You can be damn sure that if I were the girl that got pushed off the bridge, AT MINIMUM I would be asking for this chick to pay for any medical bills incurred from the incident.
While I completely agree with you, it must be taken into consideration that the girls were both under 18 and, most likely, neither had jobs. Perhaps there could be some sort of payment plan over time? I don't know much about that, but I know there's no way that girl could pay the bills on her own in any significant period of time
have her pay the med-bills. you act the fool (intentionally pushing someone off of a bridge) you should pay the price. on top of that tack on prison time.
Depends on how they voted (electronic / by vote / paper), and if it was electronically based vote, then it matters how the voting system was outlined perhaps the people made the ballot/voting system, maliciously made it so you couldn't understand what you were voting for. By best example is Article 13 For Against Article 13 If it was outlined like that. You can see how confusing it would be whether you voted FOR or Against.
Well I imagine the argument is that the accident was how dangerous it ended up being - as in the pusher assumed it'd be harmless, which is more negligence than ill intent. Pushing people is generally dumb, but people do it with pools - that attitude of that being playful, plus being ignorant of general physics and such, well... The pusher not visiting or checking in right after hurts this case though, doesn't seem like they were good enough friends to warrant anything close to that kind of "playful" relationship.

Both US and GET OUT would not have been the same movie if they didnt have a black lead role. The plots were dependent on a passive black male in the lead. Movies are a work of art and we need to keep the PC BS put of it.
The problem isn't that Peele only wants to have black leads in his films. He should be able to do that. People have a problem with the fact that if any white director came out and said, "I won't cast black leads in my films because that isn't my vision of what I want to make," he'd be demonized, discredited, called racist, and cast out of the film industry. Directors should be allowed to cast whoever the fuck they want. It's their project, their decision. People are annoyed with the double standard.
But the reality is directors have already been doing it they just won’t admit it publicly like jordan peele did. It’s a big reason why people like him are fighting for diversity in the first place.
jameltanderson The reality is, blacks make up 13% of the American population. This means there are statistically more white actors than black ones in America. That’s why more white actors are cast. It’s not racism, it’s statistics.
When white leads are the norm, and have been for decades, why would any director feel the need to say that aloud? Not sarcasm, but seriously asking. Why would a director go "Just so it's clear, I feel there isn't enough white leads in Hollywood and I have a vision for white leads only."? Sounds a bit silly
The fact the woman left instead of check on her “friend” shows there was malicious intent or at the least she didn’t care about her. Even if that’s forgiven as being scared by your own actions, the fact she made no contact afterwards to check up on the person paints a rather specific picture in regards to their concern regardless of age. None the less I feel bad for the family more than anything
I think that’s an exaggeration. It’s natural to run from our problems and not confront them. She’s young too. I don’t think it’s fair to assume that it’s malicious
She was probably freaking out and feeling guilty, and maybe figured she was pissed and didn't want to see her. Still made the wrong decision, but there's not enough to assume malicious intent.
I think the worst that could have been proven in court in this case would have been reckless injury, where the should have objectively known that the victim could be hurt by the fall, but pushes anyway. The other things, like leaving the scene and not showing up later, can aggravate the position of the defendant, as it did in the judge's decision. However, it can be hard to prove the malicious intent, or "mens rea", to get any higher in this case. She got out with comparatively little because she didn't go to trial and took the plea deal.
Thomas Newton running away once fine but to not even check on the person... I’ve done dumb things too but have always shown remorse when the fault(regardless of accident or not) is mine In the end my opinion is based off my personal belief
@ More teenage boys actually kill themselves than girls. Girls attempt, boys follow through. It's definitely not a competition but I think it's safe to say that teenagers in general do not handle emotional situations very well. This being said, I wish this girl had even attempted to try to reach out. If the other girl rejected her, then so be it but attempting would've at least been something.

@Karol Jeske What? No, theres a clear difference between a little pain in life and being pushed off a bridge pain, or in my case severe nerve damage in my lower back. Trust me when I say 'just pain' can be a life changer all by itself.
9:55 Jesus, that was almost second degree attempted murder. I have no clue how she could only be spending two days in jail when the list of injuries is that long. Edit: It was almost manslaughter.
Murder or even attempted murder would mean she pushed her with intent to kill. Even had the girl died she would likely only be charged manslaughter, for accidentally killing her. I do agree the punishment isn't quite harsh enough. It's hard to punish a first time offender and ruin both of their lives, when the kid had no idea it was gonna be this bad. I would have suggested paying off a portion of the medic bills (in community service at least) and at least twice as many days in jail as she spent in the hospital (so 6) plus the probation that was already there. But once again this was clearly an accident, and unless you have hurt someone, you wouldn't know the toll that takes on you personally. I'm sure the girl was devastated that she almost killed someone as well...
I see both sides. Typically it would be meant to be a friendly joke, pushing someone in a pool, but when you add the "on top of a tall bridge" and dont think about the severity of it, like many people her age do, then it becomes deadly.
gozzilla177 I agree, but like I said, it was *almost* second degree attempted murder. She intentionally pushed her, but didn’t intend for her to almost die. Had she gotten a different judge, the charges may have been a lot worse.
Ainz Ooal Gown exactly. I obviously can’t peek inside the girls head or read her mind, but did the thought that this could be a REALLY bad idea not pass through her head? I just don’t get the thought process.
It's probably because of the dangerous act that they were already doing diving into the waters there. We also don't get the full scene they might have been good friends and were Josh and around intended harm wasn't meant or something that could cause a low sentence like this plus the mother even said she only wanted her in jail is many days is her daughter was in the hospital
@@kateajurors8640 It's hard to imagine that they were good friends given that the girl that pushed her bolted after it instead of going to check to make sure she was okay. @@isafarooq1721 What I find interesting is that people respond to it as if white actors won't find work. Sure they will. They may not be the lead in Peele's movies but they'll find work. And the response of "You should be hiring them based on their merit", well what about the merit for black actors? Shouldn't they get a chance to show off their acting ability?
Regarding the Jordan Peele issue, I agree with his logic, casting a white person vs a black person in the same role can drastically change the interpretation of the movie. To me it's not about equalizing a gap in the lead roles, it's about telling the story that you want to tell and sometimes a black person being cast tells a completely different story.
Never Question a potato Help yes, exactly. Even if diversity wasn’t a social discussion, we should want diversity because having the same shit over and over is boring
Never Question a potato Help I agree with you, however I fear that many (and probably Jordan as well) want to equalise the gap, which I find pretty worrying. Equal representation based on race only matters if people identify with their race, which I think is an incredibly dangerous road. A disparity may signify unjust discrimination, however the way to deal with that it to tackle the racism, not try and destroy a disparity.
DragonEye But he has loads of white people in his films and there are loads of horror films. Where the black actor only lasts 10 minutes or are not in any horror films at all. It would be racist if he completely excluded white People and. Let’s not forget he is mixed-race with a white wife.

Regarding Jordan Peele, I think it’s up to the artist what they choose to paint. If he wants to make movies about black people, that’s fine. Although I think those same standards should exist for directors who want to cast white actors. That’s just how I feel about art in general. That being said, if he always intends to cast black leads, I think he’s limiting his palette. If it’s a racial theme you want to do, choose the best black actor. If race is unrelated to the plot, choose the actor best suited for the role. I don’t think his choice is racist, I think it’s how he wants to express his artform. That said, I think there are better ways unless you intend to make race the permanent focus.
@@Nickie102 Nothing wrong with all black cast movie like Black Panther. The point is that it should be fine to do an all white cast movie also. Directors should be able to tell whatever story they want to.
IMO, he’s earned the right to pick whoever he damn well pleases to be in his film, since he’s elevated himself to the successful position he is in. I’m not a fan of affirmation action, but this is completely different. If you want to dictate who is in a movie, feel free to establish a successful directing career and direct your own film.
Fortress Europa thing is that thought fails when you see that’s not what’s happening. You missed the notes on that 2 of the actors are most known for Black Panther. One of is an Oscar winner and hasn’t been treated like an Oscar winning actress in years. Directors can tell what ever story they want but who they hire in that story is the problem and not always their choice or at least not their first choice. Compared to the number of movies with white lead actors who show up in film to film and do somewhat successful there’s not nearly enough black lead movies that see that same light and that’s pretty much what Jordan wants.
@@katnelson6382 Whats not happening? I dont disagree with anything you've said. If Jordan wants to make a black actor a movie superstar like Will Smith or something im fine with it.
Surprised that it had to go to court... surely the families could have came together, could have covered the medical costs and provide other means of atonement It was a reckless action in the midst of youths having fun which is now going to place a black mark on the rest of their lives. The victim, although hurt, will recover from her injuries, but jail time on your record is for life (good luck travelling or getting a job).
@Sir Trail Unless she got a lesser sentence for being a minor, she would have got at least an involuntary manslaughter. However, there is a small chance she would get that or worse if the victim were black. This is speaking in the case where the victim would have died. In cases like this white no longer gets you any privilege. Celebrity does with no regard to skin color or ethnicity. Look at the Jussie Smollett case. If he weren't a celebrity he would have had to pay for his crimes regardless of the color of his skin. Except, nowadays, he _might_ have gotten sentenced to some community service or a fee that wouldn't hurt his wallet much at all if he were white. The "privilege" now isn't related to skin color. It's related to the celebrity and ideology of the "perp" (the perpetrator of the alleged crime). If you are a celebrity, but a conservative you'll go down, at least a bit - like Mel Gibson did for a few years. If you're liberal, especially extremely leftist, you will always receive a "get out of jail free" card.
@@aubreyyoung4610 @a1175779 The problem here isn't just that she pushed someone off a bridge. It's that no thought was given to safety and no one explained the proper procedure for ensuring the safety of the teens/people participating. At least one (better 2 or 3) people should have gone down to the water to check for depth and rocks under the surface and then reported that clearly to everyone participating. And it should have been explained to all ahead of time that pushing people can cause a bad and misplaced landing. That was disregarded by all present. For me, the parents of these teens have some of the fault simply because they didn't think to teach their children safety measures in situations like this. People really need to take more responsibility for the education of their children, not just pass it off to the schools. Particularly since the educational system in the USA is so badly broken that people come out of it thinking with their feelings rather than using self-discipline and reason. Critical thinking and Logic aren't taught in schools except as electives and even then they are poorly taught. As a nation we've generally been getting dumber since the 1930s because of the socialist infiltration of our colleges, then the rest of our school system. Too bad that when the socialists take control of the nation all of the LGBTQ+ community will become their first target for elimination. Then anyone that is intelligent, and then anyone that disagrees with them. Millions will die. It will follow the same pattern as Nazi Germany and Stalinist Russia/USSR.
@Yaruu Salamander It ain't cheap to get healthcare in the US period. And she had pretty major injuries, not sure how they paid or got the money but it's likely they did get into debt.
@Yaruu Salamander Big companies literally control 90% of politicians here (on a good day) and they can post whatever price they want and either you pay it or you die. it's that simple. If you disagree with that system then people with deep wallets pay other people to publicly shame you as a socialist, communist, etc. For example, If you had a bill that proposed limiting Big Medicine profits to "just" 1000% there is a likely possibility 50% or more of the politicians here would accuse you of trying to "destroy the free market." 20-30% or the "Left wing" American politicians (European Centrism(?)) would pat your head and say nice things, but vote against it anyways. If you are were kissed by a leprechaun and covered in pixie dust then you might get 10% of American politicians to vote for the thing.
@Yaruu Salamander, I'm not an american either, but a friend of mine who is broke his leg and is now saddled with $10k of debt due to needing surgery. Given her injuries, I can see her medical bills being much higher.
You have to realize though that since 2016 that some people are trying to attribute negativity to words that generally aren’t seen as negative. I.e white dudes, whitey, white males, straight white male etc.
I don't get the people getting mad about it, but it's obvious it's just reading headlines. I mean are they reeeally gonna say he can't hire black people over white people? I mean that's the movie he wants to make. Captain America is a white American with blonde hair and blue eyes, and that's his character. That's how he was created. If people changed that, there would be outrage. So if the creators can pick specifics, why can't the director pick specifics for the characters they wanna make?
For that many MEPs to make the mistake is a sign that the EU vote could be rigged to be as confusing as possible. That would make brexit a very wise move. Even just the possibility that this could happen is a valid reason for brexit...

We've got a ways to go but it's so important to be thankful how far we've come.
@pissedpookie first of all we need to be rid of the "trans panic" laws that let murderers get lesser sentances because they were super startled about a person being trans. The whole community needs job and housing protections, we have the right to work and rent property without having to conform to other people's gender and sexual expectations. I think bathroom bills are unnecessary and only exist to make trans people feel unwelcome in social spaces. As far as sports goes i'm so torn on that one, i'm not a huge fan of sports so it doesn't effect me at all but i know people who are effected. Hormone therapy gives trans people an unfair advantage. It isnt fair. I'd suggest a trans league but i know the resistance to that has to do with a rocky history of segregation in sport. But we do still have segregated women's and men's leagues so maybe it wouldnt be such a crazy idea? Idk, friend it's messy, but i believe that if we all get over ourselves a bit and actually work together we can come up with solutions that would actually work. *shrug* "you may say i'm a dreamer" and whatnot. Here’s how I’d explain the whole thing with Peele. Imagine you had two little kids, one black and one white, each with a bowl of candy. The white child has 50 pieces of candy, and the black kid has 5. Now let’s say you have a handful of candy to give out. Would it be racist to say “hey the white kid has plenty of candy, I’ll give some to the black kid.” It isn’t racist, it’s just fair (and given the critical acclaim that both of Peele’s movies have gotten, his movies clearly aren’t made worse for casting black actors/actresses) I doubt anyone who actually says it’s “racist” truly believes that. They’re trying to make a cheap gotcha point based on the erroneous assumption that black actors and white actors are on an even playing field.
Nerdy Jeremy you could argue that she was thinking of jumping, but by actually interfering and creating a chain of factual causality, such thoughts are irrelevant. The situation occurred as it occurred. And if I myself want to jump, it does not mean I consent to anyone pushing me.
@Nerdy Jeremy "it appears that the girl and at least one other guy were poised to jump off the bridge of their own accord" The their own accord part of that statement is key, if they jumped off of their own accord they are responsible for their own actions.
smart people would never be standing on that bridge in the first place. to me it is: 1) dumb teen does dumb thing (climbing over the rail; it's there for a reason) 2)impulsive teen does dumb thing (pushes dumb teen) 3)physics happens not attempted murder because not that much thought went into it. just a whole bunch stupidity lands a teen in the hospital. give her a day or 10 years, who cares? it happens all the time all across the country and making an example of her won't stop the next dumb teen. btw, my favorite part: because she didn't stop by the river to see if she was okay or visit her in the hospital or call to see how she was doing, part of the sentence was the pushing girl could not have contact with the injured girl for 2 years. Sounded like she was already well ahead of the judge on that one!
Jordan Peele's comment was fine, and he's really sounding like he's just really stoked to be able to make the movies he wants to make, without having to compromise his dreams of black Americans getting prominent roles. It's just frustrating, because when media takes advantage of headlines like this, they're inadvertently supporting the sensationalism of white nationalist talking points. This isn't an isolated incident.
You aren't supposed to get two days after pushing someone off of a goddamn bridge! I understand that there is supposed to be leniency for accepting a plea deal, but this absurd! 😡
Guys, I think pushing someone off a bridge that high IS really dumb, having said that. You guys aren't thinking with all of the facts in mind: "In an interview last week with ABC Portland, Oregon, affiliate KATU from her hospital bed, Holgerson described the moments leading up to the push. She had initially wanted to jump off the bridge after seeing a friend do it," Someone else had already jumped off the bridge and was fine. No one thought that the height was fatal or would cause injuries. I can attest, as someone who's made a jump like that but was dumb enough to look down as I did it, the pain and injuries come from the faceplant. BECAUSE she was pushed, she hits the water at the WRONG angle. She lands face first followed by her chest. If her friend had merely pushed her a foot and a half lower, her angle would have caused no injuries whatsoever. In my case, I was falling feet first, so outside of a burning face, boiling eyes, and the feel like the pain in my face would kill me, I was fine. If I had fallen at that angle it would be a different story.

Black people make up a much smaller portion of the population, therefore it makes perfect sense that they also make up a much smaller portion of Hollywood actors... you know because there's less of them... I really don't understand what about that is so hard to follow, there is no "catching up" to be done by ethnic minority actors they are already proportionally represented in the industry (if not overrepresented). So to imply that white actors are the leads in most Hollywood movies because of some kind of prejudice is completely ridiculous, if the general public really cared about the skin colour of actors, then you wouldn't have industry giants like; will smith, morgan freeman, samuel l jackson, jamie foxx etc.

What about Will Smith ? Do you think they were looking for blue people to play the genie, or famous good actors ? Should all gay acting rules be open to gay actors ? The more you limit the acting role options, the worse your movie will be. Especially if you hire from diversity and not from talent. If the director has a specific character and ethnicity he wants to take for the roll, that's fine, but stating that he will only take actors of a certain skin color for all future movies, even ones he hasn't made a specific character for yet, then that's as blatantly racist move as you can make.

It's not often that women who are as dark-skinned as Lupita N'yongo get lead rolls in big budget films where the character has depth and layers and is relatable. Representation matters and it's so refreshing to see a director take a chance with casting like that.
Honestly though, why does representation matter? Aren't we all just people under the skin? Is it because racism exists? If racism had never existed then would representation be a problem, even if there was a lack of diversity?
@@Mori White people have a tendency to see it as taking opportunities away from us. I understand that sentiment, but a lot of us forget or just don't know how much less opportunity there is for non-white actors in Hollywood.
First world problems... Representation only matters to the people in the industry, not the consumers on the whole. Telling jordan peele to cast a white male as the lead is like forcing Michael Bay to stop using lenseflair and explosions. Its part of the angle from which he tells stories. He said that he doesnt see himself doing it, not that nobody else should either. The article was pretty good even thought they only focused on the one part.
@@morgangrosser357 To be fair, it IS a bit of a double standard on the media's part (not on Peele's), but in the end, this doesn't actually matter all that much. The anti-sjw crowd is (as usual) blowing it out of proportion to create the next 'controversy', to keep the clicks rolling in..... ironically just like the mainstream media they claim to hate so much.
Ebon Behelit that’s a good term, anti-sjw. I have a theory that the reason there are so many young conservatives who love people like Ben Shapiro and crowder (I don’t hate crowder, I actually watch his videos but often disagree) is simply because they hate sjw’s. Since they associate sjw’s with liberals, they automatically hate liberals too and find themselves in the conservative group. I know multiple people who are like this. They are generally reasonable, good people who lean toward the right simply because sjw’s are pushing them away
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with what Jordan Peele said. I think it’s wonderful that he wants to use his platform to give opportunities to actors that didn’t always have those opportunities afforded to them
Would you still be saying that if a white director said he'd never cast a black man in his movies? Be honest, you'd be calling him a racist. And that, right there, is the problem.
@@War450 No, the problem is thinking POC have the same opportunities as everyone else and when someone in the business goes to do that you get mad. There's plenty of white directors who have never hired a POC as the lead, or ever, they just don't say it out loud.
@@War450 How do you not see the difference? The overwhelming majority of movies made today have white male leads. Peele's point is that his success has given him position where he can hire minorities in big budget movies. Which is still a very rare thing. They're actors who don't have the same opportunities as those white male leads who're much more likely to be case in the majority of movies out there than the black leads that Peele casts in his.
@@War450 I think it all comes down reasoning. Peele has a valid reason. Otherwise if doing that was nothing but a "because I can" then I'd agree with you.
No one cares of the race/color of any one in films all people want are good films with good actors, but the media and holly wood will keep pushing identity politics regardless.
@@MindlessTube I wouldn't say that. A lot of minorities want to see themselves in lead roles because it rarely happens and is as successful as Get Out or Black Panther. @@jarisfurry So you can only relate to a character that looks like you? So when I was growing up and related with Belle from Beauty and the Beast (1991) and Elisa Maza, Goliath and Brooklyn from the tv show Gargoyles despite not being a woman, black and native american or a Gargoyle you are saying that my mind made a mistake I needed to look up to fictional characters that shared my exact physical traits that I could not change? Look I am all for diversity but write a great character first and let the role go to the best person for the part otherwise you will get a bunch of fictional characters that are diverse but horribly written and not memorable. Plus, if you specifically take one group off the table in terms of casting you are not being diverse you are being selective. One recent example I can think of is Umbrella Academy it is diverse but they wrote great characters and gave the roles to the best choices to play the characters.
About Jordan Peele, but with all politics aside: can’t we just let talented & interesting people do what they like with their art? Why do we all feel so good about telling creators who they should hire to tell their stories? I wouldn’t walk into my favorite restaurant and tell the kitchen what kind of lettuce to buy. Just seems a little weird to me.
I just think it's weird, but I'm from Norway and we have a lot of natives(norwegians and Samis), and a few immigrants to in movies and series, because we often don't care. So I don't know.
Agreed, just let people create their art as their mind envisioned it (whether it's a book, film, video game etc.) and this applies to both sides of the argument. If people want to see and support more black actors then go ahead but don't shame and put down other films that decided not to feature black actors and say it's because of racism.
I agree, mainstream media is a joke spreading all this misinformation. I don't give a shit the color of the skin of the person in the movie I'm watching has. If that director wants to cast green and orange martians as their main cast, that's their decision and I'll watch it if it seems like a movie with a plot I'm interested in.
Eaxctly, it's their movie and they can do whatever the hell they want. It's not gonna make a difference to me, if it's a good movie i'll watch it. If they can meanwhile promote diversity in lead role casting then more power to them.
While I fully defend Jordan Peele having the right to cast in his movies who he wants and I think it can be done in a non-racist way, the defences you and others have provided are pretty dehumanizing. How can you justify denying a white person a role because of the success of other white people entirely unrelated to him. How can you deny his individuality and force upon him a racial identity without it being racist? John Doe was a guy down on his luck but worked incredibly hard to get into the industry but suffered nothing but setback after setback. He's never had success. But finally he has his chance at his big break only to get turned down for the role. Why? Because he's white and has already had too much success. He's not a individual, he's not a human being, he's a skin color.
Honestly, if she showed up at the hospital and said "I'm so sorry, I didn't realize how had it was gonna be," we would never have heard about this story and they might still be friends.

What I think people don’t understand is he said he won’t cast a white male as a lead, HE DIDN’T SAY HE WON’T CAST THEM AT ALL. Hollywood has been doing it for years, white lead and a black minor role. I’m proud of him in this case, he’s doing what white directors have been doing in Hollywood FOR YEARS just with a different race. But when he has a black political representation we have a problems, but as a African American growing up with Television and seeing SO MANY white movies with white leads, white shows with white leads, what’s the problem? @@angelashelley8184 I wouldn't judge. Most of (us) the viewers are not from a place where those laws are implemented and can't relate to or feel involved with the idea of being stoned to death.
Galileo Cappella I understand. However, when these religious nut jobs are getting these kinds of things passed into law it worries me for our future. All the more reason to keep religion as far away from politics as possible.
Angela Shelley religions bother me in general but it’s funny that the left will give a white Christian a ton of shit for not wanting to see gays get married but they’ll give a pass to Muslims who want to see gays dead. Not all Muslims to be fair but not all white Christians think the same way either. I do believe in god but I choose to not take part in organized religions that seem to think they have the right ideas about god.
I agree. I'm so sick of seeing the same 2 arguements. One side: There isn't enough black people/females in the lead. The other: There is only black people/females in the lead because of SJWs. I personally hate both of those stances.
I think people are extra critical when a minority gets a lead role because either people shove cultural responsibility on that person or because they are seen as the change that ruined the movie when it was something entirely different.
I agree. If it fits in the story go for it. It can fit in 99% of stories naturally. What bothers me, as an aspiring to writer, is when a character has no purpose beyond being representation, or if who they are clashes with that particular character trait. An Irish person who's family has lived there for centuries and is deeply involved with the culture and, for lack of a better term, politics is not likely to be black. It would be irrational. The Irish are notoriously pale, and while there are black people in Ireland, most of them are still first or second generation from Nigeria is Ghana and have stayed in their own groups thanks to significant cultural differences. But that is a rather specific situation. Many Western countries have much more diversity than Ireland. Probably because we were so poor no one wanted to come here until recently. As many, many movies are set in America, where there exists much more diversity than some countries because of it's history as the country of immigrants, it would make perfect sense in most stories to just make one of your characters black or Asian or whatever your heart desires.
@@MrAllallalla It's a fair reflex to have. It isn't even that I mind people pushing the agenda, the issue is often how clouded their attention is in the situation. When they put too much attention in their agenda, they overlook other issues that might cause the film to be unenjoyable. I can rant all day about all sorts of movies, like the recent ghostbusters movie that totally wasn't pushing a sjw agenda that even went as far as hurting the sjw agenda by having a stereotypical character that's essentially the "loud black woman". Put some clown makeup on her face to exaggerate her lip size and we have a throwback to what we had nearly a century ago, it's disgusting. There's also Annihilation from 2012 where it has an all woman cast, totally fulfilling the woman power agenda by making nearly half the cast either a useless moron or an annoying stereotype. You have the lesbian that has to remind the audience she's a lesbian by sexually harassing every straight woman in her path because either that's what lesbians do or because they just had to include lesbians somehow and they're too lazy to do it in a tasteful way and you have the same chick that's suppose to be a medic/soldier that freaks out the moment she sees a little bit of blood. Really? These chicks work for the military, right? There were so many stupidly made mistakes too that made the characters come off as stupid. I feel like if they focused on just making a good movie with believable characters, it would have been more progressive than the final product. It's not that there's anything WRONG with movies that have a humble agenda, by all means, get us some more movies with strong female leads and minority leads. I for one find good movies that stand out in any way, including characters that are unique by both their character and physical traits, interesting and therefore a good thing. However, almost always, you get a mess like the recent Star Wars movie (if you have a fucking brilliant plan, tell your fucking soldiers so they don't rebel, you fucking donkey. They're not going to tell the bad guys, just fucking tell them), Annihilation (seriously, half the characters in the movie are ass, the other half are okay. The only reason I would still say the movie is alright is because the scenery and setting heavily compensates for the shit character design), Ghostbusters (every female is a stereotype in the movie with cliche characters, including the black clown, the movie is a racist film at best, sexist *and* racist at worst. The worst crime is the actors are not even at fault, they were qualified to do better), and the list goes on. It feels like at least half the movies that try to hard not only hurts their agenda, but possibly hurt their movie trying to. If you can't push your agenda without ruining the film and contradicting your agenda in the process, fucking don't do it.
actors like Will Smith, Eddie Murphy, Laurence Fishburne and many more landed incredible rolls because they were incredible actors. They didn't need anybody pushing A diversity agenda to give them a leg up.

I'm not sure I really get the narrative of this current renaissance of minorities finally getting place in Hollywood, I think to suggest this is to shit on the legacy of some of the most highly respected and biggest stars of the last 30-40 years. Jackson, Jamie Foxx, Don Cheadle, Eddie Murphy, Billy Dee Williams, Michael Clarke Duncan, Terrence Howard, Martin Lawrence, Charles S. Dutton, Idris Elba, Tyrese Gibson, James Earl Jones, Keith David, Min-sik Choi, Irrfan Khan, Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Hiroyuki Sanada, Bruce Lee, George Takei, Lucy Liu there is literally hundreds. These are some of the most iconic names in movie history, many have starred in the leading roles the biggest Blockbusters ever made like Star Wars, Men In Black, Independence Day, The Matrix and many of the most respected Pulp Fiction, Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, in the 90's Will Smith was probably the highest paid actor in Hollywood his Face was everywhere, he had a hit TV show and Multi Platinum albums. When I was growing up there was about a 10-15 year period where the all the most famous people in the world, musicians, actors, athlete's where all minorities Mike Tyson Boxing, Michael Jackson Singing, Will Smith, Samuel L Jackson Actings, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg music was charting so hard everyone worldwide from 6 - 60 was listening to it, James Earl Jones has a leading role in 6 of the top 20 highest grossing films of all time! 5 SW films and The Lion King, name me a white actor that has done that?
Luke Gibson I feel like it’s also about what kind of roles are given as well. Many of the actors you mentioned often are cast in specific period pieces, or cast as characters that use violence, or are a black sidekick. But in the horror genre, where the protagonists are vulnerable and sympathetic, there’s a huge dirth of black leads. Often blacks people in media have to play very specific roles, and aren’t given the same “ingenue” status as white actors. It’s especially hard for dark-skinned black people in Hollywood. See the “paper bag rule”
@@noraekaye I get your point but I just want to make one facetious remark: Do you really want black leads in horror movies? I mean... most horror movies are complete trash!
Well, you kinda threw water on your own argument. You mention James Earl Jones and the amount of top grossing movies he's in. But he isn't the star of any of them. Which is Peele's point. The star of every single Star Wars movie is white. And in The Lion King you're talking about an animated movie. But even if we take race into account there, the star of the movie was Simba. He's voiced by two white people. Jonathan Taylor Thomas in his cub form and Matthew Broderick in his adult form. Peele's genre of choice, at least at the moment, is the horror genre. How many big budget horror movies can you think of where the main character is black?
What possesses you to push your supposed friend off such a high up bridge? I also desperately hope the situation in Brunei changes, you shouldn't be killed or persecuted for your sexual orientation.

It doesn't matter how much i explain it to you. You wouldn't agree with me. "because of our diffrences"
I personally don't have a problem with what Jordan Peele said, it's the hypocritical reaction that bothers me. Most of the people praising him would be absolutely outraged if the races were reversed. I just find it strange.
Considering that white people have done nothing but be at he upper hand since he beginning of this country, its should be obvious as to why there would be outrage. Jordan's words could have been phrased better but I see his point. He historically makes movies about black people mainly for black people so having a white lead wouldn't make much sense. He is giving opportunities to young minorities who also historically are eradicated from Hollywood. It's less of a double standard and more of understanding the history in the film industry and its disdain for nonwhites.
Not really. Woody Allen said something very similar years aho, about not wanting cast Black actors unless he "absolutely needed to". Wanna know what happened? He's never cast any Black people (or POCs for that matter) in any of his films.....And he's still making movies in Hollywood. No outrage from Hollywood or White people at all. Huh.
The followup of "I've already seen that movie" is pretty important. To me, at least, it says he's wants to tell stories from different cultural perspectives, the color isn't the important part. For years we've heard people whine and demand that all existing straight white male directors tell the stories of minorities, and every time I've told them to fuck off and do it themselves. Peele decided to do it himself, and he's doing a damn good job.

Peel should have just done like every other director and said nothing while continuing to do what he wanted. Problem avoided. Maybe its me, but it seems like there were actually more black leads (at least males) in the 90's than there are today.
Could that perhaps be because 90s had more quality black actors? Where are the Denzels and Morgans of today? Hmm... I wonder... Both US and GET OUT would not have been the same movie if they didnt have a black lead role. The plots were dependent on a passive black male in the lead. Movies are a work of art and we need to keep the PC BS put of it.
@@darienford860 That's only after turning it on.
It’s a big reason why people like him are fighting for diversity in the first place.
superllamaking Yes. There are some words that should be kept to ourselves and most of us understand that respect.
jameltanderson The reality is, blacks make up 13% of the American population.
Having all black is just as homogeneous as having all white. Diversity is variety. Peele movies are not diverse
I’ve done dumb things too but have always shown remorse when the fault(regardless of accident or not) is mine

That was almost manslaughter*
How long do broken ribs take to heal? Punctured lungs?
Why is this girl being let off so easily???
It's probably because of the dangerous act that they were already doing diving into the waters there. We also don't get the full scene they might have been good friends and were Josh and around intended harm wasn't meant or something that could cause a low sentence like this plus the mother even said she only wanted her in jail is many days is her daughter was in the hospital
@@kateajurors8640 It's hard to imagine that they were good friends given that the girl that pushed her bolted after it instead of going to check to make sure she was okay. It's not like she was going to get away from the police given that she was not only being recorded, but had people all around her.
@@kateajurors8640 it's not likely they were actual friends considering the girl just left the scene after ALMOST KILLING HER and then never visited her 'friend' in the hospital or even afterwards at the house

She has a guilty plea on record now. Bring on the lawsuit.
She pushed her intentionally she should server 2 years in prison.

Simple as that. Lol thank u.
White actors still have a racial advantage with basically 98% of directors. Anyone who finds Peele problematic for that needs to broaden their gaze
@Literally Nobody More like sheer indifference
My thoughts exactly. Who he wants to tell stories about isn't my business.

I agree with you, however I fear that many (and probably Jordan as well) want to equalise the gap, which I find pretty worrying.
Equal representation based on race only matters if people identify with their race, which I think is an incredibly dangerous road.
A disparity may signify unjust discrimination, however the way to deal with that it to tackle the racism, not try and destroy a disparity.
Shouldn’t the representation in US films be proportionate to the percentage of the population?

That said, I think there are better ways unless you intend to make race the permanent focus.
its always ok till someone only wants to hire whites.
@@Nickie102 Nothing wrong with all black cast movie like Black Panther. The point is that it should be fine to do an all white cast movie also. Directors should be able to tell whatever story they want to.

@@a1175779 don't push people off of bridges and you dont have to worry about jail time.
That is if they do finally take the power over the nation that they want and abolish the Constitution. Which they will, the moment they take power.

@Yaruu Salamander has anyone ever told you how obnoxious you are?
@Yaruu Salamander, I'm not an american either, but a friend of mine who is broke his leg and is now saddled with $10k of debt due to needing surgery. Given her injuries, I can see her medical bills being much higher.

@pissedpookie first of all we need to be rid of the "trans panic" laws that let murderers get lesser sentances because they were super startled about a person being trans. I think bathroom bills are unnecessary and only exist to make trans people feel unwelcome in social spaces.

Here’s how I’d explain the whole thing with Peele. Imagine you had two little kids, one black and one white, each with a bowl of candy. The white child has 50 pieces of candy, and the black kid has 5. Now let’s say you have a handful of candy to give out. Would it be racist to say “hey the white kid has plenty of candy, I’ll give some to the black kid.” It isn’t racist, it’s just fair (and given the critical acclaim that both of Peele’s movies have gotten, his movies clearly aren’t made worse for casting black actors/actresses)
I doubt anyone who actually says it’s “racist” truly believes that. They’re trying to make a cheap gotcha point based on the erroneous assumption that black actors and white actors are on an even playing field.

btw, my favorite part: because she didn't stop by the river to see if she was okay or visit her in the hospital or call to see how she was doing, part of the sentence was the pushing girl could not have contact with the injured girl for 2 years. Sounded like she was already well ahead of the judge on that one!

Yup same, apparantly you'll only get 2 days jail time anyway, worth it.

Guys, I think pushing someone off a bridge that high IS really dumb, having said that. You guys aren't thinking with all of the facts in mind:
"In an interview last week with ABC Portland, Oregon, affiliate KATU from her hospital bed, Holgerson described the moments leading up to the push. She had initially wanted to jump off the bridge after seeing a friend do it,"
Someone else had already jumped off the bridge and was fine.
Yeah, she almost killed her, judging on the look on her face b/c she was impatient. Pretty crap friend and human lol

"I believe she pushed my daughter intentionally." No shit, did you watch the video.

I understand why the mom had to clarify, even people locally are brushing it off as a friendly shove. No, that girl was malicious, other videos show the older girl yelling at her before the shove.
She got off way to easy
That's not even the question, the question is did she mean harm by it or was it just a dumb mistake that she thought would end fine because of all the other people that jump off that bridge into the water and end up being fine.

@john doe So you think Sam Jackson was given the rule of nick fury (a white person in the comics) because he was black, or because he was a great famous actor who will put butts in seats ? What about Will Smith ? Do you think they were looking for blue people to play the genie, or famous good actors ? Should all gay acting rules be open to gay actors ? The more you limit the acting role options, the worse your movie will be. Especially if you hire from diversity and not from talent.
If the director has a specific character and ethnicity he wants to take for the roll, that's fine, but stating that he will only take actors of a certain skin color for all future movies, even ones he hasn't made a specific character for yet, then that's as blatantly racist move as you can make.
@@noname-dg6ii No, it isn't the definition of racism. Look up the word if you don't know its definition. It is an example of discrimination. The fact that people are so angry over a director making his own choices for his movies regarding black actors is very telling.

Eaxctly, it's their movie and they can do whatever the hell they want. It's not gonna make a difference to me, if it's a good movie i'll watch it. If they can meanwhile promote diversity in lead role casting then more power to them.
I 100% agree with you there.
Yeah, white isn’t the default the character can be any colour and it’s nice to see more variety/diversity in lead roles

What you just said doesn't fit the narrative, so it's false.

@@Aj-sn1dp he doesnt just make movies for black people he makes movies for all people, the movies just happen to have a black cast.
Not really. Woody Allen said something very similar years aho, about not wanting cast Black actors unless he "absolutely needed to". Wanna know what happened? The followup of "I've already seen that movie" is pretty important. To me, at least, it says he's wants to tell stories from different cultural perspectives, the color isn't the important part. For years we've heard people whine and demand that all existing straight white male directors tell the stories of minorities, and every time I've told them to fuck off and do it themselves. Peele decided to do it himself, and he's doing a damn good job.

isaac ocheng ... CONTEXT MATTERS! To entertain your FAILED logic ... what’s in “their power” to ensure a prison sentence? The Court system! So that implies subversive of the Courts to assure THEIR preferred outcome ...HMMMMMM
Erine120 ... sorry buddy ANYTHING and EVERYTHING is a clear indication of your thoughts on Fair and Impartial Justice.
I don't understand why people care so much about what two consenting adults do behind closed doors, if it keeps you up at night thinking about what they're going you might have a whole other issue you need to come to terms with.
The same reason you care what another country does in it's borders?
@@spelcheak But this country is killing people. A potentially cutting off the limbs of children. If that doesn't make you sad and want to help idk man
@@spelcheak seems to me like she cares about people getting murdered for their sexuality. Were you trying to cast that like it's bad that she cares about others?
The law made sense 1000 years ago when we were struggling with population problems. We needed people to make babies, to work and farm food. But yes, now it is not necessary. Muslims are 1000years behind.
@@pluto8404 and the worst part is there are those here in the US that would relish having those laws if they could have their way...
How do you accidentally say “yes” instead of “nay”
Yay-nay. Sounds close enough
Joshua Hales honestly couldn’t remember how to spell yay so I just used yes
You're such a maniac that you actually don't care about the shit you vote for since you're rich anyway.
@@christianbh 😂😂😂 I appreciate the honesty
When it comes to Jordan Peeled. That is his right to cast whoever he wants in his films. I think people need to lay off him and let him create the great films that he dose. Who are we to tell the artist how to create
Peel should have just done like every other director and said nothing while continuing to do what he wanted. Problem avoided.
Maybe its me, but it seems like there were actually more black leads (at least males) in the 90's than there are today.
No doubt, the 90s was the black Hollywood awakening
Could that perhaps be because 90s had more quality black actors? Where are the Denzels and Morgans of today? Hmm... I wonder... Maybe meritocracy is an actual thing, as opposed to worrying about "equal representation" bullshit? You cast the people that bring in the money, regardless of skin color? How come nobody is bitching about "equal representation" in NBA? Oh it's only an issue if the "representation" favors white people for whatever reason.... I see... unless of course it's something they want none of... like dangerous jobs.
@@budala1969 I mean there's a lot of good minorities that are acting today I think of more trashy white actors to be honest you've gotta take into account white people have intentionally made black people and minorities look bad in the industry
@@landonbrawe6865 black people do a good enough job of making themselves look bad. They don't need the help of the white man.
@@landonbrawe6865 Nonsense. Where is your proof of such a claim? All I see nowadays is ridicule and painting of a negative image of white people.
