For all those digging at his personality, he’s not American, he’s English and therefore way more reserved. We don’t do loud, excitable high fives all the time. This story is about a normal guy trying to achieve his dream so I believe way more of us identify with Adam.
I am from the Midwestern US and his reserved style with a focus on passing along information without all the dramatic fluff sits well with me. Quite the nice break from bro-speak.
Yeah, watching American MTB channels with their constant "Wooo!", "Bro!", "SICK!" etc. is funny but also a bit strange to me. That's not at all how people are in Europe, and it comes across as fake to me to be honest. Obviously I'm not saying it *is* fake but that's how it seems when you're not used to it, it seems like people exaggerating/acting for their video. I think it's a general culture difference between the US and Europe though, you see a similar thing in documentaries, TV shows etc. If you listen to the narrator on American TV shows it's like everything has to sound "Bad ass" or like an action movie trailer, regardless of the topic of the TV show. You can have a "Undercover Boss", a fishing show or whatever you'll have this "bad ass" movie trailer voice narrating it which just sounds wrong to me. It's like everything over there has to sound awesome, amazing, sick, bad ass etc. at all times. Even boring reps in a gym have to sound amazingly fun it seems. If anything *doesn't* sound "OMG AWESOME!" it seems to be seen as the person being negative or boring. lol To me it just makes him seem like a normal human being. Not everything is fun or amazing and that's alright as well..
I'm following this with great interest. As a 50yr old average athlete who currently has a broken bone in her left hand and when able to get back on the MTB and wishing to improve for the summer season of local Enduro races here in Canterbury NZ this is an awesome series.Thank you to all involved. Adam I think your doing great you will get there.
Well done Adam! Don't lose heart kid!... If all it took was 3 months to 'build' a champ then just about anyone could be Cinderella. I truly believe that that extra edge you're looking for already exists within you. It's the fine line between believing and knowing. Find that 'know' & then you'll 'show'.....Of course, I could be spouting complete bollocks! 😉 You show em dude!
well.. i wouldn't measure your progress in your placement for starters. I mean the lineup field could be a lot better this year. Who knows? Meassure your progress in your own accomplishments instead. i.e. your times. I am a swimmer and I don't meassure my progress in winning races i meassure them in what time I get. If i did a personal best time but got dead last I still made progress. Or am I thinking about this in the wrong way?
Arvid Lundgren well in mountainbiking You cannot measure the progress so accurately because the enviroment is always changing, the same route can be very fast when it's dry and totally opposite in wet conditions. Even if you have one test track that you always ride, then being faster at this track doesn't have to mean that You'll be faster at races, because it may only mean that you get to know this particular test track better. Its possible to measure fitness very accurately, but not technical skills
Szymon Pomorski Yeah true, I still think that he shouldn't be disappointed cuz as many ppl were better than him as last year. I don't think that's a good way of measuring it. Even in the lack of another way. If you don't know your competitors like pros do you shouldn't look at that. You should on this case measure it in timed courses at home maybe and stuff like that.
In terms of personal progress that makes sense, but if you are trying to be a better racer it does come down to placing. If the rest of the field stepped up their game an equal amount as you, a PR time doesn't matter at the end of the day.
Adam is actually a solid rider, after the last video with todd I thought he was a joey haha dude shreds hard. But yeah only thing I would suggest is to keep your head up and focus on the effort (process) not on the outcome. Thats what most sports psychologists will tell you.
After three months of training u want this guy in the podium? It's a program not magic. Let's see next season, with property alimentation, psychological couching and training program. He will be in the first five places can bet....
Yeah, he still has to settle in. Even a great bike takes some time before it becomes an extension of one's body. I liked that he was aggressive enough to lose some time flexing the heck out of the frame. Better to start off a little harsh than hesitant, imo. He seems confident on the bike and just needs to acclimate and smooth it out a bit.
That guy needs a serius sponsorship not for that series i mean like a real sponsorship ... That guy is faaast and Looks very komfortable on the Bike and Just loose :)
message to him. STOP complaning about every thing. You have an expensive bike, a great coach and you met yoann barelli . If I was you I would enjoy the moment in the beautiful canyon frazer
Sam Hill is a once-in-a-generation legend. He does many things that most others don't - win world cups and EWS on flat pedals, taking inside lines and making them fast, etc. There's a reason why top podium finishers these days are all clipped in - it's all or nothing. They're looking to gain every advantage they can get, like getting an extra 5-10% power out of every pedal stroke, or saving tenths of a second here and there by always having their feet planted. Dabbing a foot is not an option.
I think this series would be a lot better if he had more of a personality. Doesn't even seem excited. If I was recently given a bike for sponsorship, a chance to race around the world, a support team and camera man who cares, you bet I would be excited and loving on the brand like crazy. I guess we are not all the same but for me I hope I get the chance some day and can't wait to share my excitement.
T P the guy is probably nervous and wonders wether he is deserving of the chance he’s been given. Being comfortable and then being able to be relaxed enough to joke around and in high spirits can take time for some people. You can see when he’s hitting lines fast and is confident he is more relaxed and happy. Its interesting to watch.
This series pisses me off knowing how much work some people put in every year and who are actually fast riders but receive no support. The companies sponsoring him should have put the money somewhere else.
The whole point was to support an "average joe" amongst the pros to see if support could help them advance to the top.. If someone "faster" can advance to the top on his own then they will get the support via sponsors. Go ride your bike and then drink a beer while contemplating on the fact that at least pinkbike put out some reality tv worth watching!
@ rercowie77, why should they put their money some where else? Because you think you deserve this more than him? Did you not watch the first video? Did you not see how much time and his own money he has put into this? They should have found an amateur that was faster to support? He is a humble guy who clearly really appreciates this and is giving it his all but no they shouldn't support him.
My brother in law had a great childhood with tons of things others didn't have. Yet he constantly tells his mother she ruined his life and constantly tells other family members that the money his father worked hard for and saved should be used to buy my brother in law his own business or company and that his father needs to stop spending his savings because it should go to him when his father dies. All of the people complaining that he isn't worth the support or that he isn't showing enough gratitude or excitement (hint: he's humble) remind me of and sound exactly like my brother in law. It's ok to give someone something as long as that person is them. I see my brother in law in every whining dick that posts here. Angry at this guy getting support? Go walk in front of a train.

can't say it better, simply a normal guy :) !!

@@gnawershreth Englishmen sip tea, Americans shoot guns. JK, but American culture is more agro by nature
He's actually really funny, if you got good banter

Yoann: I think you're gonna kick our ass today.
Adam: Maybe.

Great show, keep it up buddy.
Very interested to see how things pan out!
1:56 how does he do that drift before turning i to a berm??
I really releate to this story!
Looks pretty quick to me, what do they expect after 3 months? To beat top 3 Enduro pros?

Really nice series🤙
what about the mental side of thinks guys?
We want more and more frequent content please! :-)
when is the next episode?
so far once a month
Reason why he didnt get better compared to everyone else, is because everyone else is now properly training as well.
Keep it up!!! Also a good diet could help!!!
everytime i hear yoann talks, claude from along came polly comes into my head
soooo gooood!
That guy needs a serius sponsorship not for that series i mean like a real sponsorship ... That guy is faaast and Looks very komfortable on the Bike and Just loose :)
Dear storyteller: this is not a crimestory, so don‘t set it up like it would be...
It makes watching the video totally odd
Believe

He's got new tools in the bag but needs to learn how to use them, which takes time. Next step is to ditch those flat pedals, IMHO.
JTMarlin8 tell that to sam hill and Connor fearon

Goes and Pre rides the course and doesn't podium.. Pinkbike hyped up this guy.
you cant train "balls to the walls"
Good rider but terrible personality
JACKYOUNG probably a nice guy in person and not a attention seeker
