Tricks training is a wonderful activity to participate in with you and your dog. It is both mentally and physically enriching for your dog and it improves your skills as your dogs trainer. an easy trick that you can get started with would be paw, or some people refer to that as shake and what you want to make sure you do with tricks training is keep the training fun and positive for your dog. A good recommendation I'd like to give everyone is to resist the temptation to grab whenever training any behavior - you want them to think it through and in order for them to do that you need to break it down into small achievable steps so you're not necessarily looking for the end result you're looking for anything that's moving in the direction of that. So for paw I'm not going to grab at his feet because he might not like that he's also not using his brain if I'm doing the work for him so dogs if they often cannot get something with their mouth they use their feet so I'm going to put a treat right on Jack's nose and I'm going to have my hand ready when he tries to knock them out of my hand because he can't get them with his mouth and I'm just going to wait for that - I'm going to wait for any paw movement whatsoever - he moved his left paw just a little bit so that was a nice baby step - good I got a lot of movement out of the right one - I'm going to try again - good - I say the word good every time he does the behavior correctly and slowly it seems that I will be able to shake with his paw. The repetition of hearing the word good when his paw touches my paw so he makes that association. So now I think I'm ready to take the treats away - good - he ois still going to get one but I don't necessarily want to put them up front anymore and then we can work with a little duration so he can hold it there - oh beautiful - good and now that he's doing that readily if I'd like to put a verbal que on it I'm going to be able to say - Jack - paw - good - and now I've taught my dog to give paw. - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต

My pup tries for a good minute and even does other tricks but in the end she either somewhat gets it or plops down

He's very talktative in the book about his dog training experiences with several different breeds over the years. When he does get to the training chapters, you need to read more slowly, take mental or written notes and try to apply his advice to your pet. That's where i'm at now. Another review is in order aftet i've trained my blue mountain shepherd with brandon mcmillan's method.

The Guide elaborates on the techniques used on the show. The examples given in the th-cam.com/users/postUgkxECnmSvBSv_NGWx4_ChD73pF3NYZwI2F3 are helpful and some of the techniques suggested very useful. One such technique/tool suggested was the lure stick to encourage a small dog to keep up with the heel command. I have a small dog who lags behind smelling any and everything and find it hard to keep bending over while walking to his level. The lure stick is great also for another dogs focus and sprinting at anything that catches her eye. The stories about different dogs, their different temperaments, have been helpful, especially Lulu's: After reading about Lulu's challenges I felt relief concerning one of my rescues that I have had for 10 years. Over many years I have checked out many training books from the library, watched different shows, DVDS, bought training books, taken lessons and this book is the best by far! Kindness, patience and perseverance works.
I don't like how people pay to get their dogs trained. When you are training your dog you are building a relationship and communicating.
I find it so hard to train my new puppy and he s my first one.

It's okay to pay if their teaching you how to train them that's what I've been looking for I want to learn but I assume you're taking about those where you drop them off at a school. That's okay for service dogs or guard/farm dogs but regular stuff yeaa it's agree with you it's bonding, building respect and loyalty imo

Did you teach your puppy this trick? If so, how. My husky puppy goes to the hand that I have a treat in and does not give a danm about giving me her paw :(

Actually yeah I did, I even taught him how to lay down and and it was easy, took me like 15 minutes. But with mine it was easy because he just loves getting all kinds of food of course only what's acceptable for him so he is ready to do impossible to get the treat :) and I used this video to teach him. Just get something that your dog really likes and do exactly as she tells you in the video and of course be patient :) Good luck.
Beleth ,i have a German Shepherd and hes soooo smart, he taught himself "paw" and how to open and close doors, its insane

It took my dog 1 hour until he put his hand on mine lmao. Well he is a stubborn breed and quite hard to train. Though now when my dog is far away and I shout "give paw" he runs up to me and puts his hand on mine lol

Taught my dog this in 15 minutes ! At first he just slobbered over my hand and bum-shuffled instead of lifting his paw but I found changing the height/distance helped and soon enough he was doing it! Helpful video 👍

This worked almost instantly. He wasn’t sure at first what I was asking for. Once that paw came up a few times and he got rewarded, it became like instinct from then on to raise his paw. Thank you, good job

Its all good until your dog bites your hand like mine did!
Unfortunately all these videos are the same as they show very well behaved dogs who can already do the trick/task. It would be good if they showed what its really like with an untrained dog.
If your dog is biting you, then you first need to address that problem before trying to learn tricks such as paw. Untrained dogs need basic training first before you start on "fun" tricks. ;)
You should teach it to sit first
my dog knows how to sit, lay down, stay, etc. I tried to teach him this and he keeps licking my hand and biting it ..
If a dog bites your hand, keep trying to get him to give you his paw. If he bites you again, keep doing it. Except every time he bites you, give him a boop on the nose, and then when he finally starts to not bite you, give him a treat. Then, you can start training him to give you his paw.
This worked so well my dog has never been to shake before but holding the treats tightly and waiting for the dog to use their paw to try to get the treat worked amazingly!!!!! Thanks so much!
Okay, this definitely worked! My puppy is now 3 months and she’s a really fast learner and I got her to sit however, the paw was a really hard one to get her to do but watching this video after a good 20-30 min she was able to give me her paw!!!! I’m really happy lol

This video is great! Taught my pit bull to give paw the way she explains it, took about 1 full month for her to fully understand but just about the first week she started to realize the trick. Also for it to work truly like mine did, you must give a lot of time for the dog. This can't work just trying 5 minutes then give up, you must spend at least 15-20mins a day for it to work by the end of month.

I have a 4 year old Silky/Yorkie mix who I couldn't teach 'give me your paw' to all these years. I had tried to train her like I previously trained my Golden which was to lightly grab his paw shake it and say paw. She never took to that method though. She would pull back her paw away and look at me confused. The method of holding the treats in my hand in front of her resulting in her using her own paw to paw at my hand - worked like a charm!!! She learned the trick within an hour!!! I'm so glad I came across this video!!! Thank you :)

you have to hide the treat, close your hand but make sure he can smell it, then put the the treat under his chin so he can’t get it. make sure he sniffs it and follows it. then at some point the dog will try to get the treat with their paw, when they do, give them the treat. it takes patience. I hope this helped. This was the first trick i’ve ever taught my dog, and it was fun.

you have to be firm. my dog used to do that when i first started training. gently push him away and let him know that by jumping and biting, he's not gonna get the treat.

She a genius ! I tried her technique with my puppy and it worked . Follow her technique to a tee. At first it didn’t work on my puppy then I remember that she said to say good to your dog even at the tiniest of progress .
