That string tip is KEY, I've looked at a dozen blog posts and like sure I can use tweezers to remove the filter floss, but the string just solves that whole issue.
I've been thinking about getting into culturing my own live food. I have never done it before, but I've only been keeping fish for about 3 years or so. This year I got a stock tank and have a pond outside.
Loved this. I use wide mouth mason jars to grow the culture them and use long neck beer bottles to harvest LOL. Either way wine bottles or beer bottles, we get to drink...
Hi, thanks for the video. For the harvest, you mentioned that the eels would migrate through the floss over the course of days. Yet earlier you mentioned filling the bottle to the shoulder for maximum oxygenation. How long does it take for the culture to become starved of oxygen when set up for harvest?
Your new name is Greg "BIG TIME" Jones. Because you don't do anything on a small scale. 😁 I chose to go the Micro worm route, both Vinegar Eels and Micro Worms have almost identical nutritional value so I don't think either one is a bad choice. I was worried about the temperature sensitivity of the Vinegar eels , my fish room is in my basement and it sometimes goes to the low 50's. In the end we are just building a bridge from egg to brine shrimp. In most cases the hardest part of the breeding journey.
@@NYGOLD fairy shrimp are smaller than bbs when they first hatch, the fat content is way worse and they are way more expensive to source, but i'm going to give it a try soon

An hour or two before harvest, top off the bottle, then come back, should work

Yeah I'll do a Microworm video soon, I'm not a huge fan of the smell, it would be nice if all fry could start on BBS, lol!
@@gregjonesonline We need to create a smaller brine shrimp.

Can someone send me a little culture to Hungary?
Why would you want to make those? Kombucha brewers loathe them.
