I've been using instant mashed potatoes to culture, going to try using rice crispy when I run out of the potato flakes. Also never knew about the yeast, will definitely have to put some in my cultures because they sure can stink, hopefully help with the smell some.
interesting facts about the use of yeast , i originally thought it was just a good food source for the worms. but thinking back my cultures do seem to not get as foul when i use yeast!
Yep. Use enough yeast and you can prevent premature souring as well as the discusting molds you can sometimes get. Methylparaben is another option and is almost always included in commercial fruitfly media mixes. I've tried it with worms in the past and have found the yeast to be better (and cheeper!).
Hello More, I honestly have no idea if rice flower would work. Perhaps some other cereal that is similar...Special K or something? Or perhaps puffed wheat even...I know it is not rice, but it should absorb water quickly. If you do try the rice flower, let me know how it works. I have a feeling the consistency may be off, but I've never tried it. It might work great!

Would rice flour work if the crispies are too costly here in holland?

It's sound funny, a video on "what cereal do worms prefer" I suppose I could buy a pack of those little boxes of mixed cereal and see.
We should look Kellog in as a sponsor!
So bananas are not necessary then?
Not in the least. I mock the worms while I eat bananas in front of them :)
first!!!!!!!!!!!!
