Playing this game in the 90s was brutal. No save states so you had to beat it in one sitting. And of course the constant map music is etched in my brain. Even with all that, I kept coming back for more, great game, great music and challenging. Love it.
Demon's Crest isn't really hard though. It's fun from what I remember. If anything he might have a hard time trying to figure what the fuck to do since it's kind of open world and doesn't really tell you where to go lol I would enjoy seeing a Demon's Crest playthrough though.
@@SneakySkitz0 that game is kind of weird. I loved super ghouls and ghosts as a kid, and didn't even know demons crest existed until I saw it on some TH-cam video a year or two ago. I started playing it on an emulator, and seems okay, but also kind of weird. I only played a few levels(as I was playing something else at the time that I liked more), so I never got completely used to the controls, and even what was going on, but I was surprised at how easy it was(again, at least the first few levels) for a game in that series. I'm definitely coming back to it though. It's even on the SNES switch app thing(I forget what you call it.)
Ryu: This is one of the hardest game. Oh look! We can change the difficulty! *Puts the hardest mode* Why are you doing this to yourself, Ryu? Edit: I love all the different deaths x)
Hey Ryu, I don't know if you'll see this comment, but I have an idea for the ranking video. Instead of just having most to least difficult, you could do a graph where one axis is difficulty and the other axis is fairness, since not all difficulty is fair to the player
Dude...it's either hard or it isn't...'fair' is subjective and a useless metric to judge video games. Every game ever made has a predictable pattern to it...You not seeing that doesn't make it unfair...you just need to figure out the pattern and the tricks that make it easier. Like, Ryu (for example) never got gold armor once...he doesn't even know about the super moves for each weapon...he never got the crossbow (best weapon when upgraded)...plus he never learned the weird patterns of the waterfalls, whirlpools and enemies...it's like he never played these games ever...
sorry to be off topic but does anybody know of a trick to log back into an instagram account? I stupidly forgot my account password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me!
So, ya boy John Vipe here plays this game religiously to this day Ryu, and I have to tell you my good man. I AM MIGHTY IMPRESSED with your progression and how far you've gotten. It took me a good year of my childhood to beat level "3" (4) I affectionately call the cherry/blueberry/lasagna heart tunnel. Serious MAJOR probs, my man. I'm always so entirely enthralled by your video game prowess.
So cool to see you playing this and Super Probotector Alien Rebels (Contra 3 in USA). I beat this one on pro mode when I was 10 and recently tried it again, thinking there's no way I'd still be able to beat it. To my surprise, the memory just kicks in. I somehow knew every enemy placement and chest spawn and muscle memory kicked in too and I beat it in pro mode again. Good times!
This super ghosts and this is the game I had when I was a kid this game is the best ghost and goblins hands down but I hope you have a good time playing this game for me this is the original ghost and goblins I know it's not but for me it is and it has a special place in my heart
I love this series so far. I played the heck out of this game on profesional when I was a kid. I really like your content and I've been watching your videos for quite a while now.
thanks Ryu for playing this. While the others weren't bad (or at least most were not), you're finally playing the right ones. Also, get hyped for the new Battletoads that just got announced at E3!
I remember when this game came out, pretty close to the launch of the Super Nintendo. I’ve never played it but I remember it got really good reviews. I always thought it looked great too. Really enjoying this series and I hope you continue after the finale video. Thanks for the good content!
Looking forward to your ranking video, Super Ghouls and Ghosts was my favorite that you played for sure. I hope that this series isn't gone for too long... Who am I kidding you always deliver the excellent content dude. Keep doing what you do.
22:38 says its not as cheap as the first one... Because he got to the ice level, he gets to the final stage and he will probably start disagreeing with what he said about the game being more fair xD Ryukahr nice playthrough man keep it up :D
The red demon in this game is the main character in Demon's Crest you play as. Loving this series and of course I'm gonna keep pushing one of my favorite hard childhood games cause I know you'll really enjoy it!
I don't think he knows you can shoot up and down, unless that's only in Ghouls N Ghosts -_-. And the best part of the game was looking for hidden chests for super armors.
I have a copy of this game for gameboy/DS. It is honestly one of my favorites. One thing to remeber with it is that everything happens in patterns, and that you can find chest by moving in specific ways or to specific spots. The bow can be strong, especially when you have upgrades armor, but the dagger is generally the strongest weapon cause ot attack really quickly.
Never played this game on hard mode. It was hard enough on normal. In fact, this game would make you pull your hair out, so amazingly difficult at times!….but so well done and fun.
The little shiny soldier dude that some enemies drop the glows colors is what give you extra credits for continues usually the enemies carrying the little baskets
15:56 In the NES game, a lot of the treasure and items are pretty much useless, only good for points. In Super Ghouls and Ghosts it’s the money bags you collect that determines how many continues you get, making it much more important. That being said, it’s almost impossible to not get more continues all of the time; continues are basically infinite.
u can get more chests to spawn by jumping around in certain areas. the armor upgrades to a gold armor which gives u an ability to do a charge up attack. and it comes with a shield that can take an additional hit. that shield can also b upgraded to take 3 additional hits.
I don't think that's true. I think it's actually very fair(unlike ghosts and goblins, though one could argue even that is just insanely hard as opposed to unfair.) Unless I'm misunderstanding what you guys mean. I actually had no problem "beating" this as a kid, and I was certainly not even remotely some sort of "expert gamer"(nor am I now for that matter.) It wasn't until I was an adult and actually tried playing the second playthrough(because as a child I figured it was just the same game again, possibly at a harder difficulty, so why bother) that I realized why everyone thinks this game is so hard. Beating the second to last boss with that stupid bracelet took me like an hour or two. Then I got to the final boss, and pretty much died instantly. I gave it about 5 or 6 tries and said, "fuck it." Didn't care enough at the time to bother spending God knows how long learning the pattern, or looking up tutorials online.
As someone who has taken the time (literally months of playing non stop everyday) to beat this game on professional mode mucho mucho respect going for it on professional
This was one of my favorite SNES games that I beat when I was a kid. I didn't get true ending until it came out on Switch (where I could make checkpoints).
THIS game was my Dark Souls after Mega man 2. Haven't watched all the way thru but this game has two armor upgrades and so many hidden chests. I beat it without knowing about the second playthrough and was devastated I had to go thru it again.
What?!!? Wow...I feel sorry you never got to play this as a kid (unless you are a kid now)...but also am jealous you can experience this game with fresh eyes...this is my 4nd favorite game ever (Mario Kart, Link to the Past, Dark Souls...then Super G+G)
Gold armor if you hold down the weapon button you can charge up a super attack as well which is different for each weapon on the second playthrough you have to beat the game the final boss with a weap that only drops on playthrough 2 called the fairy bracelet it's best to use dagger until final level and then get the fairy bracelet right before the final boss fight
Dagger is the best weapon and you need to get armor upgrades up to gold armor and then you have a shield with gold armor that has an upgrade as well (starts as a red shield) upgrades to a blue shield
This seemed like a surprisingly fun game with lots of variety in the stage designs, huge improvement from the crapfest of the first one. It appears that the knife is still the only viable weapon rendering the other ones quite useless, and the movement is a bit clunky on some points, but in overall this game seems to be a tough but fair platformer. As for the whole season, I think you made good choices for the series with many classic old school games, but also introducing a couple of less well known ones to us. In your next season games like Karate Kid and Top Gun would be nice to see! :-)
Rasmus Peltola The daggers were my weapon of choice but they’re not the only viable weapon by a long shot (their magic spell suuuucks except against the first boss). The crossbow becomes a heat seeker which is awesome until you learn that you can’t fire another volley until the first one is gone, and they can circle around forever. The lance is solid. The scythe is actually really powerful but slow moving. The axe.....the axe is just weird. The torch is insanely useful in vertical levels. They all have their flare.
Awesome job, you're kicking that game's butt. How long did it take you to get to where you ended the video at? It almost seems like it's flowing better than a super expert Mario Maker run.
I would love to see you come back and beat the rest of it. One of the hardest stages is pitch black. You cant see anything. You have to basically learn the whole stage from trial and error.
I don't know if you'll read this but a suggestion for the extraordinarily hard games is for the snes it is called hagane and it was a blockbuster exclusive and didn't sell well but it is very difficult
I don't think the people who made this game and named that difficulty "professional" actually expected professional gamers to beat it on that mode as their job.
Excellent choice. Now you just have to play Ghouls 'N Ghosts for the Genesis to complete the trilogy. You could try the arcade port, but then you'll just cheese it with infinite quarters - unless you donate a quarter to a charity for every fake quarter you use.
Hey Ryukahr! Are the completed runs twitch exclusive? So you ever plan on uploading those complete runs to TH-cam or does that not vibe well with the twitch community?
I FREAKING LOVE THIS SERIES =) So happy when it uploads
mrlucretia I hope he does Maximo on ps2 next.
Too bad he hasn't uploaded a new one in over 3 years
Take a key for coming in.
Lol, that's a spambot dude.
Gotta unlock that waterfall.
The character even looks like Ryu, lol.
Who showed you
Playing this game in the 90s was brutal. No save states so you had to beat it in one sitting. And of course the constant map music is etched in my brain. Even with all that, I kept coming back for more, great game, great music and challenging. Love it.
The next game has to be Demon's Crest. Complete the series!
Demon's Crest isn't really hard though. It's fun from what I remember. If anything he might have a hard time trying to figure what the fuck to do since it's kind of open world and doesn't really tell you where to go lol

He would have to play Ghouls and Ghosts on Sega Genesis to truly complete the series.
Ryu: This is one of the hardest game. Oh look! We can change the difficulty! *Puts the hardest mode*
Why are you doing this to yourself, Ryu?
Edit: I love all the different deaths x)
lol it's awesome how he struggles at the start but pulls off some crazy ass dodges on the fly
Hey Ryu, I don't know if you'll see this comment, but I have an idea for the ranking video. Instead of just having most to least difficult, you could do a graph where one axis is difficulty and the other axis is fairness, since not all difficulty is fair to the player
Draconfound i like this...none are really fair on this list but i like it
Punch out is fair
I would be more curious about difficulty/fun level
Dude...it's either hard or it isn't...'fair' is subjective and a useless metric to judge video games. Arthur looks like Ryu. Someone shop this
Taylor F it's funny considering that Capcom just released an Arthur costume for Ryu in street fighter V

The graphics and gameplay are super cool. Nice work considering it's Professional Mode.
The music in this game is really good, too :)
This super ghosts and this is the game I had when I was a kid this game is the best ghost and goblins hands down but I hope you have a good time playing this game for me this is the original ghost and goblins I know it's not but for me it is and it has a special place in my heart
"That key opens up the waterfall, because that makes sense."
Best color commentary ever.
I love this series so far.
I played the heck out of this game on profesional when I was a kid.

Seeing Demon's Crest get played would be amazing. great work as always Ryu
true that

Childhood game. I remember playing this a lot with my mom, we were insane at it.
10:55 Let us admire this beautiful underwater waterfall.
I'm eating junky food watching a Ryukahr video..I love my life
That game! When you think it's over, it just started...
Am I the only one who's inner child is screaming at all the unopened chests?
me too ^^ he didnt try other weapon (with gold armor axe is amazing ^^)
This damn game is the proof that you don't need a big budget to have an awesome videogame done
The red demon in this game is the main character in Demon's Crest you play as. Loving this series and of course I'm gonna keep pushing one of my favorite hard childhood games cause I know you'll really enjoy it!
Really love this series. Nice to see someone with real skills tackle these ridiculous games!
Ryu ending on a great note here.
Bro this was literally the funniest one you’ve made bro 😹😹😹
Ryu, thank you, thank you, thank you! Definitely want to see the end of this game if possible. You actually made that look way easier than I remember.
I think my favourite part about this game is the ridiculous jump animations that still manage to fit the character perfectly.
I speedrun this game.
kinda funny watching someone play it fresh.
No you don't. I do.
And you know nothing of my work.
“Let’s not question the will of the universe… okay now I’m questioning it.” 🤣
I hope to see Pepsiman one day
Ricardo Reyes
I need to see ryu play that game now.
1 of my fav games when growing up, hard af but also fun as hell. Hope u will take the time to make another episode of this game, keep up the good work
Really enjoyed these videos, keep it going my man!
"Professional".
Ryu by the end of the video:
"More like... EZ"
Can't wait for the recap
this gives me closure for years of childhood gaming frustration

This dude is next level good at SNES. That controller would have been through the drywall.
You've GOT to get the golden armor and try all the weapons different charged attacks.
agree finding hidden chests hunting down the golden armor was my favorite part of this game.
Give him a break he's doing enough
@@BrockitGaming same ^^

A great first season Ryu! Looking forward for the next one!
it legitimately took me 3 years of my childhood to get to level 4. Ryu does it in 25 minutes
Spinal Tap reference earns a like (even though this series deserves a like already).
Some of the best content to take a poop with
RN Jesus not sure if this was a compliment or a insult
Most definitely a compliment my good sir

Hell yes been waiting for this
This is the game equivalent of offscreen thwomps
Stories Of Nypre no the game is thoose fucking trial and error pipe levels
This was project x zone for the NES generation
I don't think that's true. I think it's actually very fair(unlike ghosts and goblins, though one could argue even that is just insanely hard as opposed to unfair.) Unless I'm misunderstanding what you guys mean.

Also if you hold up as you pick up the keys you get an additional message and extra points for 1-ups
If you hold up as you catch the key at the end of a stage, the game tells you 'Nice catch!'
Gargoyle's Quest 1 and 2 and Demon's Crest are other games in the Ghost and Goblin universe that you may want to check out for difficult games.
That was painful....but awesome as well
Sometimes you sound like Grover.
Thanks for introducing "Ghost & Goblins" for the Super Nintendo. Awesome.
You get more continues if you get more money bags
RYU HELLO NEIGHBOR 2 WAS JUST SHOWN ON TWITCH AND I REALLY NEED YOU TO PLAY IT!

I instinctively hit the thumbs up button every time you beat a boss.
Ryu I love your content!!
1. Get the knife
2. Get the knife
3. Get the knife
It's so strange to watch this video in 2020 and hear Ryu drop f-bombs.
