- Thought I’d do a quick video on the trx4. Why I decided to do the portal delete, pro’s and con’s, and where the build is going from here .

Ty for the portal respect 😂 they do have companies that can do portals for big trucks and for big money but you are right a scale STOCK look is just pure sexy.

Scale axles look so much better! I have the TRX-4 sport and as i am doing a custom build I am thinking going to straight axle
Thank you sir! I agree.., it looks so much better! Beware the gearing is atrociously high…, it’s pretty tough to slow it down enough while keeping a decent amount of torque.
I would just put the cost of the straight axle kit, into a rig with stock straight axles🙏
This is excellent. I love your scale workshop.and portal delete is way closer to realworld trucks. I mean dont get me wrong, i fully understand the concept of the portals that Traxxas spec'd but portal delete is so much more realistic. Love your work mudder putter 👍👌🖕

Unfortunately I don’t really recommend the straight axle kit.., so hard to get the gearing low enough. Decent as a trail truck but barely.

I don't care for Portal axles because they don't exist on trucks like that Bronco.
I like open/optional locking differential, etc. Also would like to see it running with the diffs open and the suspension action in a video too !
Thanks Richard.., same reasons for me. Unfortunately it’s super hard to get the gearing low enough for a decent crawler once its portals are removed.

Great video Putter, I think most manufacturers just do the portals because of the capabilities mainly, truthful we have several Jeeps 8n the local here that run some portals. Wv terrain is pretty hard-core, I have to drive to our local Park just have a decent place to drive my scale Rc4wd stuff. Its all hill climbs and rocks here nothing level practical at all in Wv, I like the look of the portal removal on the Bronco for that scale stock Bronco look. Here in Wv you never see anything stock in a 4X4 everything is lifted with huge tires lol! Thanks again for this video and the info Rc Brother

@@RcDungeon That’s crazy…, ours are a bit cold (once lake freezes over) with really high humidity; which makes it feel a lot colder. Nothing crazy for snow accumulation.., usually.

Thanks Chuck!!! Ya., it’s a great kit! Sorry didn’t video it but it’s very easy. The only thing I messed up was forgetting to put in a couple screws (lock tite a bunch and forgot my spot) but was an easy fix.

volt up and gear down for the speed and torque..but man..great in depth video on the portal delete...love the wheel tuck in ur riggs man..i dont mind the tires sticking out maybe a bit..but nothing where it looks like a body builder with big ass arms and skinny legs lol..ur garage and set up was awesome and ur knowledge was greatly appreciated and soaked up brother..yes those 1.9s on amazon arent to bad for under 40$ there 3 kinds a black set..a chrome set and a like off greyish color so thats cool...have a great weekend..i did ask about that canoe and its worth it..but for the price..im only 12$ away from a hardbody blazer with a coupon so maybe next time...thanks tho bud...

Very cool production, I have now caught up I think on Mudder Putter videos! Really enjoyed, awesome scale garage and great to hear your build and design philosophy. I like the 'tucked tyres' on the Bronco with the portals delete, gives the truck a real, I'd say classic Seventies look. I do not own such a truck but that is the idea that came across my mind.
Eagerly awaiting a Mudder Putter weathering masterclass video for the rainy November night...Thank you for all epic content with beautuful scale trucks, loving the Chevrolet :-)

Good info man, I've thought about changing my portals over too, I like the more scale look to rigs and with portals I can't get low enough into the fender wells to run a scale tire without it looking ridiculous, I may try this in the future thanks 👍👍👍👍

Your work is fantastic. Car models, video quality, great ideas. I'm not a fan of portal axles on classic American cars.

@@MudderPutter Your Bronco is truly fantastic. One thing doesn't suit me. Side steps. Original US cars at that time had a body with a sill. I dismantled the original trx tread and solved it with velcro. Unfortunately, I don't know if my English is correct

How did you delete the portals on the front axle? I see the SSD rear delete. Need to know how you did the front. Love this look. Scale RC is the best RC.

Thats just awesome, was wondering how you got the lowered look. What diameter are the tires ( class 1 ) ? Like you I like the scale look and driving in a scale way. Have 2 dedicated mainly rock crawlers but the rest are mainly scale crawlers. Usually find a real truck and build accordingly. Like your work and video's. How's the ole back.? Thanks

I sold my TRX4 to a buddy, I found i didn't use it as much, and going more scale anyway,

Thanks GTMG!!! Yes.., these are smaller 1.9 x 3.8-3.9”. Rc4wd Hawkeye’s. a little small in the wheel wells but the 1:1 was the same👌

I just put the portal delete on my TRX4 2021 Bronco last night, and even with the 9t pinion it's still INSANELY fast... how much did that TrailMaster 45t slow it back down? Also, how is the torque now? (BTW, that bronco is AMAZING!)
Thanks so much Evan! Ya.., she’s so quick! It really isn’t slow enough with the 45 either…, maybe a better esc (like the 1080)would give it better throttle response (to quick of a start up as it is).
I haven’t gotten to adding the hardbody so I haven’t gotten any further in figuring a better gearing.
My next plan is to either use an 80t motor (with 1080)or try the new Hobbywing fusion se (the lowest kv).
I’ve just picked up a used Hobbywing axe in a trade; maybe I’ll try that quickly. It’s a 2100kv, which is a little fast but maybe the foc will give it a slow enough start up.

@Mudder Putter I ended up getting an RC4WD 65t 540 for the time being... the speed is pretty ok (actually a tad too slow now with a 9t pinion) but the torque is definitely less than the 21t Titan that came in it. I was a little disappointed until i remembered that i had the punch setting on default (im using a HW1080 G2 right now) and turning the punch to setting 9 definitely helped, although it still feels kinda weak. Long term I'm going to go with the Hobbywing Fusion Pro and hope that the FOC makes the low end manageable, same as you.

I just tried putting a cheap Amazon 80t 450 can in it…, paired with stock electronics (😬). It actually felt pretty good! Definitely slower than even stock gearing I believe. Might try to do a quick video on it…, just do the infos out there 👌

What's your verdict on the Trailmaster 45T with the 9 tooth pinion? Do you have an idea how it might compare to the Hobbywing Fusion SE 1200 or 1800 with the same small pinion?
Hey brother.., not too sure! I’ve been thinking of trying one of those out. Unfortunately they didn’t have the 1200 in stock at my lhs. The 1800 I would think is too quick, as the 45T is too quick for any challenging/ technical crawling.
@@MudderPutter I did a little more research and found out that the 1200kv is about equal to the stock 21 turn Titan. I went ahead and ordered the 1800kv and a 9T pinion to put in along with the portal delete. 2nd gear is about as fast as I'd ever need my TRX-4 to go. Of course with the portal deletes and 1800kv it's going to be faster, but it's still a sensored motor with FOC so I think it should be alright. I'll definitely come back here and let you know my thoughts.
I asked on Facebook and several people were telling me to just get the 2300kv Fusion Pro. I pushed back on that heavily and they didn't seem to understand why.

Ya, apparently the 1400 and 1800 have the same startup speed. Most people don’t know how much change the delete kit makes in gearing! Think I have one of HH’s lowest kv motor in it and it’s still geared too high for technical/ side-hilling type situations.
The foc I also believe will be the biggest help!

The bumpers that come with the hardbody bronco can be mounted to the body and the original bumper mount (make sure not to break off the mounts on the body when painting).

These are rc4wd 1.9 Hawk Eyes, they are about 3.8-3.9. I love the size as well; wish the wheel wells were a little smaller tho.

These are 70mm rc4wd shocks that I treaded into the top cap of the original trx4 shocks…, since they have that wide rod end .

@@MudderPutter Thanks! I just got some 3.8s in the mail and was thinking they were a bit small but after looking at pictures of an original Bronco, I realized how small the factory wheels and tires actually were on the real thing.

@@MudderPutter I’m planning on getting the same portal delete kit on my bronco. I’m wondering if a 65t RC4WD brushed motor would do alright. I love brushless but I don’t really need or want top of the line electronics on my bronco. I run pretty much the same type of trails as you do

What size wheels and tires?
These are pretty small.., rc4wd 1.9 hawk eyes (3.8”), and 1.9 amazing 5 lug beadlocks.
Looks scale since the portal delete lowers the truck so much . Also went to smaller shocks… etc
