    I am “built like that”. I’m 28 and have always struggled with being “built like that”. We are constantly shamed for not being curvy enough to look appealing. We struggle to find clothing especially where our butts just can’t seem to fill the pockets and blouses that won’t button. I could be standing next to someone else with the same exact weight, or more, but if their body is hourglass/pear shaped, they won’t receive the same judgement.
    Since middle school, I’ve been called things like , “bad bodied, line backer, sponge bob, booty-do, etc. I have heard comments like “Why she built like that?!” And “She looks pregnant”...All while simply just existing.
    At a young age, you don’t know when something is “wrong” about you, until someone else says something.
    Sometimes I imagine how free I would’ve been if people didn’t open their mouths for a moment just to make me feel like shit.

      This breaks my heart reading this. We have a long way to go as a society with accepting people, especially women, that don't fit the "ideal" mold. There's still so much pressure on women to look perfect and desirable that even those with a body like a model still aren't happy with themselves. I'd go as far to say that every woman has felt some sort of insecurity about their body at some point in their life. This ad is a blessing, its a glimmer of hope that we're heading in the right direction. Stay strong my dear, we'll get there eventually but in the meantime know that you're still beautiful and middle fingers up to the people that disagree 🖕🏻🖕🏻

      Exactly. Not all plus size women are plus size in their butt or boobs. Some have small boobs but a bigger belly. Some have thick thighs and a flat booty. I’m very small up top but I have 41 inch hips and a 27 inch waist and 24 inch thighs. Looks and sounds weird. I’ve given up on finding jeans. I wear leggings or loungewear. The craziest thing is when women do it to each other. It's gross. We always hear "you should put a real + sized women in ads", "big is beautiful too", "we come in all shape and sizes & we're all beautiful". Instead they're body shaming the model because her body is a different plus size to their's or maybe it's just self hatred, regardless it's all BS. I think the model rocks the jeans, I get the idea of how it'd look and in glad we've gotten to a place where at least some retailers are hearing the +sizes and making accommodations; because we all know that simply making a garment bigger does nothing. It has to be tailored to fit as nicely as it would for a standard sized garment which takes extra work. It's like how a lot of + size clothes would have fit issues because for some reason +S means "wide & short" in so many designs and garments. So to find a place making those important tweaks to the pattern to make it a nice garment that doesn't scream "I was meant to be a standard size but we added extra fabric and hoped for the best". I hope this model hasn't seen any of the comments/posts of these toxic individuals.

    bruh, that ad is literally so refreshing to me. it’s just realistic. usually the plus size models i see still have flat tummies, little waists, wide hips, and maybe a little bit of chub if the brand is feeling up to it. they basically use the more “idealistic” version of being plus sized, but it makes you feel a certain way when you STILL don’t look like that. either way, dorito shaped or not, every body is still a snack 🤷‍♀️

In one breath “women empowerment, saggy boobs matter, body positivity” and in the next breath “we do not want to see anyone that does not look like a Beyoncé or a Kardashian”. I have PCOS (Poly-Cystic Ovarian Syndrome), a hormone disorder that causes me to have a body shape similar to the model. The hormone imbalance with testosterone causes a lot of women with the disorder to collect the majority of our weight around our waistlines. I have lost over 100 lbs and am now a size 12/14, but my body still looks pretty similar to the model's. If it were down to dieting and the way I eat, then of course I would not look like this, but I have a disorder and that's just how my body distributes weight. I'm tired of being judged over it, people will stare at your stomach or judge you for having a small butt like you have any control over it. I am learning to love myself and be grateful for a body that has been through so much and allows me to breathe, move, and live the life I want. I appreciate when anyone puts a spotlight on apple-shaped women, we are often left out of the plus size visibility movement because we aren't the "right" kind of fat

Those same people were yelling for them to not be wearing the clothes. So what are they to wear then? I am sick of people fat shaming and skinny shaming. We are different in our own ways and it needs to be accepted. If you don't like the way I look, please don't look at me and keep it to yourself.

    I've noticed that even on plus size websites, they're not just picking any old big girl. They're picking models of a certain shape. You still have to have what's considered a "desirable" shape even for a plus size model. I respect that they are representing different plus size shapes.

      I absolutely agree. And what’s so funny about that is I can remember a time when the ‘thick thighs, big booty’ look wasn’t even considered “desirable” by mainstream media. In the late 90s/early 2000s if you were built like that you’d be considered fat and folks would say you had a “ghetto booty”. The goalposts are constantly moving and people are never going to have ‘perfect’ bodies. If Torrid wants to be inclusive to all bodies, then good for them.

But sometimes it may take a video like this to make us see things differently. So I'm glad this has been brought to attention. Isn't everyone preaching about not body shaming and inclusiveness nowadays? Well, Torrid represented. How dare those ppl complain about this woman's body. Be for real, how many plus sized women have a flat stomach 🤨 Shoe, even some slimmer women have some kinda pooch or something. Ppl can really be ridiculous. I miss the days when ppl didn't complain about every little thing. Now, everything that hits the media, someone is offended, someone is mad, someone didn't like it, etc. It's all so draining and toxic. Imo, just stick to complaining about serious issues. Great job Torrid!👏🏾👏🏾 Keep representing real women.

It's funny that social media has now become the mirror image of what magazines have been reflecting for many years, and people bashed those magazines for doing the very same thing - demonstrating fantasies instead of reality.

    To me, it absolutely makes sense for the model to look realistic... however, we live in a society where people want to see and emulate perfection...even when they themselves are imperfect. They don't want the model to look like what they see in the mirror. They want the model to look like Beyonce so they can fool themselves into thinking they can look like Beyonce too... even though they may be built like a mini fridge. 🤷‍♀️

      @peachyvalentine3741 3 ปีที่แล้ว +56

      @@westworld237 there is a tendency to accept only plus sized women who fit the ratio of the hourglass figure. Plus sized models virtually all fit this one cookie cutter shape, and also miraculously have very little fat in their faces. They often do not look like the overwhelming majority of fat woman in America.

    • @user-lg6qr2bh9f
      @user-lg6qr2bh9f 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Nah the majority of us that support the movement are not the ones that are against this. It's the fat phobic individuals and the fake body positive individuals that don't understand that fat ppl should be accepted, they're human and all their shapes are valid even though they aren't skinny. While its a tendency for society to only want to see women with pear and hourglass shaped bodies people that truly support body positivity disagree with that mentality.
