If there were authorities in the stands managing it, that’s a different story. What if one of the fans had a weapon? There were no police there for ages.
The precedent set and any consequences should be burdened on the organisers of the stadium and not the players.

His actions are not only unacceptable but extremely dangerous, bordering on a serious criminal act, punishable by a prison term. It doesn't matter if someone was hit and seriously injured. The whole theme of families’ lives being in danger… there is zero evidence this happened. Plenty of evidence of Uruguay’s directives throwing things to the crowd from their private balcony. It seems irresponsible to poke the crowd and then scream victim. How about throwing glass bottles from the field to the stands? A Uruguay player threw one and hit a Uruguay tech in the head ( can’t make this stuff up!). And Núñez trying to throw a chair to the stands, not defending anyone then. If fans are attacked do they have a right to defend themselves as well?. So maybe the whole story should be verified before the fans are solely to blame.
