You said that this was the original troll game.. Thing is? You have no idea how right you are. There is one part, and anyone whos gotten there knows what I mean, where the game does something so troll-y that it infuriates literally everyone who gets there. It leaves people speechless, pointing at the TV in disbelief. It may actually be the first and only time in history where trolling becomes almost an art form.
laughed so hard when you had the flawless run through the gargoyles and then 2 hot dogs killed you out of nowhere haha i am having a blast, please make more of these videos
Having come off of Arin of Game Grumps fame playing Super Ghouls and Ghosts, I can't not see the Dagger and think of phrases like, "Ah yes, I am immortal now, for I have.... the 'Daggure'. The Daggure's power is immeasurable, and I am not worthy of its boon. But if I can tame its unbridled energy, I might save my fair princess." Was such a fun playthrough.
So cute to see some young blood trying to go head first in Ghost’n Goblins... :) By the way there is a bug in the NES version at the end of the level 3 you can die instantly for no reason... but in fact you can avoid the trigger. If you fall down straight into the pit before the last red arimer you set the trigger. You need to make a long jump from the last ledge to avoid falling in the small gap step. Then avoid the fake bonus that turn you in frog and continue to the Dragon Boss. Also there is some armor hidden in each levels... but as you may have discovered the game is not easy (well, the developers were sadist back in time) so...you also need to know where they are and how to trigger them to make them appear... Spoiler alert To finish this game.... you need to do it twice and you need to kill the last boss with the special holy weapon... ;-) If you want to learn more about it check this guy. He is trying to finish it without dying! th-cam.com/video/cUDWDAMnb34/w-d-xo.html
Lmn Sama sadists? No, not at all, they were capitalists. The more you die, the more quarters you have to feed the arcade machine to be able to continue. There's a fine line between too hard, and just hard enough for gamers to obsessively feed coin after coin. Good old times.
Interestingly, NES version of GnG is difficult than its Arcade counterpart. As a story goes, an outsourcing company of Capcom back then made poor porting efforts for the game.
A lot of the superhero games were incredibly difficult. For SNES, my childhood was filled with frustrating levels of "Captain America and The Avengers", "Spiderman and the X-Men in Arcade's Revenge" and "The Death of Superman". One surprisingly difficult game was the SNES "Speed Racer". Difficult racing and even harder platforming.
"how do i avoid getting hit by nothing"...lmao... "i just made it through two gargoyles flawlessly and then got killed by two hot dogs"... i love it. welcome to my childhood nightmare.
That is the furthest I ever got too. Except, I never beat that dragon. I loved knowing what garbage was coming your way and watching you squirm. Great vid
I have to say that is the first time I’ve seen someone get changed into a frog. So congrats I think... Also, I didn’t know this until now, the little red ball things you picked up are actually extra time. I always thought they were bonus points. Loving this series and thanks for all the entertainment!
That ball is called a yashichi, and it appears in a lot of Capcom games from back in the day. Some of them in this game are extra time, others are indeed just points.
Awesome vid Ryu. I've played through the Sega Genesis and SNES iterations of this game, and they're brutal, but not as bad as this. It was a lot of fun watching this and knowing your pain. I hope you continue and beat this game despite all the BS from level 3!
Regarding the "Gargoyles," when you first encounter Firebrand/Red Arremer: 1. Hit him. He'll fly up. 2. Stand Still. Firebrand will land and run at you. 3. Mash the attack as he charges. It's easy-ish to kill him, but the method is counter-intuitive. Note that this only works when fighting him on flat ground. The later ones in the cave are a bit trickier. The first one can be dealt with the same way. The second one you just jump up and attack. You should kill him before he attacks you. Taking the left path when you see the ladders actually will spawn extra armor for you if you've been hit. The first half of this game is actually the easy part, good luck ever getting past the second half. Also, never take anything but dagger and shield.
Nice video! Great job as always! I looked up some of the game stuff as curiosity. Armor never drops from enemies. The ones you saw are just statues for points. On the red demons, one recommendation was to only show the elbow of the red gargoyle on screen. Attack him, then off screen him. Wait a few seconds and he should disappear. Not sure how effective that is since I've never played the game though.
Wait... hold up.... You’re f’n telling me that as a kid I never even made it out of the demo? That I never completed the tutorial to get to level one? Damn.
Never really get a chance to catch you on Twitch, so I have to watch these here. Just wanted to say thanks for running this game. Was the bane of my existence when I was a kid.
I love your videos. I watched this for 2 reasons: looking at your face as you met the demon and looking at your face as you managed to beat the final boss. Let's say I'm HALF satisfied.
SUPER LIKE!! I been laughing this whole vid since the first mention of hotdogs! This, believe it or not was one of my favorite games of my childhood... you should play it on genesis or snes and there is also ghouls and ghosts... would love to see u play the immortal on genesis or rygar on nes or wizards and warriors!
This is one of those games where you have to keep moving otherwise you'll just get swarmed under. You're so brittle that you can risk staying in one spot
Ah, Ghosts and Goblins what a great game! I actually beat this game when I was a young pup. Those red devils are the worst, just as Ryu was saying. The key is to jump, and then in midair turn and shoot them. Also, you want to keep the daggers through the entire game because they are the fastest weapon. Then, how are you rewarded when you finally beat the last boss? You get to do it all again! Man, I remember suffering through this game. Tough, but not as tough to beat as Ninja Gaiden 2.
I thought my schoolgirl-esque crush couldn't get any worse after the Battletoads video and then you go and play Ghosts 'N Goblins. All of your videos are quality content, mate, and the "Extraordinarily Hard Games" series is slowly becoming my favorite among them. Thanks for the hours of entertainment, hope you keep it going for a long time to come.
I also died on that invicible death pixel on stage 3, must be a glitch. Tip of advice, get the knife!! I have actually beat this game, took me lots of practice and when I finaly did it, the run took 7 hours haha (no savestate, original nes consoll)
I like how you’ve kinda started playing more games besides Mario stuff, and I love the Extraordinarily Hard Games series! You should play Contra next!!!
2:27 Yep. You right even the arcade version and his squeal ghouls N' ghost, you have to watch and listening the music you can't skip that. Tell you what you will see that map every single time.
I beat this game when I was a teen and at the end it said you didn’t beat it in a good enough time and sent me back to the 1st stage. Still love this game.
Dawg u jus took me back 2 child hood memories! I love it!!! If ur a real gamer this will this ur skills n ol skool games...member......we never had saves...imagine that
I think the invisible projectiles happen because they programmed them on the same sorting layer as the background. It seems they phase in and out of existence but the hit box is always there.
My friend introduced me to this game at his house when I was a little kid. Even though it was ridiculously difficult I was hooked. Watching you play it reminds me that I have infinitely more respect for modern games.
Haven't seen the video yet (I assume it's great per usual), but I just wanted to let you know about how the original Rayman game gets really freaking hard after a while. Definitely something you should check out for this series! Keep up the good work, ryu
Most difficult game I ever played as a kid. Absolute madness. I got past the final boss once and then it told me to do it again and I noped out of the game.
I highly recommend playing the Batman game. Excellent soundtrack, graphics and gameplay/platforming. Edit: Also recommend Battle of Olympus (Its like Zelda II: The Adventure of Link sidescrolling portion) Strider Shatterhand Street Fighter 2010 Kid Icarus Bionic Commando
The flying hotdogs reminded me of Monster Party, which you should play. Its an absurd and absurdly hard game where you get to fight an onion ring as a boss.
Some day I'd consider Ghosts and Goblins and/or Super Ghosts and Goblins. Not back to back with this game probably, but I'd put 'em on the list for sure! The games also get a tad better than this one haha
Oh fuck YYYYYYEEEEEEeeeeeesssssssssss...... Great upload bud, please keep up these kinda uploads. It's very refreshing to watch and fun to come along on these journeys.
The timer has to be the stupidest part of this game. I know that this game was quite the quarter eater in the arcade, but the timer takes something away from what should be a fun experience.
The magic is in arcade version, that you need to keep direction button pressed when fire.....that will speed up the fire speed. And with arcade version, if you walk close enough the gargoyle before first fire, you can spank him with one go. I can go the arcade version with one game until level 5th but then my luck runs out. There is still some magic that I need to learn,
"There goes half the game."
Let's just say you're half right about that statement.
Da Monsta Jam!!! I would assume he knows...
Harm Hoeks Sounded like he was playing blind, so I don't think he knows...
If he knew, he'd also know the one big rule of Ghosts n' Goblins: Get the knife!
Get the knive... ofc yeah. Half the game lol not exactly
1.Get the knife
2.Get the knife
3.Get the knife
4. Profit.
Dammit you win my comment XD
Justin Blocker AVGN is always right
Isn't the dragon boss immune to the dagger? The lance is better for that boss.
It’s a Dagger, ffs.
@@That_Guy_In_The_Sky 🗡
The flying hotdogs are taking my clothes off!
Brett Y xD
Then they shat on him. Got to remember that happened.
Lol xD

Great reaction in the beginning of this video: "Dude, can I chill? The game is already trying to kill me!" :)
God I never came far in this game

That falling platform! 4:26
@@-taz- omg yes and it doesn't look any different from the other ones that don't fall, that was clearly done by some dev who was laughing his ass off
Are you talking about the shield
it has to be the so called ending
14:05 “fighting this guy is worse than anything.... he is Dancing THROUGH the walls right now... “ hahahaha awesom vid Ryu :)
I'm loving this retro game series! Making me all nostalgic 😏 Keep 'em coming, Ryu! 😊✌
"I don't know how to avoid getting hit by nothing" I laughed so hard
The key is to not say "I was so close to having an extra hit for the boss" or "At least I get a shot at the boss" 😂🤣
15:56 Makes sense, especially when the Gargoyles show off the troll dance, lol
This series is AMAZING Ryu!
Solution ALPHA I agree+
Probably the most frustrating game ever but a real classic! Ghouls n ghosts for SNES was a good reboot of this as well.
My man got straight bodied by air, that’s how you know this is a quality game 😂
I don't think that glitch was in the arcade version, but OMG... the NES version. Arg. 🤮
laughed so hard when you had the flawless run through the gargoyles and then 2 hot dogs killed you out of nowhere haha i am having a blast, please make more of these videos

I’d still “recommend” Dragon’s Lair for this series!
I second this, I have fond memory of this game
The arcade cabinet one is the best in my opinion but the nes one is hard as fuck
Yes, but I'd like to see the Arcade version.
"Dude the hotdogs are spawning out of nowhere".. lol
Jajaja buena

Aaron Brittingham super lucky is an understatement. also real lucky to kill that Red Arimer on the first try without taking a hit
There's also a glitch in level 3 to make Red Aremer disappear by hitting him once and then running away.

Are there any benefits in being changed into a frog ?
Evetchen Brown No you are basically just a frog all you can do is jump
Awesome vid Ryu. I've played through the Sega Genesis and SNES iterations of this game, and they're brutal, but not as bad as this. It was a lot of fun watching this and knowing your pain. I hope you continue and beat this game despite all the BS from level 3!
My dad told me to beat this game and it sucked so bad but watching you going through what I had too makes me feel so much better and laugh so much!
One thing is that once you beat it the first round it was a a dream and you have to beat all of it again to finally get the princess

Surely you aren’t implying that you won’t finish this game. You must! You must avenge my childhood!

Loved this one, too. I wanna see it completed. :D

the deaths and game over sound effects and your expressions are funny in this game lol

It just occurred to me that the guy Ryu is controlling kinda looks like a tiny pixellated version of him 😆 🤣 😂
One of my favorite TH-cam videos of all time!
Bart VS the space mutants on the NES was one of the games I played as a child that I still remember being difficult now.
I thought my schoolgirl-esque crush couldn't get any worse after the Battletoads video and then you go and play Ghosts 'N Goblins.

In my opinion, this is the best series of videos you've ever done. Nice work.
Gotta do Super Ghouls and Ghost on the SNES next. If you don’t kill the end boss in a certain way you get back to start to do it all over again LOL!!

I think the invisible projectiles happen because they programmed them on the same sorting layer as the background. It seems they phase in and out of existence but the hit box is always there.
The dragon was clearly giving you the look of death. Just gotta press the button that closes your character's eyes. :-)

Half of the Game? Hahahaha
More like quarter. lol
Thanks for playing this game. I used to play the arcade version back in the day. Forgot about this frustrating and difficult game!

Hey Ryu, you ought to try the original Adventure Island for NES. That game gave me fits with it’s precise platforming.
I laughed when he picked up the fire. Impossible to win with it.
Yesss dude this one was the best. That game kicked my ass as a kid. This had me rollin hard damn near the whole time. Thanks dude
I think the fact he called them hot dogs is hilarious
Ryu: Thinks that it is a non glitchy game.
Ryu again: get's hit by air
The key to these GnG games is speed. Just keep moving
Ryu keep it going. Awesome content
Awesome video once again!

You go a lot further than I ever did on my first time playing... Love your vids!
Beating this one was the hardest achievement I have accomplished in gaming. A ghouling...er grueling experience
you got me laughing so hard over that gargoyle.
Don't piss off the gargoyle!!
Ghosts and Goblins totally ruled. Thanks for the nostalgia!
Whole time I'm just waiting to face palm myself when a weapon other than the dagger comes along
17:14 "Wait. What is that?" and your reaction afterward made me lmfao X 1,000,000,000... this game, man
