and are just absolutely amazing! I’ve yet to experience any drop outs in the 60+ events I’ve done this year with them.
I have the PTU-71 as well and love this system. I actually just got the body pack for it and use it for a wireless speaker now. I like these bat zone batteries! Need to pick these up!
yo danny i need to try this!! I've seen people doing this with other brands but didnt know if phenyx pro could do it! Any chance you can post a link to the cable you use for the body pack to use it as a wireless system?
I picked up the same mics and used them for the 1st time for speeches at our holiday parties and I was thoroughly impressed. Sound was good and the range was awesome.
I have the PTU2U and it works great. With a good mixer you can EQ it nicely. I do have some older Shure ULDX / SLDX as well. The PTU I believe was their true diversity flagship prior to the model you showed in the 2nd portion. Thanks for this video and all your other videos.
I have the ptu 2u and I'm a huge fan. Nice bright sound, good hot signal, and strong signal. The only caveat is that it has noticeable handling noise. If you scan for a signal at a new venue while everybody is there, you will never had feedback. The few times I had feedback I was lazy and didn't rescan after people came. That being said my Sennheiser G4 didn't have any dropouts even if I didn't rescan, so it is still a bit more reliable. But for the price, there is nothing better than the PTU 2u set up. Sennheiser g4 set up is triple the price for just one mic. With phenyx pro you get two true diversity mic for $300+. Phenomenal.
WTH? No snow in MN?? I have two Phenyx PTU 71B’s. Handheld/lavalier and no issues as of yet. Travis McGuire led me to these, and now you have reassured their quality and superb operation. We got snow in Michigan.
I got the ptu-71, been using it for a year. It's been working great with my large Proms that has 300-400 students, with all the cellphones and other frequencies. No drop outs at all. I was skeptical at first. Just bought the same one you have.
I HAVE PTU-71 over 4 years, amazing product, no drops, and got PTU-7000, I recommend removing the batteries after every gig, but regardless I use new batteries before each gig.
@AaronStrawn these units drain battery 🔋 even if off, I beleave it stays asleep but takes bit of energy. Regards if you getting paid to do gig, its good to have fresh batteries or use rechargeable batteries which you suggest. To cut cost.
I too love my Phenyx Pro mics. I use the PTU-7000 series and have been for years. Very similar to Shure wireless but for a much more affordable price. Amazing feel, range, and quality.
I used Phenyx last year with mixed results. Obviously wireless conditions vary by area and venue and scanning is a must before all events. I found the handheld and lapel sets to be hit or miss. Sometimes it was crystal clear and other times I had drop outs and/or static, even within 15 - 30 feet line of sight. I could not find myself able to rely on them for the most important moments like ceremony and toasts. I ended up going with 2 sennheiser ew g4 systems - a lapel system and a handheld system. The sennheiser systems have been rock solid for every wedding (30+) this year. Just my experience.
I have a Phoenix PTU 71 for four years and I have experience dropouts like two times that I remembered. but after scanning my venues no dropouts ever again. solid electronics in this things and I will buy another set when it gets obsolete, and I don't think it's very soon
Those wireless mics give you alot for your money. I have owned them in the past and NEVER and any issues with drop outs. What I want to tell you is this.... You can use the line out and put a guitar cable in it and then run the other side of the cable to a sound mixer and controller and BOTH micd will work on just 1 channel with NO XLR Connections. Great vid Aaron. If someone does a mic drop with these mics won't need to remortgage your home to purchase new ones.
Dope vid man. So I started like most of us do with the Shure SM58 as a hand held and as I wanted to venture out to a wireless system I was going to grab Shure's PGX system, but I was hesitant because I wanted both a hand held and lavalier to utilize and having to buy two separate systems was pricey for me at the time. So I went to checking out everybody's mic reviews and gig logs looking for a solution and Dj 2Legit was pumping the PTU-71. So after researching it for a while I felt convinced enough to grab one with a cordless mic and lavalier and it just does not disappoint. I think I paid no more than $150 for the set and the shit just works! Are there others out there with better performance? I'm sure there is, but if your talking getting the most bang for the buck particularly if your on a budget.... Phyenx is hard to beat.
@@dsdjgreg what about people holding the mic too low on the bass (like hand at the bottom of the mic). I saw my RF go down significantly when someone was doing this
My PTU-71 channel B died 3 months out of warranty. Dropped at 3 wedding ceremonies. Good karaoke mics, switched to Shure QLXD for weddings. No drop outs since.
I've had issues with the 71s as well. What I found was the BNC center wire broke on all of them that had issues. You can buy the same connector and resolder. It's not that hard but certainly a pain in the ass when that shouldn't be a weak point.
I have that new PTAU-2 and it's the real deal and I paid around $280 for it when it first came out 6 months ago LOL such a deal. It's now my main mic for weddings, just don't let a fat guy LOL wrap both hands around the bottom antenna with his back to you other than that it's good to go but not perfect, you'll see. I do about 170 weddings a year so I've really tested this thing. I even have two Shure QLDX systems and I use this over those. The QLDX does have better distance but at weddings I don't need that distance. The PTU-71 "dual" will get you in trouble cuz it's not a true diversity system and you WILL get drop out hard environments. I did ordered those rechargeable batteries too as I normally get the Costco 48 pack for $18 but hey. Thank you Aaron with me being an old DJ with over 40 years in the night club and wedding biz you keep it real. Lastly think I've been sync'n my PTAU-2 mic with the bottom cap on guest I should've read the directions LOL
Aaron - Great video. How about a review of their lapel mics for wedding ceremonies? I continue to struggle with the quality of the lapels. Looks like their top of the line here with 4 mics is about $300
Both are amazing mics. The only part of the review that you skipped over that I think you will really enjoy is the Spectrum feature. It’s the same as the ones in the Audio Technica mics and the Sennheiser IEM that people like Rick Web love so much.
I have the Phenyx pro PTU 52 dual mics. Used at my first wedding. Got through but was hearing loud cracks in speakers. Couldn’t tell if it was mic reception or what…but got through first speeches.
