張楷笙 It's a go-kart centrifugal clutch. Our's in particular has adjustable weights that flyout and push clutch plates together.The chain is on the left because the crankshaft on the engine spins that direction. Finding a left hand drive rear hub is difficult. Many teams use a 'jack shaft' to send the power to the right side of the rear wheel.
Hi MrPizzaman09 i have joined shell eco in 2016 when i took journey to the other paddock's team, some times i look on the prototype's transmission drive they use like a jaw clutch/dog clutch, do you know where i can found that thing? or it is designed by themselves?
tony f bicycle clutches are very popular, but you need to check on the direction you need for your transmission setup. This car used a hard to find left hand drive bike clutch. Another option is building your own with a one way bearing. Making your own dog or plate clutch is not a good idea for several reasons including reliability, efficiency, weight and size....I have yet to see a good one. The bike clutch amounts to less than 1% of the total lost energy in the car for most SAE / Shell Ecomarathon cars.
+MrPizzaman09 hmm, using bicycle hub, or bicycle freewheel, which one is most efficient? btw that rotary valve is very cool, what is the material ? and how long you did the research?
tony f What do you mean by a bicycle hub? A bike freewheel has relatively low drag, especially compared to the tire rolling resistance and air drag of the car. The rotary valve is made of steel...nothing too fancy.

mason pfeiffer 1485 MPG in 2012, which was good for first place. We also achieved 1289 mpg in 2013 and also took first place out of roughly 30 teams from all around the world.
