    Chris Ramsay, I do not know you, but you and Nelson have changed the way I will remember things, and I am grateful. I know this is a year too late, however. I used your way to memorize the major system at first, but in the end it was easier to stick Hitler inside a refrigerator, and check on him later, when he was so cold he could only mutter in broken german "STNMR LJKFP" Sten-mir logic-fp!
    No one was harmed in the making of this memory palace, except for Hitler.

    How to remember the digits 3421: EASY - think of your house with a bat flying and a giant apple growing from the floor but your in 1987 and its cold outside while the sun is out. Then do 10 pushups sleep for 36 hours wakeup and put your clothes on backwards, count to 8 and multiple it by the square root of a rat. and just like that... 3421. Bam.

  • @protocol6
    @protocol6 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The Feynman quote doesn't entirely apply in this case. The method seems to cross-index visual-spatial-auditory memory in a way that reinforces all three. Not everyone has all three and the capabilities of each vary dramatically from person to person. I, myself, have aphantasia; a complete lack of visual memory or visualization ability. I have a strong spatial memory but it seems to have less dynamic range or resolution than visual. I can remember the floorplan of a house and location of larger furniture but not the small items on shelves. There are some hierarchical associative tricks that can help like treating each shelf as a separate room/memory but the association is challenging. I can adapt this to some degree but so far I haven't figured a way to fully replace the self-reinforcing feature for a memory like mine as it's hard to hang an auditory mnemonic on a fuzzy black blob without the visual detail there to fill in.
    It's not odd for spatial to be low-res. Video compression and game engines take advantage of the fact that our visual intensity (brightness/b&w) resolution is highest followed by color then spatial geometry. The intensity map is enough to extrapolate and reconstruct much of the lost detail. Our brains use the same sort of tricks to reduce the required processing power and storage.

    • @NelsonDellis
      @NelsonDellis 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      While it is more difficult for people with aphantasia to do it in the way I describe in the video, I've actually worked with a few people with aphantasia and have gotten them to perform these methods to a high degree of efficiency. It took some time, but they have had great success. One of my students can memorize a deck of cards sub 2 minutes with this technique (albeit with some minor adjustments to help his aphantasia). Thanks for your comment though!

    These sort of things really do work. about 25 years ago when I was just a kid my Aunt got one of those memory helper casset course things. and they got you to remember 20 words, and to this day having not heard it for almost 25 years, I can still remember a good number of them. 1- tree. 2- light, 3- stool (it has 3 legs) 4- car, 5- glove, 6- gun, 7- Luck... etc. you make those connections by things that make sense, those few examples you can pretty much see right away why they have those numbers. need to remember a PIN, make a story, like "I fell of my stool and tore my glove on the light that is shaped like a tree. 3521.. I miss some numbers but things like 13 were bakery (bakers dozen), 16 was candy (sweet 16) 21 was cigarettes as that was how many were in a box (not a smoker so going of the info of these tapes) it works.

    haha I imagined Chris in with a SIM symbol on his head, wearing a NEON shirt, with a VR headset 😄 . Thanks so much for sharing such a great technique, I've always had trouble memorizing things, especially numbers, but I'm very good at visualizing things, I can make anything and anyone appear in front of me with my eyes open, so this technique is perfect!!

    I like creating planets, so the name of the planet would be the subject, the color or how harsh the environment on it would be the emotion of the memory, similarity the structure and what the planet is made of would depend on what I'm trying to save. At the center of the planet would be the memory I'm trying to keep, now what lies at the center also varies like if I'm trying to remember how much money i have left in the bank (if I checked it on say monday) I would place a tree with leaves representing the amount cash left. So when I wanna buy something I would burn "x" amount of leaves to equal the amount spent. Also this helps me not overspend as doing so would leave the tree bare and the planet dies. So yeah kinda honestly it's pretty fun making planets or stars as the universe is endless so gives me a feeling of not ever running out of room.

    What does it say about me when I'm writing down everything in a memo block.. That this is a technique I really need to explore! Many thanks!
    I bet this will make me think about this a whole lot and although I know that it isn't easy since it is now aimed on the English language and writing but I'm going to look if I can translate it to my language..
    And may I say that the cinematography was totally mindbubbling?! Wow!! 👌👌 Seriously!!

    These phonetic rules are based on Gregg shorthand, which I'm also learning! I can tell, because the phonetics are grouped together in the same way, and the "1" ls very nearly the shape of the "t" and "d" sound upstroke in shorthand.

    This seriously messes with my mind palace. In England we use dd-mm-yy for dates and so I have to un-remember the words and remember them in a different order for it to work. Also, I would prefer to use N for oNe and T for Two (two for tea ...) . I'm sure you won't mind that part as mind palaces are very individual spaces. Different to my previous technique and more flexible. Thanks for this. Will take a look at Nelson's channel now.

    I've used a similar method to memorize passwords for work for years now. I would memorize my bedroom with blank walls, and imagine hanging those metal letter and number wall hangings you can buy to spell out the passwords. I've got dozens of passwords hanging all over my mind palace. For numbers, I imagine strange containers like tea pots or skull shaped coffee mugs full of objects like gardenias or plastic bumblebees, so I'll have a tea pot with 9 gardenias, a skull mug with 13 plastic bumblebees, a thermos with 64 yellow pencils all in a tidy row on my desk. Now it's actually hard to forget 91364. You've got your zip codes and phone numbers down pat, now. Any number, really.
    Another easy way to memorize things is to have an imaginary dry erase board in your head, or even a chalk board or a computer monitor. You can write or draw anything you want on it and use it over and over again. You could do the same thing with an easel and a paint brush if you want to be fancy about it and make it more memorable, and then you can hang those creations on the walls of your mind palace. Paint or draw a number, word, sentence, address, or a picture and then hang it up in a memorable spot. Watch how good it is for memorizing those variables.
