  • Critical elderly parents can be difficult to clean for. In today's #AskaHouseCleaner Angela Brown, The House Cleaning Guru, talks about cleaning for family.
If you have critical elderly parents, do a walkthrough. Establish boundaries and a daily cleaning routine. Cleaning for seniors takes special care because the cleaning of years past is not as easy for them.

I work with the elderly and have for many years, and you are right about everything you said. Yes they may be getting older but they still must retain dignity and respect.

Very insightful, Angela. You are right on the money here. Older people are often in a lot more pain than they say or anyone realizes and this impacts how much they can clean and also can affect mood. If you've always kept a tidy, comfortable home, it can be so disheartening when you can no longer reach all the places and you really do not want to ask for help. You just struggle. You may not be able to afford a cleaner to help. I will say that I've learned some great cleaning tips on your channel and I'm doing much better now and it feels so good to have a really clean home again and not be embarrassed if someone comes over. In this case, it may be that the parents don't really want the daughter cleaning outside of her own room and space. She should have a chat with them and let them know she's available and very willing to help with the house cleaning, and only what they want, and then she has to accept their wishes.

Hepa filter the snot out of your space. Swing rags soaked in vinegar to help with smoke smell change and clean the a.c. filter and get maintainance people to service unit and clean it. Introduce a hepa filter to their space if you can to help with allergies and smoke smell. Clean what is obviously dirty ask permission to change or put things away. My husband would live in a dirt pit if I didn't fuss at home to help me as he hates change and is happy letting me do it all. Never once had he said in going to do this today for you. Retired and reclined 😤
Good luck and hope things improve for you.👍

All that unending energy basically stops for us at age 62 1/2. What a let down it is too. You still want the house perfectly clean, but if you work 40 hour week it is almost impossible for us to keep a house clean.

Mom tells the story of visiting my grandmother and mentioning that she never wants to get old because old people are grumpy. My grandmother told her that those old and grumpy people were grumpy young people! Her statement has mostly held up 50 years later!

It's true, some people are always grumpy - what's up with that? Old people, I understand, but young grumpy people, come on. 😜
