- Day 8 walking Scotland's West Highland Way trail from Kinlochleven to Glen Nevis Caravan & Camping Park at the foot of Ben Nevis.
It's a rainy morning at MacDonald Hotel & Cabins in Kinlochleven. I have a Scottish breakfast in the hotel restaurant, then pack up my wet tent and hit the trail.
There's a big climb to start the morning, but the sun peeks out every now and again. The weather changes from rain to sun to rain again.
Near the end of the this section, I say goodbye to my trail friends. One is finishing today and the other is staying somewhere else. Shortly before we part company, a rainbow stretches across the sky.
I arrive at Glen Nevis and set up my very wet tent while it is raining once again. The campground has wonderful facilities. There's a laundry room with washers, dryers, and even irons. There are plenty of showers and they are bright and clean.
I put my clothes in a washer and took a shower. When I was done, the sun had come out and it was windy. I aired out my tent and my boots and dried my sleeping bag, too. Plus I put my clothes in the dryer and everything was fresh and clean.
It was a great way to end the day and set me up to end strong as I was only a few miles away from the end of the West Highland Way in Fort William.

I'm an American and a solo woman hiker who walked the West Highland Way from Milngavie to Fort William. This is a beautiful trail, and safe to do for solo hikers. It was much more 'civilized' than I'm accustomed to on my hiking and backpacking trips! This was my first trip to Scotland.
Locations: Kinlochleven, MacDonald Hotel and Cabins, Glen Nevis Caravan and Camping Park, Scotland
Things you need:
Guidebook: amzn.to/3rBZCeo (The maps in the book are GREAT!)
Map: amzn.to/3MduTOe (The trail is well marked but a 'real' map is great for planning and checking distances)

Great content Donna. When you have done a fantastic journey as you have there is no need to apologise for the state of your kit. you celebrate the the event and then do the washing as with all the other life defining events in an worthwhile life. 🤣🤣

Glad you enjoyed it!
Absolutely breathtaking scenery my friend, gorgeous adventure! Your shots here are beyond incredible!
Great to see you did it the hard way,(backpacking). We did the WHW last year with our 2 Jack Russell dogs and the GGW the year before. Brings back great memories. Definitely recommend it to anyone. Scotland's a beautiful place. Gary
I didn't really do it the hard way - I 'cheated' a bit with baggage delivery. Made it much easier for me! But yes, a really beautiful place!
