Maybe it's a scam, but accusing two people of something without much proof, at least in this video, seems premature. The only apparent issue is that you didn't like the apartment they offered you. If you're going to accuse them of something, you should provide several pictures of the apartment and any correspondence where they specified what was promised. Did they guarantee a five-star apartment before you went there? Do you have emails detailing their commitments? If they simply said they would provide you with an apartment, then they haven't necessarily breached the contract. Perhaps it was a misunderstanding.
Something similar happened to me in China at a language school. But, the way I got out of it and turned the tides to my benefit is super crazy and messed up. But, I turned the situation around and made it work out GREAT for me!! How did I get out of it?? Well, the thing is I'm black and many of the parents and students preferred the white teachers. They didn't say it, but when I looked into my white collegues/friends classrooms, their classrooms were full vs. my class which had only a few students. Me and my friends went out to dinner and they told me these things and so did some Chinese friends. As messed up as it was, I didn't complain. Why? Because, even though I was teaching less classes, the school still paid me a BUNCH of money because it was in the contract LOL 🤣. So, while my white colleagues were being overworked and had to teach 30, 40, or even 50 hours compared to my 20 hours, I was out exploring, having tons of fun, enjoying food and going everywhere EVERYDAY with the MONEY to do it ALL!! I kept going out of town and everything! So, that's how I got out of my similar situation. Yes, teaching in Asia in general could be messed up for ANYBODY whether black or white if one is at the wrong type of school. As mentioned above, my white friends got screwed but just in a different way from me. Разумеется, больше вариантов жилья предложено не было, как и оплаты за уроки и отель, в котором вместо оговоренной ночи проживания, я провел пять (!), в ужасном районе, где на улице продают собачатину. I too feel this aswell, I’ve been lucky to be in a decent language centre however they are very dishonest, ignore your issues and not pay you on time. I maybe lucky but I think Vietnam has been a disappointing experience by lack of care and dishonesty to foreigners who live and work here.
@@BakeASnake Yea I haven't heard a lot of good reviews from there. There is one TH-camr that specializes in Vietnam and seems to love it. Can't remember the name now. For Vietnam I would only do international school.
The only horrifying aspect of this story is the sense of entitlement. Like which part was the actual scam here other than she said she was working on getting a better apartment? You tried to scam her by expecting her to pay for the hotel room you wanted. Then you say you pay for your own transport and food? That's how life operates in every country. Then there's the hide to mention a language barrier? Like what the actual fuck? You want to teach English in a foreign fucking country and then suggest English speakers may struggle to communicate with locals? How about learning some fucking Vietnamese to communicate with locals? And my God, the thought of having to adjust to different customs in a foreign country....
Let's go in order. At that time I had already lived in Vietnam for half a year. And I had experience teaching English in the south of the country. And I clearly knew the local rules and realities. Living in a comfortable apartment was very important to me. And we discussed this aspect in advance. I clearly outlined my requirements for the apartment. And yes, she promised to find me a suitable option. We discussed my arrival in advance and the dishonest agent had enough time to prepare an apartment for me. Further, our agreement was that I would only stay in the hotel for twenty-four hours, no more than that. And I was only prepared for that expenditure. Third, we had no language barrier. Everything was clearly defined. Fourth, she offered to buy a refrigerator and a washing machine at my expense... in a horrible rented apartment... what's that if not bullying a foreigner? Fifth, she also didn't pay me for my lessons, which I had already done. Bottom line - her behavior was horrible, and completely disrespectful. And yes, you are absolutely right, it is very important for me to keep my dignity. I have worked in many different countries, including Africa and Nepal. And in no other country in the world I have encountered such horrible and disrespectful treatment of foreign teachers.
I assume he has a visa, but I'm not sure he's working legally. Janny offered me a job as a manager, not as a teacher, and I was originally supposed to work using a business visa. Which, as we know, is not exactly legal, to say the least.
It varies... I've been teaching for 6 years in Vietnam. We cannot generalize as there are better employers in the country and you are paid with your skills, just show them what you got, and they, not all, are willing to give what you deserved.
You know, I'm from Russia and the average salary here is much higher. money isn't that important to me, and I had enough cash to send that Vietnamese girl and her boyfriend to $uck themselves (guess they really enjoy str♤pon) - they sure didn't see that coming. What truly matters to me is our relationship. These people are principles-less and they've revealed their true colors, so I wouldn't advise anyone to get tangled up with them. If you're in Vietnam I guess you understand what I mean
@@TopESLGames Sorry to hear about your experience, which I guess many could relate to. There are really people of their kind, and sharing this is giving others a warning. Again, it varies from one to another. Thanks though, for the alarm.
Your aware eating dog in Vietnam is a cultural thing right? It's part of the Cold/Hot "inner body" as it's called It's also a traditional food north and south on 3 separte holidays in VIetnam
I suppose you can imagine the emotions of a European who is forced to live in a similar part of the city. This employer did not think at all about the feelings of the newly arrived employee.
Why are you using an agent to get you a job and apartment? She already paid for an apartment and you expect her to pay for a hotel room too? I don't understand what the scam is? You had to pay for lunch and transport? Normal You quit, presumably breaking contract, and expected to still get paid? Trying to sell you a motorbike? Also normal.
So, I had already been to Vietnam and during all our negotiations, I made it very clear that it was important for me to live in comfortable conditions. Moreover, I showed photos and videos of the apartments I had stayed in while in another city in Vietnam. I conveyed that my housing should not be of a lower class. To which the woman of questionable morals stated that this was not a problem and that I would only need to spend one night in a hotel. In the end, she did not search for any suitable apartments meeting my criteria. Moreover, she did not pay for the hut where, according to her, I was supposed to live. No, it is not normal for a foreign teacher to pay for food in a school, nor for taxi rides that she organized. Again, this was not my initiative. It was also highly inappropriate for her boyfriend to offer an old, non-working motorcycle when I was staying in a hotel. We had not yet signed the contract, and, of course, she was obliged to pay for my work. I am astonished that there are people who do not value their work, are ready to live in a hut, and justify the actions of such a horrible woman of questionable morals and her boyfriend, a Muslim who betrayed the values of his faith. I thought Muslim people have straight rules about that aspect.

I understand your concern about the fact that such dishonest agents tarnish the image of your country. After all, they represent Vietnam and foreigners judge the country based on their interactions with them. However, it is important for local schools and foreign teachers to know the truth in order to avoid similar situations in the future. To my great fortune, I have met many truly good people in Vietnam and I sincerely hope that over time a favorable atmosphere for foreign teachers will develop in Vietnam, and that agents and schools will not engage in such behavior again and treat foreign teachers with respect going forward.
"Fat and broke" youtube channel actually ran into a similar situation in Vietnam. A business hired him to be a DJ and he worked for at least a month and kept asking to get paid and they kept saying that we will eventually pay you. He quit and they never did pay him his salary.
@@MyLifeThai371 Unfortunately, in Vietnam, many foreign workers are deceived in various fields, and such situations occur quite often. Many dishonest agents and schools create unfavorable conditions, hoping that the foreigner has no choice but to agree to work. These unscrupulous people, whom I talked about in the video, were counting on this. When I announced that I would no longer tolerate the inconvenience, they immediately came to the hotel and tried to persuade me to stay. I think "Jenny" is an alias to hide her identity.
Briefly taught in Nanjing, China, did English Camps in the summer in Slovakia. Did about 15 summers but only two weeks for each summer. 😊
I feel you. To cut the long story short, I left Vietnam because of such kind of people.
I'm sorry that you also had to deal with such dishonest people. I lived in Vietnam for a long time and can say that there are indeed many good and caring people in the country. However, there are also agents and even school directors who deceive foreigners and disgrace their country.
This is definitely a very common experience. Even some bigger companies are doing this now... based on my own experience
Same here
Is that Jenny Nguyen that is using 2 Zalo groups for finding jobs?
No
@@lourensgerber9084 I saw that the Jenny mentioned here was also offering jobs in those 2 groups from Jenny Nguyen.
I think so
This shit happens all over the world China, Russia, Vietnam everywhere.
I too feel this aswell, I’ve been lucky to be in a decent language centre however they are very dishonest, ignore your issues and not pay you on time.
I maybe lucky but I think Vietnam has been a disappointing experience by lack of care and dishonesty to foreigners who live and work here.
Thank you 💕
International schools are a safe bet across Asia. For teaching English, South Korea seems to be the best.
Not in Vietnam. Worked in them.
@@BakeASnake Yea I haven't heard a lot of good reviews from there. There is one TH-camr that specializes in Vietnam and seems to love it. Can't remember the name now. For Vietnam I would only do international school.
Can i apply in Vietnam although i am 53yrs old yet i am Engr Graduate
Unhinged comment
Do you any recommendations for an authentic agent. Am actually an experienced teacher currently in Vietnam and looking for a teaching job.
Did you find any?
I am not surprised at all.
Thank you for the information. I will share to my friends.
I agree with you, terrible place
Is Jenny's boyfriend in Vietnam legally?

Its most of them. was there for a long time. Lived and worked all over the country.
@@BakeASnakeCan you tell me which cities you stayed during your time in Vietnam?
Oh no where are they get those dog from . Where are the animal right and protection . What a sadness , it makes me cry
Your aware eating dog in Vietnam is a cultural thing right? It's part of the Cold/Hot "inner body" as it's called
It's also a traditional food north and south on 3 separte holidays in VIetnam
I suppose you can imagine the emotions of a European who is forced to live in a similar part of the city. This employer did not think at all about the feelings of the newly arrived employee.
All animals should be treated equal
Why are you using an agent to get you a job and apartment?
She already paid for an apartment and you expect her to pay for a hotel room too? I don't understand what the scam is? You had to pay for lunch and transport? Normal
You quit, presumably breaking contract, and expected to still get paid?
You see the world through biased eyes. You see everything in your life this way I would bet.
you have been too trusting.... vietnam is a scarry place....everyone is a scammer...but u shud spot them a mile away..... i live near to vietnam all my life....
He will receive more than what he did, let wait
I believe AVSE tesol with Peter is one of the best agents to use.
What about emg education?
Oh! I followed you longtime!
The first, I want to tell you WELLCOME TO VIET NAM!
I saw your video and I know It was terrible!
I hope someone can help you or give for you some advices !
I shared for my friend, I think someone can help you .
He is lair, nothing of what he said is true, he wasted our time, I tried to help him even I don't know him because he is new in Vietnam and I know that he will suffer if he did not get the job immediately, but he wasn't polite at all, he did not like any room of more that 10 rooms even very nice and new room no one lived there before, but he said no I won't work I want to live in the city center, then he went away. Without say thanks for what I did to him. If he is saying the true he can show the messages and show the room pictures that we find for him 😅, but I'm sure he will not show anything because he is just a lair 😂😂😂😂
@NhuNguyen-fk5yy Thank you for your support. Luckily, I met so many good people in Vietnam; however, unfortunately, there are still many agents like Jenny who cheat foreign teachers. As you have been watching my videos for a long time, you know that I have worked as a teacher abroad in different countries, but I have never met such terrible people before. It was my first time experiencing an agent who didn't pay me at all. I hope that more local schools and teachers will watch this video and avoid any dealings with these unscrupulous individuals. They bring shame to Vietnam and its teaching industry.
@@hassanmoustafa3540 oh! You are so kind!
When I ask my friend, he told me he still has bad experiences! 😆
But I think not only him meet terrible times!
So I hope some agents can change to help the new foreign teachers!
Thanks! Have a nice weekend! ☺️

Hello ma'am
The content of the video is ridiculous. It should be removed from TH-cam.
At the same time, of course, they did not pay me for my work or offer any alternative accommodation.
@@MyLifeThai371 the problem is he can't even work as a DJ. Maybe his permission was only for teaching with a company. If he is married to a vietnamese, the DJ company must apply for a work permit exception and they are lazy for that.
