New year, new video!! There are so many videos I want to make this year and I can’t wait to share it with you all. What are some topics/videos you would like to see?? 🙃 Also, reading through your comments really makes me feel so grateful to have such awesome people watching my videos 😢 Thank you always for the kind and positive comments. Angela ♡
I would watch anything that you produced! I am curious: Is there a prize for that Soba challenge? The way the waitress keeps feeding you is so amusing!
Thank you so much for making this wonderful video showing us these hidden gems in Tohoku! I prefer the less well-known areas of Japan because they feel more authentic and unique than the mass-consumption-focused Tokyo. That's not to say that Tokyo is bad, more that it's only a very narrow aspect of what Japan has to offer. So thank you again for showing us the places off the beaten path in Japan!
My wife and I were in Japan for 3 weeks last year. We spent 10 days in Kyoto, 2 days in Tokyo and the rest in Niigata and Sado island. Rural Japan is so beautiful! We were there in the fall and it was amazing to watch people harvesting rice by hand, fishing in small sail boats with nets and picking amazing fruit from incredibly manicured orchards. It was like traveling back in time to the Meiji era.
I would like to be part of that 1% that visits that area when I travel to Japan =) Very nice people and nice views. Also, congrats on your 81 dish record Angela lol
The grannies at Abolone Festival vere soooooo nice and full of spirit! You hear them talk about how thankful they are for the country's citizen that helped them after 2011.. it makes your heart grow just by listening to them.. so much appreciation to other people... this is Japan's spirit! Angela, thank you for another great video!
Watching your videos always brings home the wonderful realisation that Japanese people are perhaps the warmest, friendliest and so full of grace and charm. Keep up the amazing work Angela. We love you.
Tohoku region should be visited by so many more! I was there just one year after the earthquake and tsunami and visited also a few of the towns worst affected by it, and I was struck by how friendly and welcoming the locals were despite all the hardships they were in and I want to go back. Best and most memorable trip I made during my three years studying in Japan.
Thank you very much for promoting Tohoku! I'm from Sendai and I appreciate your video, as people in Tohoku are usually a bit shy not great at promoting ourselves 💦
I can’t decribe how much I love your videos. I am a medicine student in 5th year, and I decided to go to Japan when I finish my studies for a month. I am surely taking notes of everything you are showing to me. Thank you, really. Japan looks beautiful in every angle!
I just came back from my holiday visiting the Tohoku region - Ichinoseki, zao onsen, yamagata, kaminoyama onsen and ginzan onsen. Very very beautiful with all the snowy scenery and the people there are very helpful even if they do not know english
I've been to Matsushima, Hiraizumi, Sendai, Geibikei and Yamadera. it was amazing!!! and this summer I will go to to Aomori for Nebuta and Akita for Kanto matsuri
Yet another awesome video, thank you Angela. Though born and raised in Japan my first 7 years I have never had the opportunity nor the budget to return there. Now I do, and my cousin in Sendai has been inviting me to visit for years. I just may do it this year! Your video only encourages me more to do so. Thanks again!
Just took several weeks to travel through Japan and went pretty much everywhere you just did. I loved it! I don’t speak Japanese so I had a bit of difficulty communicating, but still had a blast! The people were awesome and the sites beautiful. I think I may have enjoyed it so much because there weren’t very many other western tourist around. In a week’s time I probably only ran into about a dozen. Lots of Asian tourist though. Really want to go back. Amazing video! Thank you so much for creating such wonderful content. Aloha
@@TruthAdv I know a little bit of Japanese, but not enough to say I speak it. Google translate helps a lot. At restaurants my go to phrase was always “osusume wa nan desu ka” and whatever they say I just go “ok”. They usually repeat by pointing on the menu, to which I respond “hai”.
This video has been out for awhile but I'm just getting around to watching it. Thanks for featuring this awesome place, I lived here for nearly three years and feel like I've been waiting forever to see you make this video. My heart is so full.
Your English is excellent! As someone from the US that wants to visit Japan someday your video was great for getting ideas for place to see that are away from the tourist traps!!! Thank you!!!
This video inspires me even more to learn Japanese. My favorite moments in the video were the charming people you met along the trip, and when I visit, I also want to do as you did and chat with locals! Thank you for this 😗
I've visited Tokyo twice and fell in with the food and the people, I'm so looking forrward to visiting the rest of the country.Thank you for your video on Tohoku . John
I love Japan and its people and have traveled there several times and have a trip booked in Feb 2020. The Tsunami was devastating to Japan and my heart broke watching it happen.
For me, THIS is the real Japan, just like my Mom described ( She was born in Sapporo, but spent lots of time around Akita and Tohoku growing up). Got to go and see, for sure. Thank you for another amazing video, Angela. Arigatou gozaimasu.
@3:41 were you pouring yamaimo into your soba bowl? I grated yamaimo for dinner and I added a dash of shoyu and eat it with rice. My Mom is from Kagoshima! I am planning a trip to Japan in the Fall of 2023 with my youngest child who loves everything Japanese. We both love nature. I just subscribed to your channel. I love the calmness in your voice and the aesthetics of your videos.
I've thought about teaching English in Japan and tohoku was the place I wanted to be placed. I grew up in the countryside and prefer the idea of living and working in a small rural town or village. Where I could possibly have a modest sized garden to do some gardening and get to know the local people.
That's so amazing! If you've heard of the JET Program, please apply for it! :D I hope you get placed here in Tohoku. Who knows, maybe I'd see you around!
My son is a english teacher in near Saga I think. He is also married to a Japanese girl and live there for almost seven years. He is so happy there and also make you tube video's. But more motivational.... sorry my english not so good. I stay in Cape Town South Africa...all the best for you and your dreams. 💟🇿🇦✌
I went to Tohoku as a private teacher for a year and then went back on the JET Programme. During my JET interview I specifically said I wanted to go to Iwate and the interviewers cackled and screamed with glee because virtually nobody requests the Newfoundland of Japan. Tohoku is not for wallflowers as your every move will make the papers just because you are different, but it was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life and would never have been matched had I lived in a more foreigner dense area.
I spent two weeks solo travelling around Tohoku in Dec 1992/Jan 1993. It was one of the best trips in my two years in Japan. I especially liked Hirosaki, Hiraizumi, Kakunodate.and Aizu-Wakamatsu. Would be great if you could do a video about the northwest coast of Tohoku from Aomori down to Yamagata.
Another wonderful and amazing video, Angela. Thank you so much for showing off the beaten path destinations in Japan, I will make sure I will visit these areas of Japan.
Wow, impressed you ate that many bowls of soba!(Mikey Chen, eat your stomach out!, you've met your food match) Subbed because of that and your nice, gentle narration.
Angela, what a beautiful, tranquil prefecture of Japan I was totally unaware of. The nature views are incredible and like everywhere we travel with you, the local people are so friendly. Another wonderful experience thanks to Angela and Internationally Me!
Congrats on 81 bowls. I enjoy these episodes that show more than the main touristy sites. I will add these on my future Japan trips😀 thanks for the recommendation s
Thank you for your videos! Always informative and gives me great ideas for my future trips to Japan! I did find it amusing that the bus was called Den Den Mushi as that is also what transponder snails are called in the manga One Piece. 🙂
I studied abroad in Morioka almost ten years ago. I went to that same soba shop and my host mom took me to Jodogahama. This was of course before the 2011 disaster. You should go to Akita next :) I lived there for the JET Program. Thank you so much for showing the beauty of Tohoku!
Great Job on showing us Tohoku! I have a friend who lives in Miyako, so your video was especially interesting for me! I also just finishing watching your video you made using the instant translator, something I had learned about recently and was thrilled to see you try it out! I'm trying to learn Japanese, with the help of my friend in Miyako, and it was amazing to come across these 2 videos. Arigatou gozaimasu! You made my night! ....... Louise
Cant watch anymore Fukushima Tsunami footage anymore without wanting to cry. Gotta do as much as we can to support Northern Japan when the central Government seems too willing to move on. They deserve better. Great Tohoku adventure.
Always looking forwards to your uploaded introduction on Japan. They are awesome & enrich videos too! Amazing Japan too~~~How I wish I can visit as many perfectures
I’ve spent more time in Iwate than all the rest of Japan combined in my two trios there. It’s just beautiful... Morioka and Kamaishi are my two home bases. I really love them both. My dream job is to teach at Iwate U one day. I always thought that the “many noodle bowls” (wanko soba) was unique to Hanamaki, just south of Morioka. I’ll have to go to that place you went to. Did you drink any of the hot noodle water? It sounds gross but is good for your stomach. But I recommend taking the trains instead of buses... the trains have a charm that does not exist on the bus lines.
Thank you for your gentle video. My home is at the point where is 35 km away from the nuclear plant. I deeply know that Fukushima prefecture is complicated matters, but I wish that our prefecture will be introduced as it is. Reality of our prefecture is too emphasized by fragmentary reports. Unfortunately, in current situation, hearsay still dominants scientific result. Especially in foreign country, because of mere distance, the tendency is more ferocious, therefore such video can give me joyousness.
I totally agree! I'm from Singapore and before I moved to Sendai in 2016, all I've heard about Tohoku is the disaster. BUT TOHOKU IS AMAZING, SAFE AND BEAUTIFUL! I have been to Fukushima, but I want to see more. Really hope to visit Ouchi-juku soon! 東北がんばろう!
Fukushima is absolutely beautiful and charming! You are right that around the world (especially here in America) the news reports only talk about the nuclear accident, and I was there in December 2011 and found Fukushima (Koriyama) to be absolutely wonderful. I wish you all the very best and look forward to coming back!
What an awesome adventure did you have. I don't know how did I get here but I enjoyed. People seem to be very nice and the views were amazing. And the food looked great too. Congrats!
Thanks Angela for continuing to make these videos. I went to Japan late last year and I found your videos to be a great source of advice. Now every time I watch one it makes me realise there's so much in Japan that I haven't done and I miss it so much!
It looked so beautiful there with the snow! I have to keep adding places to visit when I finally plan my trip to Japan every time you upload a new video!
Hey Angela. Another awesome video. Christchurch could learn a bit from the Japanese mentality, unfortunately I won't be heading north in March but will gear up for my next trip!
Heyyyy!!!! I’m in Japan rn in Kyoto mainly because of you ^_^ my friend and I are from Australia and watching your channel has been the best decision I’ve made in a long time
You are a "make you smile" person when watching the video. Another beautiful video that makes you want to visit, but I would miss out on the great conversations, which would be a huge loss to me. You cannot beat beautiful country and beautiful people. I cannot believe there are more thumbs down than thumbs up for this video.
I was fortunate enough to be in the group of students who were sent to Japan shortly after the Earthquake/Tsunami. We saw Tohoku while the destruction was still fresh. It was a haunting experience but it was also amazing to see how the Japanese people had already recovered in that short period of time. It has endeared me to Tohoku forever. Some of the story's we heard I will remember forever. It's a beautiful area, more people really should visit! It's gorgeous!
Wonderful video of the Tohoku region. I was very impressed with the 81 bowls of soba that you finished happily. Talk about food coma on the bus afterwards. Happy New Year Angela! I wish you a wonderful & prosperous 2018. :-)
I enjoy your videos. I met some Japanese students in Morocco. they were all very refined persons. I am a potter. I 'd love to visit the Japanese ceramic centers. peace
I'm just back from Japan a few days ago. Visited Kami village of Miyagi and went skiing at Yakurai mountain. Get to see snow for the first time as I come from Cambodia, a coutry in the tropical region. It was the highlight of my trip to Japan. The people in Sendai are friendly and the life pace is a bit more laid back and chill than Tokyo. I also visited Miyagi University and was suprised by the number of international students studying Japanese literature in this part of Japan.
New year, new video!! There are so many videos I want to make this year and I can’t wait to share it with you all. What are some topics/videos you would like to see?? 🙃
Also, reading through your comments really makes me feel so grateful to have such awesome people watching my videos 😢 Thank you always for the kind and positive comments.

I would love to see more hidden gems around Tokyo. I am headed there in March, so I am taking notes! :-)
I would watch anything that you produced! I am curious: Is there a prize for that Soba challenge? The way the waitress keeps feeding you is so amusing!

I'd love to see your take on the Sapporo Snow Festival
You should have dropped in and said hello while you were in Sendai! Glad to see you enjoyed Hachinohe ;)! And good job promoting Tohoku!!!
Abroad in Japan : just wondering if she suggested her horse meat as well ? By the way i love ur videos.
I only stopped by for a few hours but we need to catch up again next time :)
You should do wanko soba challenge together. :)
Was waiting for your reply hahaha
I think she beat you in Wanko Soba count

Thanks for a great video about Iwate and Tohoku! North Japan is so beautiful and everyone should come here!!

I loved Tohoku region during my travel last October, i was especially suprised by Aomori and Hirosaki, such nice cities !

How did you get around without speaking Japanese? I'm trying to learn, but I don't think I'll know much when I'm there, that's

:) So glad to finally see this video!!!!
81 bowls EPIC!
I have been to Sendai and Hirosaki. A really nice part of the country.
Great to see a new video. Thanks Angela.
I love how you find these hidden gems in Japan!!! New subscriber and loving your channel!!!

Everything looks so cramped and small but what is outstanding is how they still keep everything clean and neat! Thumbs Up!
Wow, the way she delivered those lines about the disaster made me choke up. I had tears in my eyes for some reason.
This video inspires me even more to learn Japanese. My favorite moments in the video were the charming people you met along the trip, and when I visit, I also want to do as you did and chat with locals! Thank you for this 😗
The shot at 0:11 is so beautiful and perfect with the snow you're so good at this Angela ☺️
I love her videos, it demonstrates the other side of japan in comparison to the tourist locations. And 4:00 was too cute😍
I love that he saluted before you got on the train. :) Thanks for showing us this part of Japan!
You are doing a great job showing these off the beaten paths of Japan. It's very interesting to see places like this.
I've visited Tokyo twice and fell in with the food and the people, I'm so looking forrward to visiting the rest of the country.Thank you for your video on Tohoku . John
Hi Angela ! Beautifully filmed and narrated ! Am so glad your back !!
I’ve never left :p but thank you for waiting patiently for the video!!
I love Japan and its people and have traveled there several times and have a trip booked in Feb 2020. The Tsunami was devastating to Japan and my heart broke watching it happen.
Thank you for covering my region. Keep it up!
Hopefully you didn't mind our weird dialects compared to that of what you see in Kanto region ;)
岩手に住んでる者ですが、東北を紹介してくれて嬉しいです!
So clean. No trash or litter any where on the streets. Civility at its finest.
For me, THIS is the real Japan, just like my Mom described ( She was born in Sapporo, but spent lots of time around Akita and Tohoku growing up). Got to go and see, for sure. Thank you for another amazing video, Angela. Arigatou gozaimasu.

I currently live in the Tohoku region. Aomori to be exact. It is quite peaceful. Definitely worth a visit.

Such great scenery in this video, thanks for sharing Angela!
Its my dearest dream to visit (or live in) japan..I have even dreamt about it. Blessed the people that can go there.
I was here 3 years ago during my uni exchange !!!!! We stayed at bel air hotel near tohoku university. Memories that I would never forget..
This is beautiful, it made me feel the calmness that Japan offers. Can't wait to go back on a trip.
Thank you for your videos! Always informative and gives me great ideas for my future trips to Japan!
I did find it amusing that the bus was called Den Den Mushi as that is also what transponder snails are called in the manga One Piece. 🙂
I'm planning on traveling this region in the fall! Thank you so much for this video and app recommendations!

Just like Wisconsin, snow in the winter. It looks like a real nice place to visit. Thanks for the very nice video. You do such a good job.
Wonderful video of the Tohoku region. I was very impressed with the 81 bowls of soba that you finished happily. Talk about food coma on the bus afterwards. Happy New Year Angela! I wish you a wonderful & prosperous 2018. :-)
I always enjoy your videos. Which makes me more exited to go back to Japan.
I enjoy your videos. I met some Japanese students in Morocco. they were all very refined persons. I am a potter. I 'd love to visit the Japanese ceramic centers. peace
Beautiful video Angela! Keep up the amazing work :)
