- With Hogwarts Legacy coming out in less than a month, more people are purchasing the game through preorders daily. I will be diving into each of the Hogwarts Legacy editions (Standard, Deluxe, and Collectors') and revealing the best purchase. Each of the versions has its own benefits at different price points, but there is a clear standout amongst the three options.

This has to be one of the most hideous collector edition item I have ever seen FFS, how in the world could they come with something as silly and horrible as this lame book?

Personally, I would’ve made 4 separate house-themed collectors editions with maybe a house scarf or robe set, house poster, or something pertaining to house merch. It wouldn’t be much of a risk as that stuff sells quite quickly

I’m excited for this game by a mile. BUT it is upsetting that they have playstation exclusives only and nothing for others (I’m PC)!!
The exclusive is only for like 3-5 months then everyone else can do the quest

@@isabellaskye9950 It still gives PS users a better start in the game for over a year which is quite annoying. They should at least give other platforms something as a way of making sure not one person is ahead of the game just because of the platform they are using.
It'd be nice if you can only ride the thestral mount if your character has seen death
based on the gameplay our wizards are gonna see death a lot lol unless it's just like you "knock out" enemies

A few nights ago on Friday night steam had a error and they had added it to there sale area for $5.99 for the deluxe edition it only lasted for like 30 min and I was able to buy it they sent me a email explaining the error and they said I can keep it for that price wow I was so happy

£10 extra in UK for deluxe. Easy purchase for Deluxe. Any other edition is stupid in comparison at that price.
I was working myself up to drop $100-$120 for the collectors edition but I think I’ll buy the deluxe… a magnetic wand is cool and the kelpy robe is alright plus the mission and personal store sounded awesome but not for $300👏🏻
I wish people stopped buying more expensive versions of a game for items and skins that are already in the game. Maybe then this shit trend will die out

@@bestmaaad I think it really depends on what the expensive version is. I bought the Collections Edition of Titanfall for my husband, back in the day. It was ~$200 (cant remember the exact price) but it came with this MASSIVE (over a foot tall), heavy/well-made statue. That thing is still in our game room, and everyone who comes in and sees it is like "WOAH! That's cool". It really is pretty awesome.
I think if an expensive version of the game actually comes with memorabilia that's worth $100+, and that memorabilia is something you would buy for your home collection, then it's worth the money.
I'm not even a Harry Potter fan. But I'm so excited about this game! Makes me wanna go watch the movies just to see what I'm getting into.

You should absolutely watch the movies, but keep in mind that this game is set in an entirely different timeframe and has no character overlaps (so that its your story rather than you being part of Harry Potter's story) so it's not even essential to know those stories. Obviously there's shared family names with the original story and plenty of references but it seems fairly open to those who don't know the books/movies.
Amazing to see non-fans excited for the game though! I've loved Harry Potter for a long time and seen a fair bit of gatekeeping surrounding the game, but I hope you enjoy the stories as much as I do :)

While I will still be picking this up, I'm not overly pleased with the idea of platform exclusive content. Exclusivity deals in and of themselves irk me greatly these days, what with the increased reliance on digital distribution, but I understand why said deals exists. I do find it reprehensible that content is being locked away from customers based on their platform of choice. Even if this is only for x amount of time.

Agree. I’m buying on PS5 due to the controller extras, but I’m not happy even though I will get the extra content for PS5. It’s a ugly business practice.

While I know a lot of people are eager to play, the smartest route is probably to just wait a few weeks. That will give time for full independent reviews to come in and for major bugs to get fixed so that your initial playthrough experience is better. Or if you really want to get the pre-order cosmetics, at least wait until the last second to order so you can get some feedback from the early players, playing non-stop the first couple days, to get an idea if it will be a buggy mess at release.

@@nicolassalathe6905 i literally feel the same way! It can be a whole bubbky pile of hogswash and i woild still play it just to fly around hogwarts. Like my favorite thing about the ps5 spiderman was finally being able to zipp around the city as spidey and it felt perfect.

The only thing that makes me wanna get the deluxe edition is the extra battle arena; cosmetics and 3 day early access I really don't much care for. But I'm not really in a rush so I may just get the standard and buy the extra arena later.

I mean the amount of things to do in this game, that people with spend months on each of them:
1) Each common room, finding every nook and cranny for everything
2) The castle itself: finding all the halls, paintings, secrets, puzzles, rooms, easter eggs, and just soaking in every nook of the castle and it's grounds as well.
3) Room of Requirement: customizing your room and magical creature pasture
4) The entire open world will take months of walking and flying around just to see it all from a high level.
5) Finding all the secrets and easter eggs out there to find too (which might take you walking the entire thing)
6) Seasons which will make you want to go places multiple times
7) Playing as good then as bad to see gameplay differences
8) Classes if there's any component of you having to memorize anything to pass any tests etc.
And then you have the actual gameplay and story line to follow This will be the biggest game of the year sales wise, purchase wise, and gamer channel viewing wise no doubt.
I hope you are right. And indeed, the footage looks promising.
But AAA games in recent years... low expectations and you can only be satisfied, amazed even. High expectations and you could risk great disappointment.

Lol all that can be done in probably a month or less. Look at the games this studio has previously made...this game is for the people who wanted to make their own hogwarts journey with exploring sprinkled throughout but it’s nowhere near as detailed as any Harry Potter movie or book. The world here looks pretty empty so I wouldn’t expect too much
Yeah you're getting your hopes up way to high with this list brother. No shot it will have all that it should be a good RPG experience, not months worth of detail in each common room lmao
The disappointing thing for me is no online co-op. When I first saw this game being able to play with some friends was my first thought then that went out the window. It would have increased the long term fun factor for sure.
They could add that in as a dlc. Same thing happens to ghost of Tsushima legends. We will see

In case anyone wanted to know, the digital deluxe also grants you access to the last gen versions when they release in April.

I think depending on how much the in-game purchases for the dark arts arena is than standard is the best option for casual fans, because it still gives you the free mount which I'm assuming will be usable as soon as creature mounts are available in game, having said that even though I have last gen still I bought the x/s deluxe as it gives you both the x/s and one versions so if I decide to get a next gen console I'll still be able to play the game, I've been holding off on a next gen because I have a PC I built and don't see much value in next gen other than the fact my friends are console gamers, and if I end up getting a next gen it will be solely to play this game earlier

That is excellent news to hear that previous console gen like PS4 and Xbox One will have the game ready to install and boot up without inconveniences from glitches and bugs from the game and them damn updates. From my experience about these "in-game exclusive" cosmetics and rewards, I think it is not as valuable as it sounds. One reason is that I like physical or tangible exclusive products more. Moreover, the rewards that are available in-game will be enough to suffice for things such as mounts and cosmetics or it may be more to your liking than the ones offered from the advertised exclusive. In addition, I found that exclusive DLCs aren't really that unique when later on they make it available in stores for purchase. This could mean that the advertised mounts and the robes for your character might be available for purchase as additional DLC after some time the game has debuted.
This game looks amazing. I do wish they would have made a good and evil system like Fable. Those games were so fun choosing whether to be good or bad and seeing the repercussions in the world
I loved watching those moments that other people came encountered with on youtube. I don't play Fable but I'd like to some day.

I was going to buy the deluxe disc edition but most of the bonus seems to be when you preorder. I have never preordered a game, i always wait for reviews and patches before buying so it looks like I'll be getting the standard edition or wait for a ultimate/game of the year edition with all the cosmetics.

Those preorder robes have me excited for what type of things we will see in game as rewards. Animated "magical" textures on clothing just sounds like such a cool feature and I doubt they only used it for some preorder items. I'm going for the deluxe edition but I'm not excited for the early access time. Its just going to be people early testing the game and dealing with bugs (and I would rather avoid getting to invested if there are game breaking issues day 1)
I got AC Odyssee 3 days early and it ran fine. Came with a day 1 patch and everything. 3 days isn't going to make or break a game if it's ready on the 10th it's ready on the 7th
Some content creators have been given early access for a few hours to show the game's condition and it looks relatively bug free (disregarding some rendering/loading issues but that's to be expected from a demo) so I'm fairly confident in the 72 hour deluxe early access. As for the robes, the dark arts robe got me real excited - I really hope theres more animated ones cus it looks amazing

I hear you. Honestly this game looks too good to be coming from a studio who has produced a total of zero triple A titles before it. But we have been surprised before and all the pre release stuff they’ve been showing looks great.
@@mandrews6282 Agree, the last games this team worked on were Cars 3 and a now failed and defunct Wizards Unite mobile game.
The problem is that a large portion of this games target audience aren't gamers, they're Harry Potter fans who are buying consoles for the first time just to play this. Even if the game is unfinished, below par or buggy, these kinds of players will accept it and play it regardless; much like the Pokémon fanbase.
I havnt bought a full price game in a while, but this has been something I was interested in since I first heard. Ill more than likely get the deluxe pre-order, but its just insane to me, how they release games these days. Im fully expecting paid DLC's...
Please don’t preorder, I’d say wait a day or two after release or check out some reviews from some people who got a free review copy early. I don’t want you to be disappointed and 100 bucks in the hole homie

I had the PS5 Deluxe Edition pre-ordered since the moment it was available, because in my country the price difference for Digital Deluxe vs physical Deluxe was significant. However I noticed that the Digital Deluxe price has gone down to the same price the physical Deluxe Edition so I just canceled the physical one and bought the digital deluxe. Thankfully I had the physical edition of the game pre-order with the option to pay in person instead of immediately so I could use the saved money on the Digital Deluxe for PS5. I can't wait till the 7th.

its only an extra $10 you might as well get the deluxe and get a second mount that you may or may not use but accessing the dark arts seems like a fun time. but you could also buy the dark arts later who knows how much extra it could be
I hear you can learn them in the game once you discover them. Probably the better more immersive way to obtain them.

Thats why the deluxe edition is nice. Let people get the game 3 days earlier and just look at the gameplay. Then you can still play it by friday or wait a couple of months before the game is fixed.

gonna go for the standard edition. Its nice to see how the game plays from people that get the deluxe edition. Have a little bit of a bad experience with pre-orderds as of lately with cyberpunk and BF 2042. With a bit of luck the game is playable and i can still get the pre-order with the extra's for the 10th.
$110 for ultimate... Biggest regret I've had in gaming ever.

I love Harry Potter but I've been burned by so many AAA games in recent years that I can't help but go into this expecting problems and rushed unfinished features. It just seems like part of modern gaming now.
It's good to be skeptical with this game. It's by far the most ambitious game this company has made so it stands to reason that they COULD knock it out the park, but history shows that doesn't happen often. I will wait and see and if it looks worth it after launch then I can play it. If not, I won't feel burned once again.
Simple way to prevent this is waiting some weeks and then see how it comes out, and then decide if it's worth the buy or if it needs more time to iron the kinks out

@@staffy3490 Yes. It's a project that will never truly be finished. There's still so many features that they haven't had time or the resources to implement. Quidditch being the biggest example.
I wonder if Pre-Ordering the standard edition will still be available on Steam on the 7th, 8th, and 9th of Feb. I have had too many bad experiences with the release of highly hyped pre-orders. Anyone remember Cyberpunk 2077 or Battlefield 2042? My plan is waiting to hear the feedback from players that pre-ordered the deluxe edition when they get their 3 day head start.

you know how you get a few hours before your refund expires on games? I wonder how thatd work if we pre-order... can I pre-order, see gameplay and reviews, then just refund if I dont like what I see?
@@666narutomanfan I think that would be dependant on the refund policy of each platform. For example, Steam has a 14 day, 2 hour policy where if you've played the game less than 2 hours and within 14 days of the official release, you can get a refund. Of course that rule isn't set on stone. If the game is broken or unplayable (like cyberpunk 2077 on release) the developers could give the platforms the "go" to provide refunds due to backlash and any other circumstances.

@@666narutomanfan yes, you can refund it on the 10th when the game gets fully launched as long as you played for less than 2 hours. or anytime before that, u could have preordered the game 4 months ago, even tho u passed the 14 days policy u can still refund it because it was a preorder

I dont care too much for the cosmetics and thestral mount and the only reason I would use the 3 days early access would be to try and record some gameplay. If yall can convince me another reason the 72 hours EA is worth it ill prob upgrade since its only ten bucks. Also Getting the dark arts arena is kinda the only thing I want from the DE

It's sad they hide so much behind a pay wall, that's it's worth the price. 3 days early access, and a battle ground where you can test dark art spells without negative side effects.(And a couple of skins).
Gone are the good old days where you bought the entire game for one price.

I've ordered Collector's Editions before pretty close to a release, but it didn't even dawn on me, that OF COURSE there would be a cut off, because of the actual manufacturing of certain items in the box (whereas before, it was items that could be manufactured quickly).
So a bit of a bummer that I missed out, but lesson learned! I'm still enjoying the game regardless!

This was a really great breakdown. Currently debating my first console purchase, this is a deciding factor for sure. Leaning towards Xbox for the Starfield exclusivity.

With Xbox you can get a secondary account, with a VPN add 3 years of Xbox live gold cost around 80-90€ then pay 1€ and make it Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and enjoy 3 years for Game Pass for just 85€. You can have 2 consoles and 10 PCs.
I’d like to see add-on’s, extra content and DLC stuff after the fact. It would be cool if you were granted access upon game completion or during milestones .. but also as a straight up reward for beating the game. better rewards should be granted on higher difficulty settings also. “Deluxe” versions are a total cash grab. If you want it just wait til they sell the discounted deluxe version in a year or so..

I was able to put in my preorder for the deluxe off Bestbuy the day they went live. The preorder bonus from them specifically included a $10 store credit, which will be credited after the game ships ofc. But, seeing as i'll also be buying FF16 off bestbuy as well, its an easy pick in terms of retailers. So essentially, I'm paying the same total price as the standard XD

That’s exactly how I feel because I preordered Callisto protocol before reviews came out and I was heavily disappointed with the game 😭 I bought it for $90! Never again preordering without watching reviews first

My personal experiences with preordering Avalanche Games like Mad Max and Just CAuse 3 tell me that the risk of problems will be lower
I’m hesitant as well after major disappointments with pre-ordering Mass Effect Andromeda and Cyberpunk 2077. I might wait a week or two before I purchase 🤷🏾♀️

I bought the Deluxe Edition (digital ) on Series X. I comes with these cosmetics clothes and all you mentioned. I think however, Those things unlock as you progress. Not sure but from my current play run, it appears so. I would have loved to buy the physical ultimate & I could, perhaps one day but kind of need what’s left of my pocket for a colorful controller. I've preordered the deluxe edition for PC and while I would have liked to get the hogsmead shop quest (as lets be honest, i'm not gonna be playing the same singleplayer story game in a year...) i'm not overly fussed as there seems to be plenty content still available. I'm not gonna get bored quick with this game, not like standard edition doesnt give you the whole game - which is already massive.
So if you can only see thestrals after seeings someone die does that mean that to most of the other students it’s just gonna look like I’m flying in a seated position?

A 1 year exclusive on a game like this doesn't make it any less terrible... we won't be playing the game for a year and then excited to get access to the shop that PS users got at launch. A pretty shitty exclusivity deal.
This kinda crap is why I am SUPER EXCITED for Microsoft to own Bethesda & Activision, Playstation deserves to get backhanded for all their exclusivity bullshit over the last 10 years. They abused it horribly and now they are going to be stomped into oblivion since Microsoft has the money to just buy every studio and lock Playstation out. No sympathy for Sony at all, they know their days are numbered and it was their own doing. Microsoft tried to play fair with them all the time and all PS cared about was more exclusive shit.

also hate the ps exclusivity shit... fun quest gets locked and a potion to mark chests (not really needed tbh) but the quest to own a shop kinda neat but wont make me return for that quest maybe to make another playthrou but not sure if i would return a year later... and yeah i support microsoft in buying out sony... caus ms wont lock content from any platform like sony does... so with ms buying out we all get the same game i hope somehow that crackers can crack the game and unlock the locked dlc (i highly doubt its not in pc version its just locked so ppl just need to figure out how to unlock it) and yes i bought it but if this is made possible i will delete the legit copy and get the unlocked one

Dude I was so pumped about this game, I love single player games but in this case I feel like not having multiplayer is a terrible mistake. I wanted to play Hogwarts Legacy with friends.
Dude I know we need co op and if not quidditch at least duels it doesn’t even have to have competitive multiplayer but there’s no reason I can’t play this game with friends and there’s really retards out here gate keeping it to a single player experience because they have no friends and it HAS TO BE SINGLE PLAYER

Thanks to running on unreal engine 4.. PC users will have access to modding because it's an open source engine. We won't have the PS exclusive haunted hogsmeade shop quest but we will make our own. We will have custom character mods, NPC mods, gameplay mods.. You name it. Think skyrim but at Hogwarts. Playstation fanboys won't like to hear this, but you've been brainwashed. Take tlou1/2, uncharted, GoW.. Every single one of those "AAA" sony games are so extremely linear, the only reason to replay is to go back for the collectable in each level (See GoW and uncharted specifically) Sony has copied the crash bandicoot formula from the 90s on all their games.. straight path, few detours to make it seem bigger than it is. Fill the world with notes you need to read instead of dialogue and characters. If you played uncharted 1, you'll know that it took 20 YEARS to finally get the Drake brothers origin/backstory. You want to see what's ontop of that mountain? Nah invisible wall get fucked. That's why sony will release 5-6 mediocre games a year and will never achieve a true masterpiece like RDR2/BotW. They want quantity not quality, and Sony fans don't know any better. Once they make the move to PC they rarely ever go back. (Source: 25+ years of gaming, 15-20+ hours a day. You'll be hard pressed to find A game I haven't 100% or nearly 100%.)

My main problem is that since I'm going to play on the PS5, I struggle with the idea of paying $80 for a video game, if the base game were $60 and the deluxe edition were $70 I would be much more on board, but I feel like $70 is my threshold for a game
Better get used to it because all next gen games are at least $70. You have 3 choices:
A) Eat the bullet and pay for the standard physically in which by time you’re finished you can return it and hopefully get some money back.
B) Wait for sales. ~2 years wait
C) Pirate it and get everything for free if you got a sorta good pc that has around a 1080 ti/ 5700 xt or higher.
This is also a good opportunity to become a pro member at game stop with game discounts that takes $10 off your games so realistically you’re paying $60 standard for next gen games.
Me, personally, I am going for the deluxe digital so I can have all the content for it. I am a trophy hunter too so that’s also another reason.

the delux edition physical was for preorder but a bunch of people got it randomly canceled and prevented from preorder again and i personally think the only value in the deluxe is the 3 days early access if you got boned and randomly refunded id buy the basic 1 now unless you desperately need cosmetics
