I agree a lifestyle game is your most expensive games in the hundreds of dollars range, but they can have multiple expansions to get you to that dollar range and they must also be played multiple times a year. For me it is Dead Reckoning, Western Legends, Unfair and Disney Lorcana. Could argue if all 4 are technically lifestyle games or not depending on how a person defines “lifestyle”, but I am all in on those games whenever new content is released for them, including accessories and upgrades. They are getting played 5 plus times a year too. Foundations of Rome would be included too if they found a way to make the game expandable with new monuments expansions. They should have just called it Foundations, and then the monuments minis are expansion packs from different eras and ages to expand upon.
Your unnamed friend might want to check out either Necromunda or Mordheim as a type of dungeon-crawl/campaign game that takes place in a futuristic wasteland in the former, or crowded medieval city streets in the latter, and you build your "team" to be able to last through a "campaign" series.
