I've seen some videos featuring cutscenes of Honkai's story before on youtube but I didn't have context so it barely left an impression on me except for how good it was animated. After watching the last 5 minutes of this video and having context, I see now why Honkai players are disappointed with Genshin's story. That cutscene alone was better than all of the cutscenes in Genshin. It is lengthy, the animation is great, the action scenes look awesome and it expresses dread and despair pretty well. Not to mention that moment when Kiana redirected all those shots, the silence at that moment only to be contrasted by the louder music after it was sent back to the mechs gave me goosebumps. I look forward to bwaap playing more of Honkai's story.
honkai and genshin cut scenes have take a very different directions. Genshin has two types of cut scenes, one is full 3D and you can tell it is, and the other is full 2D. Honkai has the combination of 3D animation and 2D style editing, wich gives it it's more cartoony feeling. The rest are ilustrations with a few movements. And now, you have to take in consideration that this is the first animation honkai had, and it was a year old allready ( i think. I believe HoV came our around that time) In the same time period genshin has had mucho more cutscenes. I love the Honkai cutscenes and i would like to see one of it's style in genshin but we need to accept they are going for a different vibe
I think also the delivery of 80% of Genshin storyline is through exposisiton, character dialogues, and fetch quest that the final cutscene, although a fucking great thing, and you're hype about it, it falls short because of the duration and interruption from our involvement. Like in the Liyue's Osial Fight, it could've been a 100% cutscene from beginning till end and the gameplay could've happened before, like us fighting the fatuis before jumping on the jade chamber. However it's spilt. The beginning starts off with us leaving the golden house and seeing the Jade chamber float above our heads, and then it cuts off to character dialouge, before jumping back into the cutscene of Ningguang building the jade chamber, and cutting off with a gameplay of us fending off the fatui, before cutting back to a cutscene where ningguang's platform is decimated and the jade chamber is sacrificed. It could've been on the extent of this cutscene, considering it's the true 'start' of the story. Where there was no gameplay and only a full cutscene of the adepti utilizing the guizhong ballista and the traveler alongside keqing, xiao, ganyu, and the milleliths fighting the fatuis. Especially when Traveler gets the silent protagonist treatment 99% of the time. Most when the cutscene rolls around we're hoping for our traveler to say something that we didn't control/choose for them but out of all the cutscenes so far their voicelines are limited to a short one liner, or grunting/gasping sounds because they were hurt. They rarely ever responds to what the opposing character say about them. I mean that is why when traveler challenged SIgnora to fight it's a shock factor. They finally said something, out of their own volition. It's not something that we chose for them. But then again currently Genshin is only 3 out of 7 possibly 8/9 regions if you count Khanri'ah and Celestia and has a 10 (extended to 12) development plan. It's supposed to be taken slow and not to be rushed. And unlike Honkai where the characters play their own part, in Genshin we play as the traveler and it's reflected as such. Which is why most of the time we are more directly involved, and is supposed to get involved even when the final outcome is the same.
People don't really understand the difference in production behind each game though. These shorts are done by the Mihoyo Animation department and has a lot of outsourcing. They take months to work on as well. So of course they are going to show out...because they are so rare. Genshin has consist in game cutscenes and every major update has high octane (they are necessarily pre-rendered) cutscenes that tend have superior composition and effects normally attributed to Genshin. Basically its a trade off. Its illogical to Honkai's quality when you Genshin's living breathing world and the consistency it provides.
Ah yes, typical 'Honkai is better than Genshin' elitist. Comparing a well made cutscene which take a lot of time to make and only appears once every few chapters to regular cutscene which is definitely easier to make

Captain when the first time they play as Fu Hua: "I get to play as Fu Hua lets gooo! Oh my god, her thing is so complicated." I can relate. Fu Hua is the one who instilled me to read skill descriptions and the character checks out.
Well to be fair, we don't really care abt Wendy at that point in time, we weren't too invested with her enough to really care It be a diff case if we had her for multiple story moments and that she had memorable ones too
Bwaap you don't have to worry about leveling up other characters, most of the chapters onward will force you to use trial characters. You may build the characters for something outside of the main story chapters.

She also survived Hua's edge of Taixuan, barely survived Quasi black hole although that was thanks to Otto, got beaten but still survived Shamash combo swings, got beaten by Oath of Judah zeroth power but still managed to revive herself. Sirin at her peak was apocalyptic.

As a Honkai veteran and long time Mihoyo fan, I can whole heartedly agree that the first few chapters of Honkai are awful. It doesn’t start getting good until chapter 7. I also highly recommend reading the manga and playing Chronicles to fully understand the story since the game leaves out A LOT of details. Also bc Second Eruption is probably the best piece of literature Mihoyo has ever written.
Fun fact: there's an expedition where you can farm valkyrie fragments; and when you get enough fragments for a certain valkyrie; hence you can farm for Fu hua, Bronya and the other starter 2 valkyries to make ascend them at SSS and other valkyries as such

Literally rewatched the old Honkai Videos pretty recently, seeing this in my sub feed gave me the biggest smile. Haven't gotten too far in the story myself but this is definitely a joy to watch to where I got up to.
I like how they often balance the depression of main story with light-hearted stories of events. Though some events were also still depressing like SA event
It's a bit difficult to recognize the patterns, but I think that at least the chibi top down shooters are lighthearted events? Everything else is just...depression. Honkai Kingdoms, Sanka Saga, Haxxor Bunny, even the Pokémon parody event ended with Seele forcefully ejecting us and leaving her behind, and I'm fairly sure that the Captain was crying in that moment, just like us.

Revisiting chapter 1 feels so refreshing, I remember quitting because I couldn’t get HoV (which was op as fuck at the time) and my First S-rank was Vermillion Knight. Now I’m a Captain, Doctor, Commandant and Traveller in Gacha hell.

How do you get it? Im relatively new to HI3 and the game navigations are so confusing and overwhelming on what to do and all. Ive done a few stuff to the point that i can easily earn 120 duty daily from chronicles and valkyrie/gear growth and all

Also friendly advice the blue tickets are for characters and the pink one is for weapons and stigmatas. It's best to get those than the crystals, also find a sensei it's under the friends tab bottom left.

The Traveler also said they "jumped from one world to the next". Could their purpose be finding a new home for humankind? There's also the fact that Teyvat, the world Genshin takes place in, literally means ark in Hebrew (which is a language used in elements scattered around in the game, for instance in the names of the Hypostasis cubes). It's all too coincidental to not be connected.
I love the reaction to the ‘first’ animation. There’s only better animations to come as you progress. It really shows the Honkai teams growth, and makes me feel confident with the growth of the Genshin dev team too.

@@liben5052 we're all in it for the feels. The plot may feel too complicated at times, but mihoyo never fails to deliver the feels, even without freakin context, that's how good the storytelling is. Like chapter 11, void drifter amazing grace. Lol, I had the chills watching it. Thunders over nagazora was one of the first honkai vids I watched, and I came in without even knowing the story at all.

honkai's story is wonderful BUT the downfall of the earlier chapters is that they don't include a lot of vital exposition and plot points from before the beginning of the game- i urge you to look up the recommended reading order and read at least the first two bits of the manga (escape from nagazora and st freya high) to have a much easier time lol.

Bwaap you don't have to worry about leveling up other characters, most of the chapters onward will force you to use trial characters. You may build the characters for something outside of the main story chapters.

As a Honkai veteran and long time Mihoyo fan, I can whole heartedly agree that the first few chapters of Honkai are awful. It doesn’t start getting good until chapter 7.
I also highly recommend reading the manga and playing Chronicles to fully understand the story since the game leaves out A LOT of details. Also bc Second Eruption is probably the best piece of literature Mihoyo has ever written.
Fun fact: there's an expedition where you can farm valkyrie fragments; and when you get enough fragments for a certain valkyrie; hence you can farm for Fu hua, Bronya and the other starter 2 valkyries to make ascend them at SSS and other valkyries as such

Everything else is just...depression. Honkai Kingdoms, Sanka Saga, Haxxor Bunny, even the Pokémon parody event ended with Seele forcefully ejecting us and leaving her behind, and I'm fairly sure that the Captain was crying in that moment, just like us.

How do you get it? Im relatively new to HI3 and the game navigations are so confusing and overwhelming on what to do and all. Ive done a few stuff to the point that i can easily earn 120 duty daily from chronicles and valkyrie/gear growth and all

Also friendly advice the blue tickets are for characters and the pink one is for weapons and stigmatas. Since Honkai Rarity system is very different, all have a Base rank but all can go SSS

- Default 3 starter char, farmable but not worth farming
A rank Char
- Generally most chars, farmable
- Early released A ranks mostly not as useful, only few unique ones that gives strong team support, some early ones can provide you some edge as you go along but will be replaced after
- Stronger dps A ranks are generally all the later releases, some early game still hold their own like Fu Hua(Night Squire)
- As for mid game onwards, not so clear anymore, don't play anymore so not up to date
S rank Char
- Generally the cream of the crop, all are strong in their own respective zones, but the more outdated ones are like
> HoV (Herrscher of Void)
> HoR (Herrscher of Reason)
The bare minimum within meta at this time is HoT(Herrscher of Thunder)
You can roughly gauge their viability based on how much freebie they giving, the latest being HoT being given, so it's more or less the bare minimum, but HoV and HoR still good to run mid game
In terms of meta, generally the latest release is basically the newest meta, older S ranks still got their meta in terms of Memorial Arena(Boss Battle Mode)
Some reigning better in Physical / Elemental
A / S rank (Awakening) - As nice it sounds, it's just basically a new char, but sharing the same char slot, generally cux they tied together by story relation
Gameplay wise, it's so ppl cannot stack these char together in a team

SP - Special category that require more special way to obtain and farm fragment
Amongst all of these sub rank categories, they still follow the rules of base ranks from the weakest to "strongest", B, A, S
And all of them goes from
B - A - S- SS - SSS
And they have sub rank up with fragments for sub tier rank, such as S-1 to S-2, this is due to the significant number of fragments needed to go to the next tier, so they make it subtiers to gain some stat boost so the fragments won't feel so stagnant while you getting morr
Hope it clears it up more or less, as for meta, you have to search them up yourself, the more obsolete chars, some are still useful for you early game till you farm enuf crystals to gacha more meta char, as for gacha, best if you hard save till you can more or less guarantee the latest char and build around them, even better if could get their accompanied set of weapon and stigmas

@@Toyaena The tree yes. I've also saw another video on YT similar with it. It was a recent interview with Mihoyo when someone ask about the connection between the 2 games. They stated that Genshin Impact is a continuation of Honkai Impact 3.

In volume 8 of the Honkai manga Second Key, Project Ark was represented as two twin stars. Sound familiar? The Traveler also said they "jumped from one world to the next". Could their purpose be finding a new home for humankind?
There's also the fact that Teyvat, the world Genshin takes place in, literally means ark in Hebrew (which is a language used in elements scattered around in the game, for instance in the names of the Hypostasis cubes).
It's all too coincidental to not be connected.

There’s only better animations to come as you progress. It really shows the Honkai teams growth, and makes me feel confident with the growth of the Genshin dev team too.

story moves like 120 mph compared to genshin. part of my brain goes "whoa these concepts" then the other is like "this makes no fucking sense tho", but damn their designs are stellar as always

@@liben5052 we're all in it for the feels. The plot may feel too complicated at times, but mihoyo never fails to deliver the feels, even without freakin context, that's how good the storytelling is.
Like chapter 11, void drifter amazing grace. Lol, I had the chills watching it. Thunders over nagazora was one of the first honkai vids I watched, and I came in without even knowing the story at all.

honkai's story is wonderful BUT the downfall of the earlier chapters is that they don't include a lot of vital exposition and plot points from before the beginning of the game- i urge you to look up the recommended reading order and read at least the first two bits of the manga (escape from nagazora and st freya high) to have a much easier time lol.
