Same! In fact, I just donated my grandmother’s exact platter last month to the Goodwill Laura was shopping in. I wonder if she bought the one I donated:)
This was a great fun video! You are delightful! I like your style and your way of showing styling with your buys, your thoughts. Thanks so much for adding happiness, interest locations... I'm in Florida! And, a classey way of thrifting for vintage. Even to the way you dress, present yourself. You are dear! I'm a 77 year old woman who owns and is purging many things I see in thrift shops. You btmring humanity back to the belongings!❤
Just FYI, that's a traditional pattern called "Well and Tree", and the indented pattern indeed was designed to allow the juices of the cooked meat to be captured and reserved (to baste the meat if it should begin to dry out, or for later use).
The silver tray with the design you love has a dual purpose. When the roast meat is being carved the juice runs along the branches and catches in the bowl part of the design. This deliciousness can then be added to the gravy boat for a lip smacking gravy bonus. The Arzberg double bowl could be for putting hot water to keep soup warm or ice to keep cold items like butter or cream from melting in the top dish. Great haul as usual. I love the concept. When you’ve done every Goodwill you might start over again or do all the Habitat for Humailties! Whatever, I’ll be there
I think that white dish that was stacked inside of another bowl is a butter dish. If there’s room below the insert, you put your ice there and then your butter goes in the top. A “proper” butter knife would go on the plate below. I always love your videos, but this is gonna be fun! Be safe in your travels.
Love this style of video where you show how you staged the items throughout the video giving more detail about each item. I learned a lot “ as usual “ 😊. You offer such a fun mix of videos, can’t wait for the next !
As a former decro painter who has left a trail of ducks, geese, apples, strawberries, and, yes, bunnies, with no hint of guilt, if I find a great piece of wood with 1980's "country" decor, I completely strip them. I must send you a huge Thank You. After seeing you use your Hulken bag, I immediately bought one. Today the two of us ventured out on a trail of yard sales. Over sand, gravel, railroad tracks, cracked sidewalks my Hulken buddy was a fantastic partner. I was stopped numerous times to ask about it.
@@mtpeacock I chose the large one and love it. When I returned from my junkin trip, I wiped it off with a Clorox wipe, folded it and slid it back in the box. Easy to store.
Wow! I live in Canada but was born in Finland. That Finel piece is beautiful! I'm so jealous! That is certainly hard to come by especially in a thrift store. Great find!
One of my favorite summer vacations was when we went to every thrift shop in a 60-mile area. The next summer, while helping a relative redecorate, we went to every antique shop within a three parish area. The hunt for beautiful items at great prices is addictive.
Your comment regarding animals was so on point. Last Christmas I was moved to add brass reindeer/deer to my holiday decorations. After a gentle polish and some fringed silk ribbons around their necks, the 5 I’d found were the hit of all my celebrations. Come January, a quick ribbon color change and my 2 families are still collecting compliments!
So excited to get the notification of a new video! I have mobility issues so it's difficult for me to get out and about. So, I feel like I'm shopping right along side you.
And it's much cheaper too, I started to participate to auctions online, you can make great deals but you buy things you don't really need . I love shopping with Laura I don't always agree with her choices but she has impeccable taste. I hope one day I'll be able to join her to a trip overseas. 💗
Thanks Laura for doing more thrift store videos again. I love that you travel and buy things in exotic places but I like it best when you do local thrift store shopping like the rest of us. Makes me feel like you're one of us. Love your style and taste.....keep it up.
Back in the 70’s and 80’s great brass was so easy to find and reasonable. It has clearly stood the test of time. None of our adult drink glasses match. Its fun to have several sizes and shapes on display. Those trays and the animal watercolors are amazing!
Love the shopping to styling shots! Great to see how you styled something up right after you put it in your cart! The deer butts made me laugh! And that last piece of pottery in the video- love the pattern on that one! Great series! TY
I think the Arzberg container was actually designed as a double walled chiller. Ice water would help keep things like cream cheese or dips from getting too warm.
Fantastic scores! I never would have thought of using oil lamps as plant propagates, what a great idea! (PS, as a glass artist, thinking you could perhaps switch “hand blown” to “mouth blown” or just “blown”.)
Thank you, Jesse, for giving Laura the inspiration to do the tour of Goodwills! Loved your fornat of this video. I imagine it took some time to edit and research. You made some fabulous finds, and I'd love to drink a martini out of that glass too! Thanks!

Probably not much sadly! I won’t be able to make it to all of the locations this summer if I stop to shop for clothes 😂 It takes up so much time. But if something catches my eye I’ll share it for sure! Our local goodwills send all sterling and high quality jewelry to either the boutique locations or sell online so unfortunately I don’t look at the jewelry counter anymore 😩
The wooden piece you got is (I'm almost certain) is made from a cypress knee. It is common tree here at the lake I live near, Caddo Lake. Cypress like out in the water or around the edge. The knees are a part of their root system that stick up around the base of the tree allowing the root to breathe. I LOVE your necklace!

Hi Laura…great idea to visit every thrift store🙏👍 those odd little glasses are, I think, Brandy Snifters….had some once… enables someone to drink the brandy which is usually only a small amount at bottom of a glass and ‘warmed’ by their hand traditionally, by sipping from the glass ‘straw’….and the Cockerel napkin holder would appeal to so many people for the kitchen or breakfast table or a country cottage/ home setting…. Enjoyed this first trip 👏. Sue (UK)… ps…keep learning about glass ( book to get ‘Twentieth Century Glass’… available from online book sellers… very Comprehensive!!)
I so very much agree about studio pottery! So overlooked and there's so much gorgeous stuff out there. Even here in Australia I can pick up some amazing pieces for less money than a standard gift shop sells factory pieces, and they add such a 'vibe' to a simple vignette. Also, there was an ammonite wall vase at 15:58 I was shouting at you for, I guess you didn't hear me over the heart eyes you were making for the martini glass 😆 (which btw is a knock-off of iittala kastehelmi)
Great day thrifting! I love a lot of items you found. The Chinese pot with a dragon, flowers and the purple in it is gorgeous. The handkerchief vases are beautiful. Just love shopping with you. Glad you are taking this challenge of hitting all the Good Will’s in your area.
I'm glad Jesse's idea is coming to life! I loved all your finds but I absolutely loved the Lunares candlesticks! I have a thrifted dancer figure by the same designer that is one of my favorite pieces in my home. I'm going to watch to see if you bring them to your website.
The problem with silver plate is that the “ patina” or oxidation could eat right into the base metal, also called corrosion. I like to see if the piece is in good shape by having it polished.
I have a question... for the lovely but dirty folded/handkerchief vase, do you wash by hand or run it through a light setting in the dishwasher? I usually do by hand, but worry it might slip from my hands. I love those two trays, i know some aren't happy that you chose to upcycle, but I agree with your choice. These were very dated and needed new life. I suspect you are bringing them back to their natural wood look since you love that natural, organic look (can'twait!). My style is a wee bit different than yours, I would likely paint and decoupage (maybe even distress a bit 😮!). You saved 2 beautiful trays from the landfill, for sure. I love this series. 😊 ~Laura, too...Washington. ❤
Large silverplate platter. I grew up with this exact one. Our roast turkey sat on it and the divet held the juices…

Great video Laura. Love the combo: shop, car talk and staging.
The vase that was next to the Wooden vase was from West Elm!
This is my favorite format that you've done on your videos. 🎉 Great work! Hi from Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri
I agree!!
Laura, I always love 💕 your thrifting tours, especially your enthusiasm! 😂
that was fun, got second hand dopamine. Love the Finnish vase and Princess House glass pieces, wonder if they are oil lamps missing the glass wicks 🧐
What great hauls! Loved everything you found ❣️ I think the white bowl with lid is a butter keeper. 🤷🏻♀️
The problem with silver plate is that the “ patina” or oxidation could eat right into the base metal, also called corrosion. I like to see if the piece is in good shape by having it polished.
I love studio pottery also and I’m glad it’s undervalued. 😏
❤❤❤❤❤ love this goodwill venture
The silverplated carving platter is for meat. The design is to drain the juices away so you can spoon these juices on the meat
One should not carve on the silver. Rather carve on a wooden board and lay the impeccably carved bird, joint, or ham on the silver tray.
Friday sunshine with you!
Happy Friday!!
I would use warm (not boiling water) and denture cleaner tablets.
