Just picked up the novablast 5 two days ago. Which is my first asics I've ever had. Blown away by how good and versatile they are. Totally worth the $240 aussie dollars I paid.
@@TheFODRunner funny I just came from your Hooka Mach 6 video to this one. I had to decide between the Hooka and the Novablast 5 yesterday :D .. I went with the Novablast and I think I made the right decision seeing your review here as well. Awesome shoe but I think I get me the Mach 6 on a discount as well as they have a mit more "pace" and fun.
Hi Andy, Merry Christmas and Happy new year... 🎄 I was the one that told you about Victus Gel and I am glad to see that it is working for you. Getting enough carbs in during race is very important. It makes a huge difference. In addition to high carb, they also have substation salt which solves the hydration part as well. Also, I am glad Novablast 5 is versatile like the Novablast OG. I'll probably pick up a pair in 2025.
Yes you did! I had tested some of their before and after drinks before and I really enjoyed them but never the gels... really glad you recommended them! Thanks!
Great to see your Novablast reviews. You were the one who introduced me to the Novablast line. Back in 2019 or 2020 with the Novablast 1. Now I have about 9 pairs of the Novablast line.
Thanks Andy. Merry Christmas! Unfortunately, I've got an unwanted break from running. My lower back, lowes discs and sicatic nerve looks are oppose my running seriosly. So needed to take break trying to recover and give my lower back some more time to recover or reset and hope will be able to get back running in the new year. Wish you all the best for 2025, firstlhy the most improtant to stay healthy and fit so that you can pursue your running targets.
Combining my fueling and hydration allowed me to really push my fitness limits at the marathon. Being able to constantly meter out my intake so I have the constant stream of fluid/carbs means there is lower chance for GI stress, you remove the peaks and valleys with regular gel bombs. The added weight is one thing, but I feel it's more than compensated by not having to deal with aid stations and the chaos that ensues at them. The other problem is you HAVE to have a robotic system for drinking in place, if you get into a bad mental/physical space and start to skip your sips you've now lost both hydration and fueling. I still take a gel or 2 at key race points and often suck on chews for extra electrolytes/carbs, but 2/3's is now liquid carbs.
Yeah it makes the world of difference doesn’t it… I still plan on taking fluids during training the practice… for now though I’m just trying to get the right “gel”… when I’ve “over tested” them and feel comfortable, I’ll add in the fluids 👊
I just purchased the Novablast 5 suggestions are they are an easy long run shoe but so light good for tempo runs, they are softer than the Gel Nimbus 25. Getting in a gel around 5 miles in means you can keep going glad you have found one that works Merry Christmas Andy and thanks for your content during the year.
I was not a fan of the Novablast 3's Andy but I think I'll give the Novablast 4/5 another chance as you and others who I'd trust are reccomending them. I need a solid daily as my Boston 12's are flattening out. Great shoe too.
Amazing. Glad to see you survived the boars. How did you feel the two days after the run? Did the ability to get so much fuelling in lead to better recovery?
Thanks! Yes amazing, well worth fuelling for the recovery as much as the performance on the run... you can see why people can train more aggressively these days with the fuelling and shoe advancements
Seen being chased into dusk by some anrgys boars, the FOD runner was never seen again😂. Seriously don't underestimate the adrenaline rush from your flight or fight, worth doing another gel test when you're less pumped.
Really interesting video, looking for a daily trainer that can do a bit of speed work for a second marathon next year. Likely this or the EVO SL. Hope it was a great Christmas - best for 2025.
Funny but think ever other review on this have seen suggests this is just a slow plodder. Maybe says more about the runner and the intent than the shoe given these paces. Done 2 runs in my NB5 so far and does seem more "nimble" than I can recall in previous versions. OK not really a "speed shoe" per se but if you want to put some effort in then clearly will "go".
@ yet to be convinced about the shoes. When l look back at the times I ran could shoes really have bettered them by 5% ? I’m not convinced. It would have put me in international class and I was not that talented 🥴
@ let me tell you..version 3 I thought was ok I love version 4 and I’ve got some great mileage out of them which is very important! Keep up great work pal
Fantastic workout Andy, I reckon Adrenalin helped 😂. I've struggled with fueling too, so I'm interested in the victus gels. Merry Christmas to you and your family
I don’t want to sound like an arsehole, but I don’t understand how anyone go out on a run close to nightfall, run on poorly lit areas, with cars, and it doesn’t have any light or reflective clothes! In any case, happy holidays 🎄
You are the only one I've seen who thinks the Nova 5s are good for up tempo. Everyone else I've seen says they're too soft for that, but good for long runs. I just got mine. I'll see.
Yeah, I think we are spoiled for choice with a variety of shoes these days. My history with the v1 is a do it all shoe right down to 400m reps…. I always like to test to see if the newest version can still perform like the original! This one can
This is the most ridiculous response I’ve read in a while. He’s clearly tried various gels and has been very open in admitting that this has been a challenge in terms of getting enough nutrition on board. His videos are authentic and educational, so why comment in such a negative light? Totally unnecessary. Get back to watching the Yorkshire Vet and moaning about the price of bread.

@ awesome! The machs are well worth picking up too on discount!
I added the Novablast 5 into my lineup after seeing your review a few weeks ago. It’s my favorite daily trainer!
Merry Christmas, Andy 😊
Ah that’s so awesome! Great to hear! Merry Christmas! 🎄
Finding right gels/energy is so key! Also right shoes 😁
Merry Christmas 🎄
Absolutely!! Merry Christmas 🎄

Ah amazing!!! Thanks for your continued novablast video watching!
I used Victus for my half in October and liked them. Their “During” mixes are good as well and have a few flavor options.
Awesome! I need to check out their during mix!
Merry Christmas Andy 🎉
Merry Christmas!

Happy Christmas Andy, Great that you are enjoying the Novablast again, I think you introduced everyone to them back in 2020
Merry Christmas buddy! They’ve been amazing, loved most models bar the last one but it’s so good that these are back to their best!
Happy Christmas Andy. 🎄🎅☃️
Thanks for the vlog. I love the Novablast. Great value for money. Looking forward to picking up version 5 now in Jan. 🤝
Happy Christmas buddy! Don’t hesitate when they release, grab a pair!
Have you tried gu liquid energy gels? They go down easier than water, my new favourite gel for sure.
Great video Andy
Thanks 🙏
Andy - Happy Christmas to you. Well done on another great year of running and vlogging. Just one question on this vid though - why no Hi-Viz?
Happy Christmas! Its no excuse but I always forget, I am pretty useless...

Merry Christmas to you and your family, enjoy the short holidays
Thanks Thomas, Merry Christmas to you too! 🎄
happy holiday andy wish you and your family all the best
Happy holidays!
Well done on getting it done in the dark.
Thanks 🙏

Nb3 put me off the line, superblast 2 seems interesting but im probably going with puma velocity, adidas evo sl and/or pegasus plus next year.
Well worth trying to see if you feel they have improved!
The one shoe you only need. This can do 5k tempo to a Marathon! It’s amazing
💯
Would you say that Mach is more suited to forefoot runners and Novablast more for heel runners ?
Was the speed the result of the shoes, the gel or the darkness setting in and the thought of wildlife possibly coming after you? 😮
All of the above 😂 but I’m so impressed at the range on these things it’s unreal
Morning all.....!!! Merry Christmas!!! Happy Holidays!!!!. Like to Andy.
Have a great Christmas!

Haha! Yeah I figure I need to be a bit calmer for the next one 😂 gels ordered
Yep I love the nova 5 as well thanks Andy merry Xmas
Merry Christmas 🎄

This will be a good option until SL comes out in March, if it lives up to the hype!
@TheFODRunner Mixed opinions on the EVO SL, you seem pretty happy with the Novablast for a bit of pace work as well as easy running?
@ yeah for me it does everything!
@@TheFODRunner - Sounds great, appreciate the reply!
Edinburgh is nearly sold out, fast & flat course
Yeah I’m running that next year, can’t wait
I'm in!
Are you doing the FoD half in March??
Possibly!
Has to be newport andy.❤

Yeah, as we discussed, you can probably do most paces in most shoes, it’s a choice I guess isn’t it! Thankfully, these flow really nicely!
That’s the fear of hedgehogs for you!
😂
I wish there were gels 35 years ago - they are a performance game changer , we simply had to hope we’d get to the end with some glycogen left 😂
Yeah we are very lucky, along with the shoes as well!
@ yet to be convinced about the shoes. When l look back at the times I ran could shoes really have bettered them by 5% ? I’m not convinced. It would have put me in international class and I was not that talented 🥴
How is grip - is it best to wait until TR version
I’ve honestly had no issues at all… run on the wet and dry and it’s been fine. No shoe is good on wet cobblestones… but otherwise, no issues
Had the 3 and 4
Delighted to hear this version is so good
The colour ways are dismal!
Yeah this version is great! Hopefully some better colours in the new year!
@ let me tell you..version 3 I thought was ok
I love version 4 and I’ve got some great mileage out of them which is very important!
Keep up great work pal
It's your fitness and the urgency of waning daylight, not the shoes, but it seems the NB5 isn't getting in your way.
Yes the urgency of daylight was a real panic haha!
I think you should be fine with the wildlife, the whole vegetarian thing means they can sense you are a friend
I hope so! Although I’ve had a few boar charge at me if they’re being territorial so the message doesn’t get through to all of them haha
Fantastic workout Andy, I reckon Adrenalin helped 😂. I've struggled with fueling too, so I'm interested in the victus gels.
Merry Christmas to you and your family
Thanks buddy, adrenaline definitely played a factor!! The victus gels so far are 10/10
Only the boar to worry about Andy 😂
Well, there are some weirdos around here too 😂 but yes mainly the boar haha
I don’t want to sound like an arsehole, but I don’t understand how anyone go out on a run close to nightfall, run on poorly lit areas, with cars, and it doesn’t have any light or reflective clothes!

Pathetic with the gels and completely unnecessary. It is all between your ears. You are trying to be a diabetic?
Alright mate 👊 hope you cheer up over Christmas 🎄
