- Season 05, Episode 02: first powder day of 2024 at snowbird! the beginning of a long and hopefully powerful storm cycle has hit utah and we went up to little cottonwood canyon to ski at my all time favorite mountain, snowbird. the snow was just absolutely incredible and it got better as the day went on. heres to more snow and more days at the bird!

Was that Sunday? We skied The Bird (Monday), Alta (Tuesday) and Solitude (Wednesday), missing the big dump this weekend but had a BLAST!!!

Was at Alta while you were on the Bird. Not sure what time you left LCC but took us 2.5 hrs to get down to the valley. Can’t wait till ya get back from Aspen and get some epic vids in the cottonwoods.
Damn haha I left like right at 4pm so that was part of the problem but crazy traffic either way!

Magnificent skiing. The end of your days brings up a doubt that I have - are you for or against the Little Cottonwood Gondola?
As an outsider, my view is not relevant; however, I support the gondola.
Went to Alta like 3 weeks ago and it was the first good snow they had in a while on a friday. We sat in the parking lot trying to leave and not moving an inch for 3 hours!! then took us another hour and a half to get back downtown. I dont know what is going on in the canyons this year lol

The one thing I do notice here and there tho, is I think you end up using a lot more energy in the steeps b/c you use a lot of rotation instead of early forward pressure. If you could commit harder into the turn earlier, and smooth those turns out, it would mean less strait lining and less jumpy turns/rotation oriented turns. IE like trying to ride the front point of your outside ski ~ 1 -2 feet infront of your toes through the turn. This also makes it super easy to disengage your tails, and keep your shoulders down the fallline,
Not trying to criticize, that was just a big "unlock" for me personally in the steeps. I went from a lot of breaking, to much smoother/controlled feeling, and def can get a few more runs in.
ya im purposely using a lot of rotation to slash the snow to get more face shots

I was at Alta and it took 4 and a half hours just to get out of the canyon absolute madness.
PS it took me 3 hours to get out of the parking lot.

I’m going to snowbird later in january and i would say im and intermediate at skiing. What runs should i do?
honestly, snowbird isnt really the best for intermediate skiers as its mostly all black diamonds and up, but chip's run on the front side is a long intermediate run and then you could probably find some intermediate to advanced skiing on the backside at mineral basin! or gadzoom to big emma!
RIP I was there last week and left on Friday. How it goes I guess.

I really prefer the video perspective of seeing where you are going and the line you're choosing to ski as opposed to looking backwards. Just my preference as I love your videos.

So is STH an actual run, or is it through the trees. I see that you mainly find the trees on runs so I am just trying to feel out if I could go after STH the next time I am there. I tend to avoid trees unless I am with people.
I dunno really. There’s definitely sections of it that don’t have trees. When I look at the trail map, I’m just skiing in that area that says STH

Been stuck in LCWC before after a long flight from Dallas, ended up bailing and goin to Snow Basin. Sure wasted a lot of time, If it snows overnight or is snowing, I avoid that canyon at all cost.
how long does it take to edit your videos i find the max app to be quite consumming in time placing all the keyframes
It takes me about 4-5 hours. I don’t use the GoPro app for my max editing.
