  • After having experimented with many live food options I have found that the Vinegar Eel is by far the easiest one to do. In this video I take you through the step by step process of how to culture and how to harvest.

    I had a fun time making this video and I am always trying something new. Let me know your experience with live food cultures. And if you have ever been around that person that just will not stop making annoying sounds...well that can be me at times. I promise it is not intentional only my Tourette's Syndrome wanting to join the party (true thing, I have been diagnosed with it) Enjoy the video and thank you for watching!

    I like how you got a zoom on the vinegar eels, If you ever get the opportunity to look at them under a microscope you won't regret it, they are fascinating little creatures with some amazing anatomy. thanks for the video & keep up the good work.

    Vinegar eels don’t literally eat fresh apples; they eat “mother of vinegar,” the yeasts and bacteria that turn apple juice, wine, and so forth into vinegar. The apples are food for the “mother.”

    How to make vinder eels without a starter

    • @WeldonTanks
      @WeldonTanks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There is not a way that I know of.
      I have always found a starter culture. They had to have come from somewhere, that may be a deep google dive

    How would you go about selling these? can I sell them in a screw on bottle half full then close it when the buyer is picking it up?

    • @WeldonTanks
      @WeldonTanks  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have seen them sold in heat sealed bags, zip loc bags, bottles, etc.
      If it is a local sell just something simple for the buyer to transport them home in.

    i always thought you used 50/50 water apple cider vinegar. do you use straight apple cider vinegar?
    I have 4 bottles i havent touched for a while i should go check them and harvest a few :-)

    • @WeldonTanks

      I used straight vinegar and have had zero problems. Extremely prolific culture

    That bottle makes those eels look really fancy. Good stuff. I use vinegar eels, live baby brine, moina daphnia, hopefully peanut beatle larvae at some point. Haven't yet managed to contact anyone for some

      I got these eels from the top shelf. I do have a contact that has some peanut beetles and am working on getting some starter cultures. If we get that sorted out I will gladly send you some.

    I just started a vinegar eel culture not long ago but my favorite culture I have would be my white worms. I also keep walter worms, infusoria, rams Horn snails, and cherry shrimp. I keep pea puffers and bumblebee gobbies who really enjoy all of my larger cultures. I think BBS is the typical go to food for the hobby though, I hatch those too a few times a week.
