      Luckily I don't have a very bad back ( pre-pandemic). However, I hate being too hot or too cold. Working air conditioning and heating are a must. Post pandemic I have vertebrae that lock if I sit uncomfortably for too long so, I pre-book all my long-haul seats for extra room. Walking and swimming make my spine unlock. the Bed doesn't hurt it for some reason. Plus I always have a travel pillow with me.

    • @EricaBonnee
      @EricaBonnee 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      @@CeeCeeOnIt87 A ghost card is a virtual credit card. This isn’t always a good idea. Especially if a deposit is due. Also, some hotels will try to authorize $1 on the credit cards provided to ensure they have a valid form of payment. If the credit card isn’t good you risk the reservation being cancelled. I recommend using a credit card versus a debit card. The hotel’s system will authorize the card at check in for about $50 a day over the cost of the room. If a debit card is used, those funds will be deducted from your available balance.

    The hotel has to be booked first. I go on vacation to do nothing so I spend most of my time in my room. I look at the hotel’s page, the Google reviews, and Expedia reviews too. I’ve never been jipped by a hotel because I research thoroughly but I have been jipped by a family member with pest control problems.

      Yessss! Research is key! I stay in my room most of the time too. It's too risky to do a drive by hotel reservation. I book and then call to confirm. Im tryna have a relaxed stay and I don't want no problems.

    • @marleyhill34
      @marleyhill34 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Nah for me the flight needs to be booked first, especially long haul. Sitting in an uncomfortable seat for over 4 hours will mess up your spine too! Lol! Most of the time, if I'm not staying with family or friends when I book the flight, I book the hotel at the same time. Now before I pick the hotel, I got to see the map in relation to everything else. If I'm going on a beach holiday, I go to google maps see how far away the beach is and what colour the water ( must be blue) and the sand ( must be white or golden) show up as on the satellite. Lol! Then I check, the facilities of the hotel ( better have airconditioning and extra heating), the properties next door,( building sites are horrible), Tripadvisor and Google Reviews. Expedia is paid by the hotel to advertise....not a true review. That said I went to a 5-star private reserve with a french chef in Madagascar and one review complained the pool was too small ( literally 10 private 2-person beaches with white sand within walking distance) and another said that the menu was too small and the alcohol was too expensive. The reason the alcohol was so expensive was that If you get drunk and have a severe accident, the nearest hospital is a 30-minute 4 x4 drive truck ride AND a 1 hour and 45-minute flight to land at the hotel runway to pick you up AND a 1 hour and 45-minute flight back to the capital of Madagascar and then however long it takes from the airport to the only trauma hospital in the country. On the way back from Madagascar to France, there was a lady in a full hospital bed on the flight with two doctors attending. It was a 10-hour flight. Always remember you are a guest and you are not in your home environment, don't push the boundaries and stay safe.

      The room looked so bad that we went to Walmart to buy blankets to lay on top of the comforters. 😩 We didn’t even trust the bathroom so we showered when we got home. Luckily, that was an one-night only situation. I don’t take the blame because my sister booked that one. Lol. In another instance, I booked the room. The hotel was just dingy. The elevator, the carpets, the tv… 😩 They did move us to a slightly less dingy room, because the first room was blazing hot.
      Now I don’t stay anywhere without scouring every review I can find. If someone else books a room with bad reviews, I’m backing out. Can’t do it! 🙅🏾‍♀️ Lol

      I would consider myself cheap except when it comes to feeling too cold and feeling too hot and sitting on a plane for 5 or more hours. Now If I'm on a plane for 2 hours. That's a little car ride. But if I'm going to be on a plane for 8 hours I'm paying for extra leg room, bags in the hold and priority boarding and they best feed me. My Moma is even extra...she even refuses to walk in the damned airport but I give her a pass since she was 69 but she expected to just turn up at the airport and they would give her everything. I said Moma no you got to let them know they are going to have a senior citizen and pay for everything upfront. Meanwhile, I'm the one walking fast pulling my carry on trying to keep up while these old ladies and my mom ( she doesn't think she is old unless there are perks) cruising along in the indoor golf buggy. Lol! At least they let me go through the buggy passport control with them because these old people can't stand long in those immigration, passport control and customs lines! As a former front desk agent (EJ voice "cuz I got fired"), it always baffled me when people would try and walk in to stay multiple nights and then get mad at us for the rates or availability or whatever. I tried my best to help, even finding better hotels for them, but it was always annoying to have to explain how a hotel works. Just because you're here now and want the room doesn't mean that overrides the upcoming reservations. At the same time, if you're already staying and want to extend, you can't if someone already booked your room. It doesn't work like that. Hotels have a finite number of rooms, we can't sell what we don't have. **Tip: if you really want to stay somewhere that is booked, tell them to call you if there is a cancel. No guarantees but hotels want to sell out if it's possible

      Omg...your Poppa is wrong fuh that. lol! That sounds like something my cheapskate dad would do........Good thing we don't travel with him. My mother has become very high price and Luxurious in her old age......Always taking me to expensive restaurants (she pays or makes my Dad pay. I order cheap wine and a salad. My sister orders water and a salad. Lol!) and demanding extra comfort seats and extra leg room and "wheelchair" assistance in planes and airports. This lady is 5' 2 slim, healthy and she can walk unassisted. She doesn't need it but she's taking all the "age 72" old lady perks she can. Literally nearly everyone normal feels too guilty to argue with a little old lady. Nearly....my sister has zero tolerance for my mother's antics. lol!

Then we went to the hotel my in laws booked and it was like a breath of fresh air. It was beautiful, and to think where we had to go back to was upsetting! We had waffles and cereal, they had grits, eggs, toast and sausage. I really learned a lesson and always check reviews!

The rest of the people were satisfied with the hotel, so I booked. Well let me tell you the complainers was 100% on point! The place was low standards even though it was less expensive than some of the other ones in the area! I learned that you get what you pay for! Since that terrible experience I make it my business to check the pictures that the customers take (not the hotels deceiving pictures) & read all the reviews! When the customers are very specific with details & others also chime in with similar issues I refuse to book! I definitely will not book a motel or any place that ends with the word “INN”! It have to be a top notch reputable hotel with a pool & breakfast! That’s the requirement my kids expect when we go on vacation ! 😅😂

    We don't play ourselves, but sometimes we got played. Went to a hotel that was under construction. Didn't say that online, showed beautiful lobby, rooms etc. Our last stay at Hilton was trash. We had no maid service, get our own towels, had to get tv switched out. They're blaming it on not having enough workers. I'm done with Hilton for life.

    • @marleyhill34

      Wow. I've always had good times at the Hilton but internationally not in the USA. TV doesn't bother me. I'm a reader. I've been to hotels with no TV and been happy. I'm a hot shower, clean and clean bed kind of person. I grew up in the Caribbean so I'm slightly eco-conscious so I have no problem re-using my clean towels and sheets....like I do at home. They do not have to change them every day. Oh, and it has to have working air conditioning and heating. I hate being too cold all my life and now with the perimenopause, I'm not staying anywhere too hot! It's a damned health risk from heat stroke!! Good thing my spine is still working good enough but I'm avoiding the sleeping bag in a tent situation. lol! I always have a travel pillow so if the hotel pillow is acting up I use my own pillow. We have to do these things as we get old. Some people bring their own sheets.

    I'm with you! Luxury only for hotels. I'm thankful that my house is very comfortable so the hotel has to match or be better 😄 I let my Mom pick the hotel for a family vacation..I knew it was going to be problem as soon as we pulled up, we looked in the room and was able to cancel and book a really nice airbnb. Lesson learned, my Mom isn't able to choose the accommodations going forward 😄

    💯%facts but EJs absolutely hilarious 😂. Some military friends of mine do the neatest thing when traveling. They sleep in a military hotel the first part of their vacay then splurge on a luxury hotel the last part of their vacay.

    I work in a hotel and I KNEW EXACTLY where she was going when she said that they didn’t pre-book the room and she is right…..you better book your room because there may not be rooms! I can only IMAGINE how upset Fred was….actually, I’ve seen guests this pissed because they didn’t pre-book and my sarcastic ass was the one to look at them crazy and POLITELY talk shit to them! 🤣

    I hope you didn’t bring bedbugs and roaches from the flea bag hotel to the nice hotel.
    I’m with you. If the hotel isn’t nicer than home, I don’t want to stay there. I was never so happy to see a “white bread” American chain hotel as when I had to stay near the international airport the night before leaving a Central American trip. Covered with mosquito bites, sick of mud, humidity, and corruption, I felt like I arrived in heaven. Central a/c, down duvet, plenty of fluffy white towels, sofa, no mildew odor . . . relief!

    Amen 🙌🏻 we’re slow learners so this has happened to us a couple times, but after spending way too long looking for a hotel with 2 year old twins in tow we ended up paying way too much $$$ to be stepping over vomit on our way out the next morning! From that day on, my only priority is knowing where I’m going to sleep! I don’t even care if it’s a campground, ‘cause I’ll bring my cot! I just need to KNOW where I’m laying my head.

    The very 1st time I drove to FL I chose cheap over comfort. The 1st hotel room on my way down had a carpet that smelled like sour feet and the 2nd hotel on my way back had what seemed like a homeless community living there. The next time I drove down I chose differently. Always book ahead of time.

    I made this mistake on a spontaneous trip with my husband. It took almost 3 hours trying to find a hotel because EVERYTHING WAS BOOKED! I was not going to stay in a hole-in-the-wall motel.
    I stayed at a hotel one time that looked like it was straight out of an episode of intervention. There was a lot of movement outside all night, the fridge didn't work, and the smoke detectors were gone. The carpet was so dirty my socks were turning black, I slept in my clothes praying that this would NEVER happen again. My husband was like Fred, lol, I could see the smoke from his ears. He said, "what did the picture look like when you booked this place?" I said, "I think it might have been from when they first built it, or it was photoshopped."

    We learned this lesson this year too! 😂 We went out of town last minute because we were showing our house all weekend. The hotel we tried to get was full but they offered another one that was a bit cheaper and we were already on the road there and it was late so we grabbed it without looking it up. The lobby was good, but when we got to the room….We could touch the ceiling too. 😂 We agreed that we would not do that again. But we had the most magical time together as a family. Just outside the hotel.

    Ms. EJ this right here was some good marriage counseling. 👏👏 You showed us how to manage a potentially dangerous situation, this cudda blown up and tanked the whole vacay (and spilled into the next weeks). You masterfully demonstrated how to keep things from blowing up...you kept your mouth SHUT🤐! You didn't complain about the heat, nor the low ceilings, nor the indoor portable potty..you knew that man was pissed and you did not add to the fire 🔥 shut up in his belly... Thank you for your sharing such a great wealth of wisdom with us on today🤗

    I learned my lesson about staying in low-end hotels after experiencing a huge ball of hair floating out of the shower drain. The thought of an accumulation of someone's head/facial hair, pubic hair and other body hair floating around my feet in a layer of soap scum had me gagging and dry heaving 🤢🤮 Nope. NEVER again!

    Hotels DO matter a whole lot!! I recently went on a road trip and couldn’t book hotels ahead of time because we weren’t sure we would be able to drive that much in some days, and let me tell you, I was sufferinggg because I was scared of the very same thing happening to us. And we had a cat with us, so that added a lot of stress to this

    Have stayed in a Motel 6 and thought for sure someone died previously in the room while my husband slept with one eye open. Slept in the car at a rest stop. Decades ago slept on the floor of the airport in New Orleans. I HAVE DONE MY TIME! We went to Disney, stayed at one of the park hotels and thank you sweet baby Jesus we did because I ended up with a tooth infection and a swollen face so we stayed the whole day in bed. COMFORTABLY! I’m with you EJ.
