You use Beads as a granular delay effect, wich is nice, but sou can do much more. The module is very deep! You could try to use it as a Wavetable synthesizer or set it up to emulate karplus strong like pluck sounds. It also has similar wow and flutter tape effects like Magneto. You should also try modulating the parameters, then it quickly switches from boring to experimental…
Glad you're enjoying it! I would give anything for an nb sample playing voice but, alas, the 'virtual 5.1' refers to a second Norns/shieldXL running mx.samples. My cyberMIDI mod sends notes over the network using the virtual MIDI port.
I only briefly had a Clouds clone (Monsoon) and didn’t get very deep into it so I can’t really say. I’m not very technical with my synthesis and this is a module I can’t just blindly spin the knobs and hope for something good to happen. That’s on me.
@@ModularBeat I'll say I'm plenty technical with my synthesis, but I still run into the same issue. I want to turn a knob and have it make a meaningful change! I think that's what makes the module into a good, playable instrument.
From my experience with Beads and two different clouds clones: Beads is so much easier and faster to get pretty sounds, while clouds gets a lot dirtier
If you don't modulate anything on Beads you're always going to end up with boring and uninspired results with the module, leverage the shit out of those attenurandomizers.
In retrospect, yeah this feels like an obvious miss on my part. It feels like the sweet spot is so tiny with the knobs that I was struggling to find *any* position that sounded interesting. But maybe I just gotta go bonkers. I’ll give it another shot with a dedicated modulation source 🫡
This still knocks the snot out of most other stuff out there, so please don't be so hard on yourself. BTW it won't look pretty, but cheap M3 standoffs make the disting EX mountable in the palette.
I loved this.
Glad to hear it 🫶

Great tips- thx!
@@ModularBeat And clock it, too! It opens up lots of possibilities.
Thank you for sharing, I’ve really enjoyed using dreamsequence! Is the virtual 5.1 an nb voice playing the piano?

Purty! Do you find Beads to be more complicated/cumbersome than Clouds?
