Ideally by the end of this decade (knock on wood…) CA High Speed Rail will finish from Bakersfield to Merced, and they should hopefully link up to this electrified corridor one day, right?
Cool looking train set, I know they would be to tall to pass here in NYC, even though it wouldn't be any reason it to travel all the way from California to NYC, I wish I could see them in person
Well this is the bi-level Stadler Kiss, but it does have a single-level brother, the Stadler Flirt! So it’s technically possible that you’ll see one of these around those parts some day!
a simple and inexpensive method to measure the minimum distances as long as electrification is still being worked on and only a small part can theoretically be run with electricity, the time is now used with such tests and a diesel locomotive is used for the movement. The first electric runs will also be made with two old locomotives that were bought second-hand especially for this purpose. Only when these are also successful will the new trains run independently everywhere for the final tests.
I am still wondering about Stadler numbering convention!? lol 307, 3071, 3072, 3073, 3075, 3076, 308. like why they skip 3074? is there a option to add up to 3 more cars?
Basically the F40PH was one of the later series of F40s on caltrain’s roster, an F40PH3C, which were probably built in 1998 (i think), and numbers 920-922 have electric ditch lights
Did they change the door design? Since when were the high level doors single doors. In all the other photos, the high level doors were identical to the low floor.

There’s actually more complete sections already further north. Check out a recent cab ride video! They’re very close to being done installing all the catenary!
Ugh, not the gallery cars. I hate those stinkers with an unreasonable passion. Can’t it be the much nicer and more civilized Bombardier bi-level cars? Pretty please! I always feel like I’m being transported to a gulag to be summarily shot in the gallery cars! Such an unnecessarily bad design!
@@christiandambrosio8363 If memory serves, those F40s got a bunch of refreshes pretty recently. I say that those need to be kept away from the scrapyard at all costs! Caltrain needs to find another budding commuter railroad to take over their commuter-train era equipment. Or expand Gilroy service to what the Peninsula service was/is before electrification! But I don’t think that that conversation with the host freight railroad is actually going to go our way on this.
Give us a break! It’s our first normal modern train in 70+ years! 😁 But yes, it’s both a little pathetic and strangely gratifying that we’re finally getting these.
@@barryw9473 Well, I guess we are moving in the right direction in the Bay Area. What with Caltrain finally reaching the 21st century (and with style!), BART getting modern new trains, Muni getting new trains, and even the San Joaquins getting new trains. I guess now we just need to upgrade the ACE and the Capitol Corridor and we're set! Oh and VAT light rail too!😀

When is the opening in EMU service scheduled? Ending 2022?
@@Lodai974 Still a lot of electrification to complete. First passenger runs are scheduled for 2024.
Spectacular video! Great catch!

What's that weird creaking sound from the passenger cars? I've also heard it on other videos showing these new Caltrain cars. 🤔
Yeah, I’m not sure what that could be ro pro
It looks awesome, Though I wish they still kept the diesel sets, since they are gonna be sold off, they were awesome though
I know right and they should keep them Quandale
Hopefully a baby bullet set or two as well as the f40/gallery set will be donated

I hope they energize the wires soon!
Yeah, I hope so too JoeyLovesTrains
Tamien to Santa Clara is scheduled to be energized this fall and a train set will test. Keep your eyes peeled!
I did hear about 8/15/23 that the lines are energized and they are testing trains at night when the regular trains aren't running. Finally!
Im excited 👍✌

Wait a minute in 2:05 why the F40PH has a Electric Headlight/ditchlights or it was Replaced by a Electric one?
So, the reason for the LED ditchlights is to most likely improve visibility Kiel Tigs

finally the US is getting real trains (jk, although is cool seeing American railways using European trainsets)
Yeah that’s true unaizilla
the US has trains with higher speed than this tho
I wonder what the noises are that the train makes while passing? Never heard something like that with Zurichs Stadler trains.
Yeah, I wasn’t sure what it was either Plaeoprate
It's the new wheels that squeak. They "form" when they wear out for the first time, especially at low speeds.
Luckyyyyyyy!!!!!
Thank you The Austin Lee YT Channel / TALYTC 🇺🇦!
It's about time to see American passenger trains without that clanging diesel locomotive attached to one end
Yeah Prof. Ballaby Pikkalbhattham
The locomotive doesn't seem to have the pantograph. Where do they get the energy from?
It does have the pantograph No Nicotine, it was just down out of view.
Nice
