I think they’re good compared to other barbie products, but when you compare them to the competition like rainbow high that has 3x more quality for the same price they’re very inferior. And one of the factors that made this line a miss for me are the pixelated faces. No way they can compete with Mga looking like that. Exactly. If they were a competitor with OMG LOL, it would be more about preferences. OMG has their downs and ups too. They dolls aren't everyone's taste but Rainbow high? I don't want to buy anything from Mattel after Rainbow High. MGA does a great dolls rn. Other companies make interesting dolls time to time. Barbie Extra? If I will buy them, I will buy them only on sales. I'm not ready to pay a full price for them. But I will probably prefer to get another doll by MGA
Rainbow High has gone down a lot in quality; they no longer offer the second outfit and the hair is so thin and terrible now. I’m selling off a lot of my Rainbow high as I won’t be collecting them anymore. I like 18 inch dolls a lot more now.
Considering they're both in the same price range I'd say you get a much higher quality product with the LOL OMG's but it seems like Mattel is offering more a more 'modest' look with a familiar brand and possibly aiming for a younger demographic? Guessing by the addition of the pets.
Personally, i like and appreciate that there’s at least effort and quality put into them, feels like a step in the right direction, but being completely honest, I don’t like the fact that Mattel copied the concept of LOL OMG without developing its own unique brand, and still has the nerve to put pixelated dolls in a line that’s supposed to compete with MGA, whose playline quality is better than all collector Barbies released in the last years. These don’t even come with stands!! It’s like Mattel copied LOL but forgot to incorporate the most important factors that made LOL OMG successful: Edge and Quality. Like they’re to afraid to risk more cohesive and fashionable designs, these feel very “Made for Karens”. The pets also feel very very out of place, it’s like they’re trying to appeal to everybody but lack cohesion and sense. They should’ve used the pet budget to fix the pixelated face paint that no one likes, and add a STAND. But thats only my opinion.
Yeah OMG dolls, they have unique and specific concept and you can easily differentiate them from another OMG doll. While the first 3 Barbie Extras just have garish and over-the-top fashion so they can be just somehow called Extra.

What I don't understand is that nobody mentions that the OMG doll's don't really have bending legs. I've had 5 of them and I still have two but all of them had "bend and snap" legs that didn't bend or snap! I think OMG gets a pass on quality by a lot of reviewers and I don't understand why. Is it the hype? Plus the OMGs all have the same face???!!! What's up with that?

@@STARONTOP292 to each his own. I’ve kept my Rosie the Riverter OMG because I liked her. I donated the rest to the charity shop so someone who loves them can have them. It makes life more interesting when we as doll collectors like different things.
The shoes! I’m glad you pointed that out because it’s been bothering me since the promo pic came out. Barbie usually does one color shoes but it stands out and looks extra tacky when the doll is extra fashionable every where else.
Same I really don't like LOL/OMG doll face. Hence why I prefer hairdorables cuz their face are just sooooo much better. Their outfit and concept are really cute though.
Barbie should really bring back the fashion fever line from the 2000s and make it with recent fashion trends. I mean the quality and the attention to detail back when the first FF line came out was on point. If Mattel would bring back that quality and fashion forwardness, I think it would definitely sell.
It's embarrassing that Mattel fell behind when there was no competition. Now that MGA took over the fashion doll market, they only now decided to release dolls with articulation and actual fashion. I still would like to find these new Extra dolls for sure, but I think for the price you still get more for your buck with the LOL OMG because of the quality and they come with stands and 2nd fashions for the most part.
Takara has come out with a Licca doll that is clearly inspired by the OMG dolls as well. Seems to be the trendy thing to do! I love that Barbie finally has some good quality in a play line doll. I think I’ll actually pick up a few of these. Thanks for the review!
I'm also happy to see Barbie more detailed but as you said the O.M.G dolls have a more unique style, the Barbie's are just "extra" but not stylish... that's a shame, I would prefer something more "clear" because at the end they looks like more fashionable clowns to me, I can't relate the fashion clothes they wear. Barbie looks like she's going to a Music festival, but the other doll darker looks like she's going to the Gay Pride and at the same time to a Basketball Match... it's weeeird... if you wear a Rainbow jacket your clothes should have someting related to it to me, not sport... so wtf ? But the Extra doll I really hate is the pastel one, her "dress" is awful. If you wear pastel you're supposed to be cute not a "ghetto unicorn".... But I hope Mattel is going to improve the Extra dolls if they do more...
I appreciate the fact that Mattel has raised the quality a bit, but the pixelated faces convinced me not to buy EXTRA dolls, and then if they wanted to compete with OMG they had to replace the pets with a stand I’m agree with you, I prefer OMG too, because every doll have a unique, specific look, and this makes them more cool, and their quality is simply TOP I don’t intend to consider Mattel again until the ENTIRE playline returns to the quality of the past Today I bought a Barbie Color Reveal Mermaid, which will be my last Barbie because from now on i will only buy MGA dolls
In my opinion there is a bit of comparison BUT the omg dolls have WAY too much details to compete w Barbie extra. Mattel tried but it didn’t workout, too bad cuz Mattel all what it wants it’s just the money and MGA listens to the people and it gives what we want which AWESOME.

I completely agree with you all the way!!! I, like you, am very happy that Barbie (Mattel) is taking the hint from the fantastic-ness of the OMG dolls and making better Barbie's. The "EXTRA" dolls are a definite step in the right direction. The dolls are in and of them selves wonderful, with body articulation and the wonderful hair is cool styles and fantasy color's and I like the different body types! Great review from you as always. Please keep up the excellent work!
I feel that the inclusion of the pets and the accessories not being in surprise packaging are more unique to Mattel. I don't like how you cannot tell the quality of the hair or the face ups of the OMG dolls from the outside of the box and risk ending up with a doll with slightly wonky eyes, or choppily cut bangs. I also feel that the Hairdorables Hairmazing dolls copied OMG more directly, as those also have the boxes that turn into play sets/backdrops as well as the accessories packaged in blind boxes/bags. The Barbie Extra dolls, other than the packaging and inclusion on pets, do kind of feel like imitators though. OMG is the original and feels much edgier with the clothing and quality which makes them better in my opinion. But it's nice to see Barbie come out with quality dolls and fashions again. If the success of this line makes them end the era of molded on tops/painted on tights, and sewn together clothes with their dolls, I'll be happy.
Despite knowing that Rainbow High and OMG dolls are much higher quality, I can’t get behind them. I love the proportions of Barbie and how many different face molds there are. The OMG/RH faces just aren’t my taste, OMG in particular makes me a little uncomfortable bc their cartoony/childish faces contrast harshly with their mature body shape and weirdly detailed hands. RH dolls have a very vacant stare and their faces in profile are so flat it looks horrible imo. In terms of fashion, I think OMG has wonderful quality and really fun/unique clothing. RH is a lot less inspired and a lot of the dolls already feel like their style is too similar to each other. I also think having everything branded with RH and Sparkle is a little tacky. It’s true that Barbie is copying OMG but MGA’s lines also take HEAVY inspiration from specific brands and celebrities. I am happy though that Mattel is getting some competition to encourage them to branch out and up their quality.
I hope the Barbie Extra dolls do well, too and we see more funky fashions and articulation at a reasonable price. I haven't unboxed mine yet. Crossing my fingers that their hair is going to be ok.
i heard they arent gonna revive that due to contoversy and body image issues and theydont wanna accosiate witht the show anymore unless ur talking about the teen top model becasue thats amazing and i think they do reprouctions of those
i've been, recently, start to collect vintage Barbie dolls ( i manage to get the 1990's holyday barbie!!!) and omg!! the quality was off the charts!!! the hair, the fashion, the shoes!! why they can't back to that?? they can, since they re-releaze a few years ago the Totally Hair Barbie, the most saled Barbie ever!! they should analize why there is a boom nowadays for the vintage dolls and translate it to the new millenium.
i'm biased bc i've collected them all, but i ADORE omgs so much!! i like to think of them as 3d fashion illustrations, where they're super conceptual and unique. i've yet to find one i don't like tbh

I really like what they did with the Barbie Extra dolls. I think this is a step in the right direction if they continue with this kind of quality and make it better. But at the same time I know what I can get for the same price with the lol omg. So I like Barbie extra and I’m happy they made them but I feel they still have a long way to go. For me the Rainbow High Dolls are just the Best! I also love the Lol Omg Dolls & have bought many, Barbie Dolls have really lost their way recently sadly :-( now though I am so pleased to see & buy The Barbie Extra Dolls as they really are a breath of fresh air, the Wing Boots are super! the Jeans frill is so brilliant sorry BIAB to disagree , just the price £29.99 (uk) for the Extra Line is a tad pricey in my opinion. I love both - I really like Doll 4 & 5 for Barbie Extra - I did collect doll 3. Omg dolls sometimes the $34.99 US price is expensive to collect even $26.99 considering they charge $26.99 for Rainbow High but you get 2 looks I sometimes wonder why omg costs the same as Rainbow High. I also wish omg dolls weren’t blind since they can be quality issues. 👍👍👍

I love Extra's line and They are amazing with quality clothes! I hope Mattel makes another extra wave 2 new dolls! barbie extra definitely doesn't come close to OMG but they are still really nice and a step in the right direction and i will probably be purchasing one
loved the Bratz as a child, would love to collect them all again as an adult. But couldn't get into OMG. I hope they bring back Bratz, I especially loved their small dolls.
For Barbie a step in the right direction, but really they need to do their faces like their original dolls in quality, and stop copying others, come up with your own unique fashion there are enough styles and trends out there. Still won't collect these they just don't appeal to me. And I have an early Barbie collection. The omg dolls have grown on me just like the Bratz dolls did. Fixing and dressing the Bratz for a thrift store showed me their quality and charm. I am seriously wanting a OMG for my collection, we will see if it stays at one. Miss pink hair is so fun and edgy. And I love the Rainbow High ones as well. As for gifting I would not buy a newer Barbie and prefer to get a vintage Barbie because of quality and playability. I would prefer to buy a MGA doll as a gift.
I love omg dolls but some of their fashions could be too much for kids so i understand why parents would be concern about them. Good thing is there are so many options to choose. Love them 👍
Although Mattel is taking baby steps in the right direction MGA is still a better buy because of its better quality, the extra outfits, and useful accessories...stands versus pets. I will say that Mattel's customer service is AMAZING and MGA could take a page from Mattel in that aspect. Barbie extra is still subpar compared to rainbow high and OMG. I remember when I first heard of Barbie extra the first thing I thought was... "Wait extra? like extra omg the video?.....yeah i called it." If Barbie wants to give MGA a run then they need to make the styles from barbie's instagram available to purchase in real life. The clothes on @Barbiestyle on instagram are soooo cute. I am so frustrated with mattel..... they have the fashion......why dont they just use it? These extra dolls are not getting my money especially with rainbow high coming out with the cheerleaders and series 2. I think Barbie made these extra ugly dolls to make fun of OMG dolls. They feel like a spoof.

The dolls are in and of them selves wonderful, with body articulation and the wonderful hair is cool styles and fantasy color's and I like the different body types!

The fact that even rip off dolls don't have pixelated faces shows how mattel is so inferior against MGA!!
I feel that the inclusion of the pets and the accessories not being in surprise packaging are more unique to Mattel. I don't like how you cannot tell the quality of the hair or the face ups of the OMG dolls from the outside of the box and risk ending up with a doll with slightly wonky eyes, or choppily cut bangs. I also feel that the Hairdorables Hairmazing dolls copied OMG more directly, as those also have the boxes that turn into play sets/backdrops as well as the accessories packaged in blind boxes/bags. The Barbie Extra dolls, other than the packaging and inclusion on pets, do kind of feel like imitators though. OMG is the original and feels much edgier with the clothing and quality which makes them better in my opinion. But it's nice to see Barbie come out with quality dolls and fashions again. If the success of this line makes them end the era of molded on tops/painted on tights, and sewn together clothes with their dolls, I'll be happy.

Despite knowing that Rainbow High and OMG dolls are much higher quality, I can’t get behind them. I love the proportions of Barbie and how many different face molds there are. The OMG/RH faces just aren’t my taste, OMG in particular makes me a little uncomfortable bc their cartoony/childish faces contrast harshly with their mature body shape and weirdly detailed hands. RH dolls have a very vacant stare and their faces in profile are so flat it looks horrible imo. In terms of fashion, I think OMG has wonderful quality and really fun/unique clothing. RH is a lot less inspired and a lot of the dolls already feel like their style is too similar to each other. I also think having everything branded with RH and Sparkle is a little tacky. It’s true that Barbie is copying OMG but MGA’s lines also take HEAVY inspiration from specific brands and celebrities. I am happy though that Mattel is getting some competition to encourage them to branch out and up their quality.
I hope the Barbie Extra dolls do well, too and we see more funky fashions and articulation at a reasonable price. I haven't unboxed mine yet. Crossing my fingers that their hair is going to be ok.
My opinion is that Barbie (Matel) try be cool and "EXTRA" but never go to far so other dolls company came and go above and beyond .

I'm not a huge fan of barbie extra dolls and I do like the lol omg dolls a little bit better idk I've always felt mga did a better job in recent years

i heard they arent gonna revive that due to contoversy and body image issues and theydont wanna accosiate witht the show anymore unless ur talking about the teen top model becasue thats amazing and i think they do reprouctions of those
i've been, recently, start to collect vintage Barbie dolls ( i manage to get the 1990's holyday barbie!!!) and omg!! the quality was off the charts!!! the hair, the fashion, the shoes!! why they can't back to that?? they can, since they re-releaze a few years ago the Totally Hair Barbie, the most saled Barbie ever!! they should analize why there is a boom nowadays for the vintage dolls and translate it to the new millenium.

I liked what you did to the Barbie Extra #1 with her braids around her buns. It looks better that way in my humble opinion. 🙂 I intend to get the dolls, hopefully. Usually by the time I can get them there way out of my price range.
I really like what they did with the Barbie Extra dolls. I think this is a step in the right direction if they continue with this kind of quality and make it better. But at the same time I know what I can get for the same price with the lol omg. So I like Barbie extra and I’m happy they made them but I feel they still have a long way to go.

For me the Rainbow High Dolls are just the Best! I also love the Lol Omg Dolls & have bought many, Barbie Dolls have really lost their way recently sadly :-( now though I am so pleased to see & buy The Barbie Extra Dolls as they really are a breath of fresh air, the Wing Boots are super! the Jeans frill is so brilliant sorry BIAB to disagree , just the price £29.99 (uk) for the Extra Line is a tad pricey in my opinion. I love both - I really like Doll 4 & 5 for Barbie Extra - I did collect doll 3. Omg dolls sometimes the $34.99 US price is expensive to collect even $26.99 considering they charge $26.99 for Rainbow High but you get 2 looks I sometimes wonder why omg costs the same as Rainbow High. I also wish omg dolls weren’t blind since they can be quality issues. 👍👍👍

I still prefer the OMG dolls they are high quality. I feel that Mattel had their chance. I remember when even the basic Barbies were poseable and had nice hair.

I never knew they were originally shown to Mattel. Eh it’s their loss that they didn’t like the idea, they just can’t claim it back when it was never theirs. Plus ngl they probably would’ve failed with bratz because they would keep rebooting it or making the quality of the dolls go down.

For Barbie a step in the right direction, but really they need to do their faces like their original dolls in quality, and stop copying others, come up with your own unique fashion there are enough styles and trends out there. Still won't collect these they just don't appeal to me. And I have an early Barbie collection.
The omg dolls have grown on me just like the Bratz dolls did. Fixing and dressing the Bratz for a thrift store showed me their quality and charm. I am seriously wanting a OMG for my collection, we will see if it stays at one. Miss pink hair is so fun and edgy. And I love the Rainbow High ones as well.
As for gifting I would not buy a newer Barbie and prefer to get a vintage Barbie because of quality and playability. I would prefer to buy a MGA doll as a gift.
I love omg dolls but some of their fashions could be too much for kids so i understand why parents would be concern about them. Good thing is there are so many options to choose. Love them 👍

Although Mattel is taking baby steps in the right direction MGA is still a better buy because of its better quality, the extra outfits, and useful accessories...stands versus pets. I will say that Mattel's customer service is AMAZING and MGA could take a page from Mattel in that aspect. Barbie extra is still subpar compared to rainbow high and OMG. I remember when I first heard of Barbie extra the first thing I thought was... "Wait extra? like extra omg the video?.....yeah i called it." If Barbie wants to give MGA a run then they need to make the styles from barbie's instagram available to purchase in real life. The clothes on @Barbiestyle on instagram are soooo cute. I am so frustrated with mattel..... they have the fashion......why dont they just use it? These extra dolls are not getting my money especially with rainbow high coming out with the cheerleaders and series 2. I think Barbie made these extra ugly dolls to make fun of OMG dolls. They feel like a spoof.
