- Best known for his charisma and pan-Arab populism, Egypt’s Gamal Abdel Nasser, enraptured listeners with his radio broadcasts and inspired enormous pride inside the North African country and well beyond its borders. At the height of his power, during the 1960s, Nasser was known in the West mostly as a regional troublemaker, a gangster of sorts and a dangerous dictator.

This is fascinating ! My mother used to reprimand me for being selfish by calling me "King Farouk". I only had a foggy idea as to what she was referring.
This video is a great historical experience, especially Nasser & Sadat.
What disturbed me though,was the planned public execution of the deposed King Farouk in 1952.

The book I found most illuminating regarding Nasser's (often psychologized explanations) rule, was Kandil Hazem's Soldiers, spies, statesmen. It tells the tale of a 'double dictator', with Nasser and his coterie of security personnel against Field Marshall Amr and his security coterie. I have come to believe that this rift was primarily responsible for failure's in Egypt's politics that stretch to today.

I respect his push for a secular government (which even today is desperately needed in much of the Arab world), and I do think the idea of Pan-Arabism has some merit (as proven by the success of the Arab League), but overall I feel like Nasser gets a little too much love. He was thoroughly a dictator (despite claiming to be a liberator from colonialism), not to mention a war monger. I think many of his ideas (even though they have value in other ways) were largely just excuses for him to gain more power.

I personally have always ranked Gamel Abdel Nasser higher than any other African leader. He is an inspiration and will always be my favorite iconic leader from the motherland

Nasser was undoubtably an honest and decent politic, points unfortunates not usual in Arabic countries. Painfully he died too soon. His mandate was an example to follow, most of his ideas remain in the same place.

Neither Nasser nor any Palestinian has been humiliated by Israel. Anwar Sadat made peace because he could not win a war against the United States. Israel can not win a war without the support of the United States.

the united state never fought in those wars it simple gave Israel weapons and the Soviet union gave weapons to the Arabs in fact in the war of attrition the USSR fought against Israel and Israel still won + the USSR gave two times more military aid to the Arabs then the USA gave to Israel
Only after 1968 did the us really support Israel until then it had an embargo on selling weapons to Israel and also in the Yom kippur war the US spend only two billion dollars on Israel while the USSR spend much more on Egypt in the war it spend 4 billion and before it more than 10 billion while the USA sold weapons to Israel it didn't gave Israel money before the war unlike the USSR with Egypt

While video is very good, there are several mistakes. For example The Brotherhood was actually involved in the coup against the king, the shot actually hit Abdel Nasser while he was giving a speech in Alexandria it did not miss, it was broadcasted nationally and his reaction is what made him a Hero in the public eye, in addition there's some confusion about how much of the military Gamal actually had control over, there were several power struggles and even coup attempts like in 1962 with the man who actually had the loyalty of the military Abdel Hakim Amer,
in addition, he did not just find a ploy to shift public opinion in 67', that was always his goal from the get go, there were no preparations for a secret strike, as the diplomatic cables show, Lyndon Johnson did not authorize a strike because there were no threat, indeed in 67' about a third of the military was stationed in Yemen, the only thing Gamal did back then that was counted as provocation was the closing of the Tiran Straits in response to aggression on the natives of the occupied territories.
He was also seminal in the liberation of Algeria, Iran from their Monarchies and he was opposed by the Monarchies in the gulf that were placed there by the British, even the Moroccan monarch betrayed him. The jordanian monarchy as well betrayed him twice.

They are not eutopeans, they were just an extremely ancient important region in world history where several different empires conquered each other and Egypt became an important passage way between different empires so it is natural their ethnicity would be a mix of everything, much like Iranians as well, but is not reasonable to say they are europeans, they can be be both Africans and Arabs at the same time it also prob depends on which region of the country they live in

Whether or not Egypt and her allies were ready for war at any particular point they all had massive militarizes compared to Israel. The 1948 war was where the Arabs had the greatest advantage as they could freely buy weapons and the Israelis had to buy them clandestinely and smuggle them in.. They had 2 tanks and the air force was equally weak. (There is a picture of the whole IAF in 48). Israels greatest advantage was probably that they had nowhere to run and the Arabs did.
Israel outnumbered the Arabs in 1948, almost twice as much in the final stages of the war. The reason Israel was able to defeat the Arabs even when they outnumbered them for example in 1967 and Syria failing to hold the front in 1973 is because we had corruption, nepotism, poor military coordination etc.
it’s not always about numbers, Israel’s smaller but more well trained and commanded army was obviously capable to defeat our lager but disorganised and poorly commanded armies
