Thank you so much for these Z3 videos. I only found your channel yesterday but am learning so much. I have a very similar Z3 to you (but in black) that my dad left to me when he passed away 3 years ago. He absolutely loved tinkering with the car and driving it with the top down on the occasional day that it wasn't raining here in the UK! I am a complete DIY beginner but am determined to restore and maintain it as best as I can, both to honour his memory and also to enjoy it myself when the weather permits. They are beautiful cars and deserve to be looked after!
@@richardd9634 Thank you for your kind words and sorry for your loss. They are indeed beautiful with an ‘old school’ vibe in terms of working on them. I had always liked them and I’m so excited to finally own one. I will be methodically working through this car and replacing worn/corroded items so there should be plenty of content to come.
Thanks for these very useful videos. I have just bought a 2002 Z3 2.2i which has much in common with your car, so every video gives me ideas about what i need to be doing with my car. I have just purchased the third party 'easy fit' tank straps you mentioned from a member on zroadster so hopefully that resolves the corrosion issues with the originals. One thing that would be helpful for me would be tips on jacking up the vehicle and good places to put axle stands. I'm assuming you are using the original jacking points but any advise much appreciated. Best of luck with the Z3 and looking forward to more videos.
From watching another mechanic work on his complete rear rebuild… when he took the diff off (which was the source of his clicking sound due to wear) he showed the inside of the cover an you could see how over the 23-24 years how the level had dropped. You could clearly see where it use to be when new. So the 1.3 makes perfect sense.
I've had 9 Z3's, and the spare wheel has been in a similar condition on all of them. Some remove the cage and wheel but I've had need of it in the past and much prefer it to the temporary foam cans you can buy. I also like how the Z3 has a spare buy the Z4 doesn’t. Loving the tennis ball solution by the way 😂
@@letshavaluc Thanks for this. I’m going to buy a decent secondhand space saver wheel and keep the spare. I won’t be driving this car in the rain so a good replacement should never corrode again, especially as the car lives in my garage!
Strange about the oil content being out. Same happened on my Smart, I've had it from 6 months old (2012) so I know it's not been drained before. When I changed it there was only about 70% of what it should have been. Very odd. Another job done anyway. 👍

Love the tennis ball as a short term fix. 😊

@@johnboylong40 I think I know the very video! They do suffer from some ‘driveline shunt’.
The bag has definitely helped the spare wheel. Mine was almost corroded right through
Nice job.

Another job done anyway. 👍
A gearbox version would be good!
@@aaronobrien7821 It’s on the list!
