  • In this video I'm changing out the spark plugs after 15k miles and changing the oil at nearly 5k miles as a part of my 30k mile maintenance.

    Thanks for the update!
Looking forward to the video. I totally know what you mean about the gasket. I have done five or six of these in the past, including my Super Duty, but this is the first truck that I have owned that came with an OEM plastic transmission pan. That’s what got me thinking about the reason for the heat shields. As far as the bolts go, I just opened up my UPS package from PPE and there are no bolts included in my box. There are a couple of OEM bolts on the stock transmission pan that have studs on them for the purpose of mounting the heat shields back on. That B&M dipstick part number is 22200 - as far as I can tell, this dipstick kit has no hashmarks, so what you do is get your tranny fluid perfectly dead-on with the stock dipstick - and then install the new B&M dipstick, pull it a few times, and then score your own hashmarks into the new B&M dipstick at the perfect spot. Then you are good! 💯 - If you see below, I added a link with the transmission fill procedure while cold. It starts at the 38-39 minute mark!

The plugs you pulled out look perfect. Why replace them?

Great videos on your channel! I’m also getting ready to install my PPE transmission pan on my Raptor. I have done quite a bit of research on these. I went with the standard depth pan so it does not have any clearance issues with my skid plate. I am also going to install the B&M dipstick (pricey). When will you be installing yours and releasing the video? Looking forward to see if you end up needing to unbolt and lift the tranny mount - it looks fairly tight to the exhaust, but looks possible to do it without lifting the tranny. I think the F-150 with the 5.0 requires a slight tranny lift to get the room, but I have heard the Raptor might be pretty straight forward. Guess we will find out! Are you going to use the stock bolts? I was talking with a friend of mine who is the service manager at my Ford dealer the other day, and it sounds like the OEM aluminum “heat shield” MIGHT just be there to protect the PLASTIC OEM tranny pan. Are you going to re-install yours? KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!

Wow, I didn't even know about the dipstick. I was planning on doing the transmission service on the 17th and hopefully publishing the video by christmas. I will do some more research on the dipstick and see if it is something I want to wait and do. I still need to check and see if my foxwell scanner gives transmission temp for the F150 or if I should use forscan or dash to verify. I was planning on leaving the heat shields off, but would decide after I get int here, don't wanna bake the gasket either. I haven't opened the pan yet to check if it comes with bolts, I assumed it did...maybe a bad call.

      Hey brother-
Just wanted to let you know that I did my PPE tranny pan today. Definitely need to slightly lift the rear upper tranny mount about an inch (3 bolts.. 2 on the passenger side & 1 on the drivers side. You might want to remove the transfer case skid plate (4 13mm bolts) for extra clearance to reach the upper tranny mount bolts on the drivers side. I did not re-install the tin heat shields. The clearance is good everywhere around the perimeter. There are 6 stud bolts (for the heat shields) - I replaced them with the same OEM bolts so they all match. i would NOT tighten them to 18-22 ft/lbs as per the instructions - that is WAY too tight in my opinion. I used the Ford OEM torque spec at 10nm with a Snap-On digital torque wrench - perfect so far. No leaks! All good. I recommend pulling one of you stock pan bolts out and getting 6 new ones from Ford to replace the 6 stud bolts. My dealer did not have them in stock. If you want to get new bolts or stainless hex heads, The size on mine were M6-1.00, 25mm. Hopefully, this will help you out (and anyone that comes across this in the future). Good luck with the project. I will wait for your video. Merry Christmas!
