    This movie had it all. Diversity. Soundtrack. Heart. Skating. I find myself rewatching it every year. Val had such a hate-able face right before the final battle. It's not who you are, it's what you do. Great movie. Even better analysis by @Roll Minnesota. Thanks!

      Yeah, Val's facial expressions that he made throughout the movie killed me.
      Especially at the end of the film when someone was announcing the start of the race and he was looking at Brink 😂

    This movie was my 1st biggest influence to start blading. I even had those old Oxygen's you see in Brink! It was definitely nostalgic. I never noticed so many flaws. Though it was still a pretty good microscope into the world of inline for those who hadn't an idea. Still very cheesy sure, but I will always love it!

    Definitely the movie the hooked me into skating! The actor that played Val actually did a lot of his own stunts.

    Ahhh I can now say I've at least seen the important parts of the infamous film Brink. Never saw or even heard of this growing up, but I've heard it referenced so much the past few years.
    I could see how seeing this at a young age could inspire people to start skating tbf. Maybe we need a remake!?

    And sadly Jake Elliot the actual pro rollerblader(razors and medium) , got like zero screen time. He played BJ, a member of X-blade. And Cory Miller was also a stunt man. He rode for rollerblade back in the day.

    • @RR-bd4jp
      @RR-bd4jp 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I remember BJ Elliot he def should of got more screen time ha.

    Between “Destroy all girls” and the Fruitbooter bullshit I’m glad there’s at least some sort of wholesome memory of the sport that reached everyday folks.

    Man this movie and the mid 90's X games brought me to skating. I was freaking addicted to this movie I was 8 when this was released. I always wanted friends like this to skate with, but never did lol. Bro he made $200 a week thats equivalent to $320 bucks today. Shoot every two weeks that's almost $650 for a highschool kid with the free merch and products hes set.

    I loved the movie. Nothing wrong with getting paid if you still love what you're doing and it doesn't change things negatively. There is just that stigma of what's cool or not amongst friends growing up. It was more them feeling betrayed and maybe a little jealous than brink actually selling out.

    • @RR-bd4jp
      @RR-bd4jp 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Airborne is probably the better movie, I like Seth Green in it as well! It just seemed to be more mixed. Where Brink had all inline.

    • @Bavmorda
      @Bavmorda 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Airborne skating itself was more diverse, while Brink is more about "grinder blading".
      It represents better my teenage years of skating. Grinds were some new weird stunt, we skated everything: halfpipes, downhill, slalom, just city skating...

    9:20 You're right however I understand that his friends were angry with him, he did things outside of his principles, he the leader of the team who always spoke to his friends of the spirit of the pure skater with his analogy with the cakes etc... And he wasn't the only one who needed the money, I don't know if it was a way of speaking but Gabriella told him that _"we all need the money"_ and Andy admitted to his dad that he actually didn't join X-Bladz only to help him, but also for fame, this is what he said :
    *Brink :* _I didn't listen to you dad. I tried out for this sponsored team._
    *Dad :* _And I told you no._
    *Brink :* _We needed the money._
    *Dad :* _Not so bad, buddy, that we needed you to disobey us._
    *Brink :* *_I know. I guess it wasn't just for the money either. I wanted to be part of Team X-Bladz. I wanted to have my picture in every magazine. I wanted to be somebody. I don't know if you get that._*

    You can tell there were some real skaters in this movie from the oxygens and rb swindlers and salomons most likely these were actual peoples skates they were using. And the gap at 12:34 was really big, i noticed they cut off the film at the landing so I dont think he landed it

    I always thought if Brink’s friends really cared about him, they would understand (or try to) why he joined XBladz. His family was on the verge of losing their house. His friends are lucky they have never had to go thru that or know what that feels like, but it’s serious. I thought it was messed up how they treated him. I def wouldn’t want my friend to be homeless. I know joining that team went against their philosophy or whatever, but come on. It really seemed like Brink didn’t want to join XBladz and I feel like as soon as his family’s finances straightened out, he would’ve quit. He didn’t like Val and didn’t wanna be around him, etc. That’s just my opinion.

    • @verdiernoyama9681
      @verdiernoyama9681 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that's true however I don't know if it's a way of speaking but Gabriella told him that "we all need the money". And about Andy not wanting to stay with X-Bladz, this is true and false at the same time because it's true that we saw that he didn't want to stay with them but he told his father that in reality he didn't just do it for the money, here is the script :
      *Brink :* _I didn't listen to you dad. I tried out for this sponsored team._
      *Dad :* _And I told you no._
      *Brink :* _We needed the money._
      *Dad :* _Not so bad, buddy, that we needed you to disobey us._
      *Brink :* *_I know. I guess it wasn't just for the money either. I wanted to be part of Team X-Bladz. I wanted to have my picture in every magazine. I wanted to be somebody. I don't know if you get that._*
      I may be wrong but maybe that's also why at the end of the movie when the sponsor told him to be the new Captain of the team and that Val was just a cheater and got fired, Brink was amazed and say _"Wait, you want me to be the Captain of X-Bladz ?"_ before refusing the tempting offer.

      We have the same disbelief here in Minnesota when watching Mighty Ducks 2. They would have to skate about 120 miles in the intro when assembling the crew.

    My gf wanted to rewatch this recently. So it’s fresh in my mind. I think maybe I’m trying to add too much depth to a Disney movie. But I think he tried keeping it a secret, 1. Because he knew his parents would disapprove 2. His friends and him hate those guys. 3. He and his friends were gonna participate in the comp. 4. Teenagers are dumb and will absolutely put pure feelings over logic, even if it makes sense to do it. And lastly 5. I think he might’ve felt bad knowing he was clearly the best out of his friend group, and was the only one who could feasibly be pro. Hence why he was so adamant about just doing it for fun. He didn’t wanna admit that being sponsored was even possible.
    Edit: also I think they just wanted to express skating culture’s aversion to being mainstream. Although idk how much that applies to rollerblading compared to skateboarding.

    Brinks family didnt "desperately" need the money. Thats just what brink interpreted based on eavesdropping one fragment of a conversation . So your wrong on a lot of takes for that. The Mother worked real estate and the dad had a job in waiting with alot of experience.
