I'm entirely unsure why people can watch The Avengers go to space, put stones in a gauntlet that can kill people with a snap, but watching a man survive a gorilla attack is where they draw the line? Holy hell. People are WILD.
Love that moment of claustrophobia and unease at 1:40 when you see Akut slamming the ground in the background, but see the subtle camera shake. It really sells the power and ferocity that these creatures possess.
While obviously a gorilla would absolutely obliterate the strongest human in existence, the point of this movie is a bit of a sci-fi take in which Tarzan’s body, WHILE HUMAN, has been engrained and toughened in possibly one of the most dangerous places on Earth since he was a child, letting him gain just enough strength and endurance to survive with a very upgraded species of gorilla. The point of the movie is that the animals are massively exaggerated versions of themselves, but so are the humans. Any normal human being would have literally died seconds into the beating Tarzan took, and he managed to walk away with a few broken bones and cuts. It’s just cool to see a version where this super sought out matchup actually happens, even if it’s in a super fictional movie.
I totally agree with your comment. The point of the Tarzan stories is the he is a man physically conditioned far past what is humanly possible. Despite the CGI being a bit jank, I think this is a pretty decent fight scene. It would be silly if Tarzan KO'ed Akut with a right cross or something, and it would be an insult to the Tarzan character if the Ape beat him with little effort.
Tarzan is still alive after this fight only because Akut took it easy on him because he's his brother. Also let's all keep in mind that this is just a "FICTIONAL" movie.

I remember watching a documentary on finding Nemo. They brought this fish specialist in to help with the movement of the fish and the realism. At one moment while animating Dory the specialist exclaimed that the fish's fins can't extend that high in reality as it's underlying musculature doesn't allow it. The animator turned and looked at him and said "uuhhhh....... these fish can't speak either so..........".
This is sort of like what happened to me when I challenged my older cousin as a teen (he was grown). he beat me up and hurt me enough to show the wisdom of NOT challenging everyone just because I was so 'powerful' in my own little world (teens). There's a regular guy who lifted 4000 a pound boulder off himself in an emergency, and a woman who lifted a car off her toddler. Scientists say that if the extra energy in our bodies weren't directed towards our sense of reason i.e. the brain, we'd probably have a phenomenal amount of strength. Very smart people eat A LOT of food like weightlifters and athletes along with a metabolism to process it. We only use 10% of our brain and 30% of our actual strength. I'm not saying we can take on gorillas, but with people that can survive head on car crashes, I think there are more than a few people that can take more than 1 hit.

@Mathias it might just be that it's a unnecessary zoom-in shot, and that's what's funny about it.
While obviously a gorilla would absolutely obliterate the strongest human in existence, the point of this movie is a bit of a sci-fi take in which Tarzan’s body, WHILE HUMAN, has been engrained and toughened in possibly one of the most dangerous places on Earth since he was a child, letting him gain just enough strength and endurance to survive with a very upgraded species of gorilla. The point of the movie is that the animals are massively exaggerated versions of themselves, but so are the humans. Any normal human being would have literally died seconds into the beating Tarzan took, and he managed to walk away with a few broken bones and cuts. It’s just cool to see a version where this super sought out matchup actually happens, even if it’s in a super fictional movie.
I totally agree with your comment. The point of the Tarzan stories is the he is a man physically conditioned far past what is humanly possible.
Despite the CGI being a bit jank, I think this is a pretty decent fight scene. It would be silly if Tarzan KO'ed Akut with a right cross or something, and it would be an insult to the Tarzan character if the Ape beat him with little effort.
Tarzan is still alive after this fight only because Akut took it easy on him because he's his brother.
Also let's all keep in mind that this is just a "FICTIONAL" movie.

I remember watching a documentary on finding Nemo. They brought this fish specialist in to help with the movement of the fish and the realism. At one moment while animating Dory the specialist exclaimed that the fish's fins can't extend that high in reality as it's underlying musculature doesn't allow it.
The animator turned and looked at him and said "uuhhhh....... these fish can't speak either so..........".
This is sort of like what happened to me when I challenged my older cousin as a teen (he was grown). he beat me up and hurt me enough to show the wisdom of NOT challenging everyone just because I was so 'powerful' in my own little world (teens). In hindsight, he held back because of his love for his dumbass younger cousin (me)....He was and STILL remains one of my FAVORITE cousins decades later!!!

This is Tarzan of the apes --- no ordinary man.
There's a regular guy who lifted 4000 a pound boulder off himself in an emergency, and a woman who lifted a car off her toddler. Scientists say that if the extra energy in our bodies weren't directed towards our sense of reason i.e. the brain, we'd probably have a phenomenal amount of strength. Very smart people eat A LOT of food like weightlifters and athletes along with a metabolism to process it. We only use 10% of our brain and 30% of our actual strength. I'm not saying we can take on gorillas, but with people that can survive head on car crashes, I think there are more than a few people that can take more than 1 hit.
