- Dr. M was originally the brains of Sly's father's gang. In Sly Cooper 3 Honor Among Thieves, Dr. M explained that Conner Cooper was never such a good friend. Whatever happened between the two in the past, it's still a mystery.
Sly does remember a few things about his father. One event he remembers is the day when the map to the Cooper Vault was being hidden in a museum in Italy, this was when Sly Cooper was three years old.
According to Sly Cooper Issue 2, Conner Cooper was one of a kind and a good man. Which sides of the story are we supposed to believe? Was Sly's father a good man or a bad friend?

What I loved about sly is that even though he remembers his father proudly he doesn't say his father was perfect. He acknowledges that maybe his father didn't his team fairly but sly doesn't think less of his friends. Sly need Bentley and Murray and his life because they are a family not a team

And I bet Dr M didn't know that Connor was about to have a wife and son later on and believed he abandoned him and his team but really didn't.
I Feel like what happen to Dr. M is what happen to Penelope. I'm pretty sure he got more greedy and crooked as the time went on when he was with the cooper gang, eventually he just started feeling left out and felt like he could do a hell a lot more. Maybe certain events happen with the Conner that Dr. M took out of context, or overreacted or whatever.
It's like those cliche's "If you were a Real friend, you'd stand by my side!" or whatever when Dr. M started suggesting some extreme stuff that goes against the cooper code. Conner sure as hell ain't going to go with his plans and always suggested the alternative and for sure his grudge against Conner and eventually the Cooper Gang grows.
I know this is off topic but I'm sad to inform that the voice actor of Dr. M, Rick May (also voice actor for Soldier in Team Fortress 2), has died due to the Corona virus. Rest in peace Rick May

What would be cool is a prequel to the Sly Cooper Videogame Series with Conner Cooper Dr M and McSweeney as the main characters and who should be in Carmelita's role? Sly's Mother?
I'd love a prequel!!!!! If only the series was that popular to get one. Carmelita's role I'd imagine a new character, as in non Carmelita related.
Maybe it could be an entirely different police officer? Like a predecessor to Carmelita? Perhaps the police chief we saw in Sly 2 could have been an officer himself before he got to the rank of chief?
Woah, not sure how relevant this is, but I'm actually playing sly 2 right now and in the cutscene where Bentley breaks sly out of jail and they talk to eachother for the first time, bentley says something very interesting to sly.
"You know the old saying, "if you can't count on a friend to break you out of jail, then what kind of a friend are they?"
Could this possibly be a seed, a hint, foreshadowing, maybe just a coincidence? The Connor leaving Dr. M in prison theory seems to be all the more likely with this extremely subtle detail
If Sucker Punch had already thought of Dr. M while working on Sly 2, I'd say it was subtle hint... Oh no, was the answer hidden this whole time? It's interesting. Will keep this in mind ;)

@@NTheHedgehogFunny, the Sucker Punch company didn’t even mention who’s Murray and Bentley’s parents were when they first met Sly back at the orphanage in the past 20 years before he became a leader of the new Cooper Gang after his parents were killed by the Fiendish Five.
I think it's less that they were divorced because he was focused on thieving but vice versa that when sly was born he started focusing on his family more than the gang hence why Dr M felt betrayed. This explains another reason why Dr M would want Sly dead because he feels that Connors child and family got in the way. I just don't see a divorce being thesiable here there's nothing for it.
If that were true, how does McSweeny fit into this?
Maybe Conner was a good friend, what if during a certain mission he forgotten about Dr. M causing him to get caught while both Conner and Mcsweeney get away without noticing him, perhaps it was a serious situation he was in and though that Conner will come and recuse him. But Conner would already be gone by the time Dr. M was caught
After the incident, Conner tried to apologize to Dr. M, but Dr. M will never forgive Conner for that moment and walked off from him before Conner would say that he's so sorry and would never do it again causing their friendship to fall apart

I just wanted to say thanks for making these Sly videos! I feel like nobody talks about these games anymore, and as a die-hard fan of the series, I really appreciate you still talking about them and keeping the fans up to date on Sly news.

I always wonder what was the story behind sly father & Doctor M
How did Dr M find the Island? The same way Mc Sweeny knew. They very likely joined Connor on his trip to the Island to store the treasure. The betrayal here may be Connor unlike Sly didn't alow these two inside the vault hence Dr Ms obsession with getting inside.
Seems plausible.
I can pretty much see where Dr.M was coming from. But what did he mean when he said "Funny... Your father was never such a good friend?" Did Connor not acknowledge Dr. M's skills and brilliance as a valuable member to his gang. Did Connor pay him less? Did Connor and Dr.M have a major disagreement resulting in a argument causing Dr.M to get fed up and quit Connors gang? Connor must've left Dr.M to get arrested during a heist.
What ever the reason was it resulted in Dr. M growing to hate Connor and eventually despise Cooper's in general. He felt more like a sidekick rather than a valuable asset to Connors gang.

Ima say and go out on a limb that Conner felt that because Dr. M is the brains of the operation he figured Dr. M would get out of sticky situation with ease, but failed to realize that Dr.M may be the brains, but he wasn't the bronze, the muscle and he sure wasnt a talented theif with generations worth of experience. So i say with that in mind Dr.M grew tired of being left behind in both heists, as well as his friendship and only used for his genius moments that helped Conner during their heists. So eventually everything one day caught up to Dr.M and he finally snapped and thought that it was his plans and his gadgets that helped Conner get what he wanted, and Conner never shared the fortune with him, and even never took the time to truly be an amazing friend towards Dr.M like he was to McSweeney. For McSweeney to tell Sly that Conner was a great friend shows that Conner probably liked McSweeney more then Dr.M. If this isn't the case then ima also say that Conner was a good friend, and was sharing his fortune with his gang, but Dr.M wanted more then what he got. Conner was also aware of Dr.M's behavior as well as his antics, so Conner felt that Dr.M wasn't being as good as a friend as he was at being the brains of the operation. Conner then focused on his friendship with McSweeney, but didnt realized him doing that would upset Dr.M even further. However these are my little theories on how Dr.M came to be.

3:08 - This is actually pretty hard to go for, Dr. M could perhaps be telling the truth but then again what if his motive is to just dishearten Sly or his friends? McSweeney on the other hand despite that he himself is a good man and claims that Sly's old man is the same, could have actually lied just to ensure that Sly has a good view on him and doesn't get dishearten himself. A good example of this scenario would be Batman: The Telltale series where Bruce Wayne found out that his old man was working alongside Mayor Hill and Falcone in dealing with their enemies to get what they want.
3:27 - Maybe he was a good man to begin with but betraying his friend was his own undoing.
4:27 - It could actually be the same case with Batman: The Telltale Series where Thomas Wayne never showed signs of foul play so how could Bruce have known? Take that as an example where Bruce is Sly and Thomas is Conner.
4:49 - Or he could just have wanted his death for amusement. If I have to compare Dr. M with someone from Batman: The Telltale Series then I'd go with either Oswald Cobblepot or Lady Arkham because they both lost their family to the alliance between Falcone, Hill and Thomas and since Bruce benefited from this he was their target.

i just thought something... in sly 4 thief's in time, in the last area, you get a genie costume right? ( i don't know if bentley says it in the english version too, i play it in german) bentley said: "this costume once belong to a real genie and only people with a COOPER FOCUS can dominate the time lag" so... does that mean the genie was a cooper too...? maybe salim or henriette had a sibling...

In the English version Bentley explained: '' In any event, someone with the Cooper focus could pull it off''. The sceptre could've influenced Mathew de La Coopeur's slow motion technique. Funny thing is, the costume fit Sly perfectly, sure It's thinking too much, but perhaps Sly was truly the one who could pull it off aka a Cooper. The thief costume was considered old rags according to the salesman until Sly wore it hmm... Interesting.

I think one important fact that is overlooked would be how did the fiendish five know where the current cooper family lived so they could've been double crossed by an old friend this would explain how they managed to get the jump on the Cooper family and their location. However Clockwerk has been tracking the Cooper clan for centuries so this could potentially explain that. Or the fact that Sly's dad had enough time to hide Sly and wait for the Fiendish Five as after they killed him they would stop looking for any other Coopers including Sly as they may not have known about him I can't really remember as I haven't played the games in about 6 or 7 years. This leads to my next point what did they have to gain from eliminating the Cooper gang my simple analysis tells me that the Coopers have been beating criminals for years so by taking them out of the equation no one stands in their way they would become the very top of the master criminals. I would also like to add when you come from a long line of thief's with master techniques to get away with centuries of experience then all it would take would be one bad egg with the intentions to rob innocent people or simply not be brave enough to save their friend hence Dr. M I believe hating at least Sly's father. Note I haven't watched this theory yet so don't kill me just correct me but I believe that one heist went bad where they got in to a situation where Sly's father had a choice maybe to save his friend or friends and he picked one of the two or maybe it was a choice between just one and he didn't save them believing that his friend was dead/out of the picture and the other was in prison he retired the vault was closed he added his pages to the thievius raccoonus for his next of kin Sly while Dr. M or the Fiendish five or both plotted revenge against the cooper clan. Sorry for the essay just my thoughts that I have been bouncing around in the last ten minutes or so.
That's good question, how did the Fiendish Five know about the Coopers whereabouts? I'd go ahead and say Clockwerk the leader. Perhaps Dr.M could've revealed the location of the book. Sure Clockwerk could've blasted the house, but didn't want to risk the book getting turned to ash. By the time they got the book, the parents were dead. Clockwerk explained that he kept Sly alive (he knew about Conner had a kid) just to try and prove that Coopers were nothing without the book. And you're pretty close to what I explained in the video, heist going bad let's say. And thanks for sharing!
Well I suppose I should have seen Clockwerk keeping Sly alive cocky twat fits in character very well. Also good theory I just re watched the ending of Sly 4 and saw tons of people speculating the ending not sure if you've done a theory on it but I reckon with a small amount of research you could come up with a solid conclusion like I have also this is a channel I'm subscribing too.

we desperatly need a real sly 4 or sly 5. retcon thieves in time and make a true 4 where we explore more about connor's past and the reason dr m became who he is. its been 10 years thought and i highly doubt we will ever get a true sequel that will satisfy our answers.

U should talk about the movie more often. You have good ideas. I like your idea about clockwerk and Dr M. except for at one point of the movie sly should meet MCSweeney and he could tell sly about his father's gang and what made Dr M. so mad. He could say that Dr M. was obsessed with finding the vault and he could give sly the map to the Cooper Vault as well which could hint at a sequel.
I don't know should I? Don't want to sound like that over obsessed fan. Out of everything, the team should take the time and focus on our main characters and main villain. For McSweeney, considering it's 90 mins movie, there's already so many characters, plus they would also have to introduce him. It does sound like a good idea, but I think the ending could use a more touching scene.
VTNVIVI Yeah I don't know? Ive been thinking maybe we should cut the Feindesh five to make more room for a better story. I really want the movie to explore everything we don't know about Sly's parents as well as his relationship with McSweeney and doctor M. If doctor M is included then I feel McSweeney should be as well. I think Mugshot is a good villain and so it was also hurt the film to see them cut. I don't know I hope the directors to find a balance in between.
Travis Judging by what I've read on Twitter a long time ago, Muggshot might appear. If so, I'm expecting the Fiendish Five. Also, Mountains of China are mentioned in the description of the film. The movie should primarily focus on our trio out of all things.

I just realized that I think in my own opinion, I think that the sly movie probably take place after sly 2 or more because before the events of sly 2, Bentley didn't learn how to drive a van or aka a stickshift and when we see that in the movie trailer, Bentley was driving along with sly, not only that but another reason is how did sly learn some of his Ancestors moves as he was on his way to the donut shop even though before sly 1, he didn't learn those moves until he reads the stolen pages, I'm just saying that in my own opinion and just to point out a few things, and also there are some point outs to tell it's before sly 2, just wanted to say that out of my chest... :v
You have a very good point there! Thing is, the trailer is just a concept, so that right there I wouldn't analyse it too much. And two, I believe the movie will have some elements from Sly 2 like Bentley driving. In the movie universe, perhaps his friends had taught him before.
VTNVIVI It's interesting that they showed us this concept footage for a reason, we'll figure it out soon, of course they'll tweak a few things on the story and "character design", after all, it is just a concept, A way we can figure out the movies timeline is that if and IF they release a canon trailer for the movie, then we might have some sort of chance to see Bentley's character design, if Bentley still has the wheelchair or not, then we can determine the actual time line, they'll probably not change the entire concept of what they showed us in the teaser trailer but we just have to wait and see, it is most likely that Bentley didn't broke his legs in the teaser trailer because Bentley was able to drive without breaking a sweat with probably his legs, and of course they didn't lose the getaway van back in Canada or basically, in sly 2, many questions on the movie is still yet to be descovered, perhaps we'll find out once they showed us a new trailer of some sort...
It could be some sort of timeline that the game version didn't showed us, like the movie happens in between sly 1, 2, or 3 for example, and if it's correct then it could show us connections on clockwork, or any other villain for that matter...

I think for sly 5 if they ever give the green light for it they should focus on the night of the attack and on how doctor m hate Conor so much let us play as them let's find out who sly mom is and let us play as the rest of the ancestors because time travel is definitely not going to be just for sly 4 witch for some reason won't let anyone play the cutscenes dam you disc benefits why would they end that
There's definitely more time travel in Sly 5, but how much? Will the team mainly stick to that only or go back to usual routes? As for gameplay, young Sly let's say, I don't see what they could add, he hid in the closet... unless it's the cookie heist. A cinematic for the night of the attack, maybe that's one thing they could consider, I hope it's in the movie. As for Dr. M, he's dead, perhaps Clockwerk could be the one to explain it to Sly, I'm sure he's seen a lot.

You keep asking why Nayla wanted to be immortal... well... she didn't want to die? I mean I know it might be to simple but... I'm sure there are thousands of people that would jump right into the mechanical owl just to escape death and nothing more to it... n matter the cost.
But...Until what point? What will they achieve by living 100s of years? At some point, they will feel lonely.
Not everyone cares about having company, or other people. Like Voldemort, he wanted to be immortal just because he feared death. And other people were just tools for him. Also yeah maybe they will feel lonely after a while, but hey, they don't worry about it in the moment, in the moment the worry about becoming immortal thinking they can deal with everthing that comes with it. This is an answer for why she wants not why she didn't quit after years because... years never passed yet. I mean many people want something just because and not realising or carig for what it can bring. She was unlikable already, as a person I don't think she had anyone worth crying after in her eyes.

Dr.M specialty was also "Mandrill" he got stuck in a cave, kinda ironic? or convenient? tricking the cops and sly not focus on his next move would be ideal while he is researching every singel Cooper to find the one that will do the most impact on Conner Cooper. then Dr.M could make a time machine travling to egypt to erase Slys egyption ansater memories of even creating the book. only to find sly there, and maybe bently and murry would manage to find sly but not have enough power to get back so they have to orchestrate a plan to steal Dr.m's time machine parts idk.
I also think that sly is Slytunkhamen Cooper I. and he will be returning with carmalita to egypt as the ultimate ending after defiting dr.M once more. and getting to staffs from the destroyed Cooper vault. giving one to each son. one of them will continue the legacy one will choose the dark side being the sly on the consept art. Slytunkhamen | being the second but fitst cooper to have 2 staffs. that last part might sound a lot farfetched but I at least think that sly will be giving or losing his staff in Egypt.
If Sly is his own ancestor, it'd be a bootstrap paradox, who is Slytunkhamen in the first place? If he weren't to fulfill his destiny, he'd erase his family line. If they want to end the series that way, Sly being his own ancestor, it'd be pretty big. If they bring back Dr.M, I wouldn't be surprised honestly, he could be the one who rebuilds Clockwerk. If M does travel to the past, he'd have to be careful, anything he does could affect him.
I know this a old video but what if Conner sense that Mr.M has a sinner thoughts about taking over the world and Conner doesn't want to be part of that , so he left him behind

Here is a simple answer:
Connor was not friends with Dr Moriarty and WalrusGuy, they were merely his teammates, nothing more. After their glory days of pulling off successful heists, Sly's dad gradually stopped speaking to his old gang. And he definitely did NOT share his loot with them.
This is nothing compared to Jak & Daxter games. There is not a single mother in the stories. Fathers aplenty, daughters up the wazoo, but no mothers. A few are mentioned, but none are named. No mothers. Ever.

If Conner kept the book in his wife's house if they were divorced it would be EXTREMELY SELFISH AND STUPID. Doing that will instantly put his ex wife in danger but also Sly when someone like Clockwer finds out that it's in her house.

The movie will have its own universe, so I'd say its canon in that universe.
Biggest plot of all time , sly`s mother was the wife of Dr.M , when Connor fell in love with her Dr.M gained an immense-full hate on him and wished death to him , but they were to close so he knew he couldnt kill him personally so he joined the only one that hated the cooper family as him CLOCKWERCK and they went to kill connor . That explains why they let sly alive , cuz Dr.M felt some kind of empathy since he was his wife in a child.

am I the only one who feels as though every villian except the main antagonist of each game had their backstory summarized too much, I mean alot of their backstories don't sound like proper reasons to become evil, and I'm pretty sure there's more of a reason to them becoming evil
