Teaching English In Thailand 🇨🇷 | The Ugly Truth 😭 | Hiring Discrimination

  • I thought of making this video based on my personal experience as an experienced non-native teacher having an Indian passport. To add, the challenges which I have heard of non-native teachers face here in Thailand to get an English teaching job, especially if you are a person of color having brown and black skin.
I really hope this video will bring an insight of the hiring discrimination which is still very present till date post COVID era. Even if you check out some of the top teaching job hunting sites, there is a clear level of hiring discrimination between native and non-native teachers. This applies to the pay scale, teaching geographical location, appearance, and the list goes on.
I just hope the Thai Education Ministry can try to reform the hiring process of non-native teachers and also give them an equal employment opportunity when it comes to getting the same pay scale as a native teacher, more job openings for non-native teachers in Bangkok, accepting teachers from India who have a clear neutral accent.
It's time to put an end to these discriminatory hiring policies towards non-natives which are still kept enforced by these international schools, public school, language centers, and even teaching job websites in Thailand. Thank you 🙏

Facts! I am Certified in America with 25 years experience and a Masters degree and although The British International school kept advertising over and over indicating there is an opening, they kept denying me stating they prefer teachers with British experience as a cover.

sucks we have to deal with this in 2024. its sad they'd discriminate against you, especially considering how perfect your English is. thank u for ur video as im a black american looking to teach abroad in SEA. Vietnam and Thailand were my top two choices but it seems Vietnam may be the best option

There is definitely discrimination on nationality as well, not just race - some companies actually ask for "white" dominant country passports.

I heard the pay scale in the Philippines is really low. Yeah, you can get BPO jobs there easily. Since, Philippines is the number one global call center hub for US accounts.

Nope us South Africans r no longer considered native speakers. Thailand is not worth coming to teach in even as a native speaker. The salaries r shite, most of the time no benefits and it's actually become quite expensive to live here. Just not worth it anymore!!
