Anchor Wizard + LeverLoc Anchor Trolley on a Bonafide SS127

  • The purpose of this video is to show my anchoring system on my Bonafide SS127.
    I leveraged YakAttack's LeverLoc install video, Anchor Wizard's "anchor wizard with a trolley" video, and an "install a mighty mount in/on the perch pad of a SS127" video to end here.
    As I mention (yes more than once as a somewhat nervous first time TH-camr), I haven't fished this system yet, but will very soon. If for any reason I find the system sucky, I'll be sure to come back and share what I've learned.
    In the meantime, I hope this provides a visual of at least one person who tried to combine these anchoring tools. Keep the rods bent!

    Prefect set up, that is exactly what I had in mind to do for my kayak. The only thing I’m trying to figure out is how I can incorporate all that plus a way to disconnect from the anchor if I catch a giant

    • @jad814
      @jad814  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you liked the idea. As for your note on disconnecting, short of forgetting the line/anchor I don't think I have a great answer.
      What I can say, and obviously idk what a monster classifies as for you, I've had 4-5 lb bass able to move my "anchored" yak in the lake I commonly fish. I think sticking to a downrigger ball here (as opposed to other more aggressive anchor options) will treat you well.

    Hi. I know this vid is a little older, but how did your setup work? I am in the same boat ( no pun intended LOL ) as you.

    • @jad814
      @jad814  ปีที่แล้ว

      Vid is old but never dies seemingly! It's become kinda fun to get a few of these questions per season... had no idea that would happen...
      For me, it does the job just fine. That said, as I've told others consistently, that isn't to say there isn't a better way. We are years forward now, and at the time I tried this I meshed together what was the "anchor trolley" video and the "anchor wizard" video that both had their own recommendations and landed at this. But... there may be a better way nowadays and I'd love to see it!
      If I were to pick a "different" route that I think would be sweet for 80-90% or more of my personal fishing, it'd be having the anchor on the nose with a power pole in the back, and you can do whatever you want with that setup (water I'm in majority of times is fine for power pole).
      But... that's a VERY different budget too... which is why I ended up where I did leading to this video :-)

    Great ingenuity !! Great video. Thats the beauty of kayak rigging. I'm always looking for a better idea on all things yak rigging wise. Question - what weight is that downrigger ball and does it do the trick in keeping you on your spot ?? - Thanks !!

    • @jad814
      @jad814  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the kind words. That ball is 8 (I think, maybe 7). For me, it does the job. Now, my primary water for my kayak is a nearby lake, so I'm not typically anchoring in a river or large creek type flow. My setup is more about general slow rolling than sitting perfectly still (I could add another rig or a park n pole) as much as it is give me a general hold while I work an area/run.
      My thinking was I can always go up in weight if it didn't work perfectly for me...

      Hi Greg, I appreciate your kind words. Personally, I take my anchor on and off each time I go out. Do I have to? Idk... Probably not, but I roof rack my kayak to and from every trip and that's just one more thing able to slightly bounce around on the road. I like to take it off then I wind the wizard til the carabiner is snug with the lower pully and call it a day...

      Justin Dorus Gotcha. I’ll be installing this same system this coming weekend. Think what I’ll do is utilize the wizards anchor catch tube, mount it to the side of my tackle crate next to the anchor crank. My only concern is if that’s too much line stretched about.. I’ll see if I can’t send you a pic after it’s done 🤙 thanks again for the video. Make more!

      @@greghamilton3635 best of luck man! If there's one thing I'd tell you, and obviously I have never done this rig any other way, to me the further you you have the wizard from the first pulley (I.e. the pulley closest to my Anchor Wizard), id think the reeling would only be more difficult when you want to whip it up.
      Now, my move most times is I get the trolley line close to that pulley then crank, and yes it may spin your yak some while it draws the slack, but what I can tell you is once you figure out how it "spins" you, you can use that knowledge for mini adjustments when wind changes and what not too...

      @@jad814 Thanks. I'm still trying to figure out how to rig my anchor system and the only aspect I'm sure of is the trolley. The issue I can't seem to get around with the idea of a wizard is that you can't set up a (retrievable) quick release. So I'm thinking I might go with a SideWinder and a float. It's manual, yes, but that aspect means I can easily make a quick release.

      I have no complaints. Haven't had any issues truly. Whether or not the second offset pulley truly lessons the crank aspect is perhaps debatable, but one thing that's for sure is that it "routes" the line to the trolley in a way so that no matter where I have my trolly set, the line goes to that pulley. Without it, if I got the trolly further in either direction from the wizard I know that anchor line would be in my way and frustrating me!

      So, I followed the advice of the creator/owner of the Anchor Wizard for that one. He makes it explicitly clear in his video. That said, what I can say is, without it (obviously I have never experienced this first hand) it'd be some type of bear to crank if the anchor is basically anywhere but right under it in my mind. Additionally, and I presume not the original planned benefit of it, your anchor line is a mess if you have the trolley far away. That first pulley basically let's the trolly work kinda like it wants to if you don't have the Wizard in play...
