    Hi! Did you ever find a protocol on the modern multi-protocol OpenTX/EdgeTX radios that will bind with the stock flight controller/receiver in the XK mini warbirds?

    • @GroundControlRC
      @GroundControlRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Steve!
      XK uses many protocols just like all these other branded micro planes.
      I think they just use whatever they have or can acquire.
      Sometimes the protocol is supported in OpenTX / Multi-Module and sometimes not.
      I have since retired the XK A220 P40 but I was using Protocol V911S / Sub-Protocol E119 for that plane.
      I believe that's the same protocol I'm using for the XK A280 P51D.
      The XK J3 Cub used MT99XX / A180.
      You just never know.
      Some of these boards will actually use an external satellite receiver though so that may be an option.
      It would be nice if that was always an option ;-)

      @@GroundControlRC I had been using the FlySky FS-A8S RX to bind to my XK T28 and XK Spitfire for the past 1 year and that was working fine, and since I just recently bought a new Radiomaster TX running EdgeTX and containing the latest multi-protocol RF module, I can now ditch the RX and bind directly to the stock AIO FC board. These planes seem to be pretty solid, had to pic up the P-51 at my hangar too ;)
    But at 7:53 it might have G-stalled though on its wing in a slight tailwind, or something, I don't knoe. Small size and scale do not usually match when it comes to great characteristics 😅 also the ailerons being at the side, not at the tips on the wings can affect to some point.Or maybe there were some thermals affecting the plane.
    I found the gyro modes unusable, well, atleast in indoors 😂 Gyro affects the flying too much perhaps. But it's fun to watch these reviews those have some real thought out in them :)

    • @GroundControlRC
      @GroundControlRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you much Keppis!
      Yes, these inboard ailerons are sometimes problematic.
      I guess they put them so far inboard so they can use a singe servo without the need for rigging.
      I've also found that they frequently dial in too much rudder which can stall it in a turn since these lightweight planes have very little momentum to maintain their speed.
      They're fun to try an keep in the air especially in manual mode ;-)
      See you in the Air!

    How does this compare to the eachine ones? Better aerobatic ability, im assuming?

    • @GroundControlRC
      @GroundControlRC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good Question.
      I actually gave a pass on this one.
      I think the Eachine Mini Warbirds are much better.
      I also think the Eachine Mini P51D is the pick of the litter.
      Very stable and it has the best thrust to weight ratio of any brushed motor plane I've flown to date.
      The Eachine Mini Warbirds will also bind to a Multi-Protocol TX.
      Flying them with a Hobby-Grade TX makes them so much easier to fly.
      I've been eyeing the TopRC Hobby 450mm Wingspan Warbirds.
      I think that extra 50mm on the Wingspan may make those even more stable.
      I hope that helps and I'll see you in the Air!

    It's interesting that you say that yours was the quietest mini gearbox plane you've flown because the one I got today rattles like mad as if there are some teeth missing. I took the motor apart but couldn't see anything :(

    • @GroundControlRC
      @GroundControlRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Thomas!
      Yeah, there are definitely some differences in these planes and they way they are assembled.
      Apparently, the person that assembled mine got the motor and gearbox aligned very well ;-)
      The Mini Cessna and Mini P47 I have are the same way, very noisy.
      I use dry lubricant on those gears and it does help.

    I have this XK P40... A bit hard to turn it, when i try to turn with ailerons.. Then it does not turn sharp like the Eachines, so i need to use the rudder for sharper turning.. So this p40 definitely need the rudder....
    Also this one's prop just easily pop off...

    • @GroundControlRC
      @GroundControlRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I found that you can't really fly this one bank-n-yank as it really needs some rudder to turn well.
      The prop does come off fairly easy on impact but I would rather that happen than damage the gearbox.
      I couldn't believe how quiet and smooth the gearbox is compared to other Micro Planes with a motor and gearbox ;-)

    hi ground control. nice looking plane . was a bit concerned on your first flight the prop brock off? is it a pusher prop plane? as cant see the full spec on it yet .in your opinion, how does it compare to the p51 and the fu corsair mate?

    • @GroundControlRC
      @GroundControlRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Kelvin!
      It's a tractor motor and prop.
      It did a bit of a tip stall there didn't it ;-)
      Yep, when it hit the ground it snapped the prop in half.
      Definitely not as good as the Eachine Mini Warbirds.
      This one has a smaller wingspan as well at 384mm instead of the 400mm the Eachine Mini Warbirds have.
      So it also has higher wing loading as not as good slow flight capability.
      The biggest problem with this one is XK chose to do Elevator Mixing with the Throttle ;-)
      I've never seen that before and it's not good.
      See you in the Air!

      One of my assistants has already flown on camera when she was 4.
      She flew the FlyBear Red Baron Biplane and did a fantastic job of Piloting ;-)
