I dare not comment on a million subscriber channel but couldn’t stop myself from doing so today. Oregano is never added to any Indian recipe. You can call it a fusion butter chicken or mention that you like adding oregano . Otherwise it looks extremely delicious. Thanks for choosing a recipe from India 🙏🏾

I raised my eyebrows on the oregano as well and wished when she makes changes/additions to an ethnic recipe, she'd mention it. Oregano is a very western herb and I've never seen it in Asian recipes, either. But I also raised my eyebrows on the use of coconut milk in the butter chicken as I'm sure dairy is used. But I know from trying her recipes in the past, especially if I'm unfamiliar to it, they are very good. Are they 100% authentic, no, but easy to do and ingredients are relatively easy to find for the average westerner.

For more authentic butter chicken... Use ghee or neutral oil to saute and use milk cream instead of coconut cream... Also There's no need to add sugar coz canned tomatoes are already sweet and cream will also add to the sweetness

Also, the key element in Indo-Pakistani dishes is to thoroughly cook down the ingredients in the pot before adding the next set of ingredients. That adds a lot of flavor and is often overlooked by non-IndoPak cooks.

She didn't add sugar to the Indian curry, she added it to the Thai curry, which is fine as SE Asians tend to add sugar to their food. The Thai curry didn't have tomatoes, the Indian one did. You might need to watch again where you got this all wrong and then edit your response as apparently many people also mistakenly thought as you did. The biggest thing is she should have mentioned her addition of oregano to an Indian dish as that's a Western herb and also possibly the use of coconut milk over dairy for the butter chicken...as coconut milk/cream to me is more SE Asian, although I'm sure it's used in India as well but not as liberally. I'm not a connoisseur on Indian food but I think in butter chicken, dairy in the form of cream is used.

Make sure you use fresh fenugreek or dried ones in butter chicken. I always keep a cashew paste I make and freeZe it. You can use tandoori masala at any Indian store best one is Badshah brand. And you can also buy dried fenugreek there as well I prefer fresh but dried is convience. The tandoori masala is for the chicken you marinate it in it and then grill or air fryer it for healthier option.

Hey, I love your videos and have been seeing you form years. I just a small recommendation regarding the butter chicken. First thing is you have to add curd in the marinade , second don’t use oregano please use Kasturi methi ie dried fenugreek leaves. Third you have to use cream and not coconut milk. These may be small things but changes the dish completely. Try it once and let me know if you saw the difference. I would love you to try the authentic butter chicken.

BTW, just wanted to mention that your written Indian curry recipe is missing oregano (which I thought was an interesting add to an Indian curry) and also missing the salt you mentioned. But added to the written recipe was paprika, which you didn't mention in the video. I noticed this because I'm anal like that sometimes...blame it on my OCD. :)

Love a good curry. I'm surprised you didn't make your own Thai curry paste, they're easy to make in a food processor. I prefer making my own since I don't tolerate spice.
I'm allergic to coconut so a great sub for coconut milk in curries is plain Greek yogurt. I stir it in when you add coconut milk and it's creamy and delicious.

Butter chicken is so cliched and its gone through a million modifications like in this video.. that its now become the abomination and bane of Indian food. I don't understand why people don't try out and popularize more authentic indian dishes of the interior real India,, not the restaurant staples.. Like for example 'Poshto' a poppy seeds curry which is vegetarian or say a 'kosha Murgi'? these authentic Indian dishes of the regular households are actually not heavy or overpoweringly spicy at all!!.. the terms that give indian food a bad rap and have now become synonymous with Indian cuisine thanks to the restaurants and commercial 'curry culture'.
The pre packaged Garam Masala can never open up the flavors and bring any authentic Indian taste to anything at all!! Also coriander powder is not a 'warming spice' its actually a cooling spice, And the tomatoes need to balanced with some cream (thats wht makes it heavy!!) merely adding a knob of butter will not make it real Murgh makhani, the cream has to be cooked in order for the oils to release and not merely dashed on top.

Thai curry is always gonna win to me because it has a fresher, lighter curry base that's doesn't rely on dry spices and such like Indian curry (plus, the fresh herbs used in it are superior in taste/aroma to Indian-style curries). Indian curry is my least favorite because as you mentioned, there's a heaviness due to the use of so much dried spices and the tendency to cook everything down so much that veggies/herbs lose their freshness or crunch. I've tried countless butter chicken recipes and never liked it, but will give it one more go with your recipe and your added spin to make it fresher tasting to it to see if I like it better. Thanks for sharing the Japanese curry recipe, I have the curry blocks and udon already to go.

@@honeysuckle I'm a hoarder of things...including spices and whatnot. LOL! Don't be surprised if some of that stuff has been sitting around for years...although spices don't necessarily go bad, per se, just lose their potency so you have to use more. Hahaha! I never bought frozen udon until recently, probably because of you or another youtuber. It's been sitting in the freezer waiting for me to use. But....if you're gonna cook things in my kitchen, you better be prepared to experiment with natural stuff like roasted carob, roasted chicory, anise seed , etc. I acquired those recently because I thought, "Hey, Celestial Seasonings no longer make the Almond Sunset tea, so lemme try to make it myself from scratch..." I'm just missing the blackberry leaves. Hahaha! But I've got rosehips, burdock root, hawthorn berries, elderberries, dried hibiscus, etc., for other natural "healthy" drinks from scratch.

@@Samuel_Lima How do you define a curry? It uses traditional Indian spices and oft times masala...it's a curry to me. I did a quick google and here's what I found "Curry refers to a cooked vegetable, meat, or seafood with spices and salt. On the other hand, masala is a kind of mixed spices used in a curry to add more flavor and taste to it. This is the main difference between the terms masala and curry."

She's not trying to make the most authentic ethnic dish out there. She's making it easy for the average to person in the West to put out dinner on the table without stressing over exotic ingredients or cooking steps. Also, she's using ingredients from Kroger since they are sponsoring her so she's limited to what she finds there, which I can assure you does not carry all the ingredients for making curry from scratch. If you're relatively new to a certain recipe or food, she's great at introducing you to it as you get to dip your toe in to get an idea of what the food should sort of taste like before you dive in and go full-on MasterChef.

Your indian curry is COMPLETELY INCORRECT. There is no oregano anywhere in Indian cooking. You are supposed to marinade the protein in a yoghurt based marinade with the spices and mustard oil along with kashmiri chilli powder. That gives it the bright red color unlike yours which has turned out brown. Frying the protein with the spices without the yoghurt as also burnt all the spices. You are supposed to cook, grill the protein separately ro the gravy and then bring them together. Use their cream or the leftover marinade in the sauce. Add lots of butter in the end, as u said its Makhani, which means buttery and finish with kasuri methi.
Completely incorrect recipe and cooking method
